Killer Matchmaking in A Nutshell

Step 1: Get a Swf in 90% of your lobbies.

Step 2: Get Gen Rushed for not playing Blight to apply enough pressure.

Step 3: get no pips for over 3 hours straight.

Step 4 : Queue for another fair mmr match. 😔

  • For most of the day, SBMM simply does not function. Just pretend it doesn’t exist because it effectively doesn’t - your matchmaking will be completely random. Most of the time there are too few killers for matchmaking to work without queues taking forever. BHVR has told us that SBMM will prioritize queue times over fair matchmaking.

So then what's the point of SBMM?

  • I gladly crash my game when the survivor team is some SWF who have some obvious crooked thing planned.

Like a map offering and two purple sticks, or 3 same map offerings. Crashing the game won't throw some lower MMR victim to the Wolves and send then back to queue.

Yeah, everyone is their own creator of their fun, but I got little empathy for bully squads that help thinning the already small killer population.

  • I once wanted to main him, but in the end I gravitated to other killers, especially Pyramid Head and Demo. I still enjoy the occasional Clown match, but it's always a coin toss if you will have a fun game or if the survivors will BM you all game for the audacity of playing a non-s-tier killer.

  • The problem really isn’t SBMM. The problem is that there aren’t enough killer players (BHVR will never give us the ratio of killer to survivor players, but the killer shortage is blatantly obvious with the survivor queue times). Survivors would have to wait far longer to get a killer that falls within their standard MMR range. To keep survivors from quitting the game due to long queue times, a survivor team will get paired with next available killer regardless of MMR. So you’re absolutely correct to ask “what’s the point of SBMM?”

If the devs would fix the balance issues that make playing killer miserable, the SBMM system would fix itself
