Suggesting Changes for the perk Sole Survivor
I feel that this is a perk that no one talks about because it's considered one of the worst perks based on how it's designed to work, and the useless aura-blockings that have the worst range until your final teammate dies. It's ironic because this perk comes from the same survivor who gave us decisive strike, and object of obsession. While the perk name fits the thematic theme of Halloween, Laurie herself, and the final girl trope, it doesn't fit well in a game like dbd where you need your teammates to be alive. So I've suggested three changes on how to change this perk to make it better, and bear with me cuz it's a long read, but at the same time not strong enough to be meta defining which is fine. Just so you guys know, I'm not saying that these changes are exactly what should be in the game but some ideas of how to change it, and if you feel any of these suggestions would be op, I'd like to hear your opinions on how to tweak them, or your own changes you would make to this perk.
Sole Survivor Changes: Idea #1
For one, I would still keep it the same where in order to gain tokens, your teammates must die (sacrificed, mori'd, or bleed out), but in return, you get much more benefits from these tokens. Second, this would still be an obsession based perk, meaning only the obsession will get all the benefits from this perk, whilst non obsessions will only get half the benefits.
Kinda like Object of Obsession, where the obsession can see the killer passively every 30 seconds, and in those 3 seconds they see the killer and the killer sees them. And finally, these benefits I'm suggesting will be kinda op, but it's only at the price of your teammates dying, and I'm aware it could promote selfish game play, but I just thought that these changes could help survivors as teammates die later in the game.
- Token 1: When your first teammate dies, the obsession will gain 100% noise reduction when injured and leave no pools of blood. Non-obsession will only get 100% noise reduction when injured.
- Token 2: When your second teammate dies, the obsession will no longer alert crows and will have their aura blocked from the killer up to 128 meters. Non-obsession will only no longer alert crows of their presence
- Token 3: When your final teammate dies, the obsession will not leave scratch marks for 20 seconds and all noise notifications and actions such as running, breathing, vaulting, and falling from heights will be silenced. the non-obsession will only have all noise notifications and actions silenced.
To clear things up, for token 2, when the Obsession has their aura blocked from the killer, then any aura reading perks the survivor has to read the killer's aura will be blocked too. Alert, OoO, Dark sense, etc. will no longer show the obsession with the killer's aura with these perks if they get a second token. And that includes the add-on for keys to see the killer's aura. Just to make it fair, cuz if the killer can't see your aura why should the obsession still see the killers? Sole survivor will also not surpass the killer perk whispers.
You will not gain sole survivor tokens if your teammates escape, But you can still gain them if your teammates DC. This change will not increase the survivor's chance of finding the hatch or seeing the hatch aura.
Sole Survivor Changes: Idea #2
Another idea I was inspired by is to keep Sole Survivor the same where it blocks aura readings but if your teammates get hooked instead of sacrificed. Kinda like a reverse distortion, But to add my own twist, what happens when your teammates still die in the end.
For every unique teammate other than yourself gets hooked, gain a token up to a maximum 3 that will block your aura from the killer at 40m/72m/128m. Getting hooked yourself or the next time you’re on hook will lose all of your tokens until your teammates get hooked again. You can gain back tokens while you’re on hook if another teammate gets hooked as well.
If any unique teammate dies (sacrificed, mori’d, or bleeds out on floor), each token you get from them is kept permanently until you die or escape. If a teammate Dc’s, you will automatically get a permament token from them.
Example: There’s you, Dwight, Meg, and Claudette
If Dwight is the first to die and you have all three stacks of Sole Survivor, the next time you are hooked, you will only lose two stacks and you’ll only have the 40m range.
If you have no stacks and Meg is the first one to die, then you gain the first token permanently like the current Sole Survivor.
If Claudette gets hooked and Meg gets hooked, you’ll gain two tokens from them, but if Claudette gets hooked again, you won’t gain another token because you already got one from her, unless you lost your first tokens from Meg and Claudette, you can gain them back after they get hooked.
If one of your teammates dies and you don’t have any Sole Survivor tokens or lose them, then you’ll gain them just like the current Sole Survivor.
(Any more questions you have about these changes I will answer them in the examples)
Notes:
- Sole Survivor will hide your aura on the ground
- Sole Survivor will only hide your aura readings from the killer at certain distance
- Sole Survivor is still an Obsession based perk, so it only increases your chances of being the obsession
- Sole Survivor will act like the old one where if you gain the tokens, it will light up and show you at what distance does your aura not reveal to the killer
Sole Survivor Changes: #3
Another common thing I see a lot is that Sole Survivor should increase action speeds on everything you do for each teammate that dies. Probably not a good thing if your teammates have to die in order to do things faster, but maybe it could help to pick up the slack from having to lose teammates.
For every teammate that dies, each token increases your Repairing, Healing, Sabotaging, Unhooking, Vaulting, Cleansing, Opening, and Unlocking by 6/ 9 /15%.
(I’ll be honest, I don’t know how the math would work, so someone will have to solve bhvr's math to what a total of three 15% would equal too)
Maximum of tokens is 3 as always.
Again, these are perk changing suggestions. I was inspired to make this after watching Otz's video ft. Cope on how they would change every killer/survivor perk. I hoped you enjoyed and sorry for the long list.
