SBMM

Either give up or stop trying to reach whatever unrealistic goal you have in mind. SBMM simply CANNOT work in a 4v1 game the way you are attempting to make it so. for example.

ace = eats wraith for breakfast (90%+win ratio)

jake = manages a moderate 70% escape ration from wraith games (70% win ratio)

Meg = “wait, this is a locker right? I’ll just hide all game” (50% win ratio)

dwight = this is my 5th game, hey I’ve seen this guy before he going invisible! (0% win ratio)

now say there are 4 wraiths in que. a high skilled 90%, a lower 70%, a mid 50% and a baby 0% on his 9the game trying.

the way it seems you have SBMM set up is that this team will face either 0% or 50% to keep it “fair” for those survivors but ruin the game for either of those killers.

Im not a coder or anything of the sort, but o would think a formula like this would be the most optimal.

survivor A has a scale of 1-10 for their skill against each killer over that players last 10 ,arches against that kill is public games. Each escape is +1, each death is -1. Repeat this process for survivor b-d. For the sake of this example the killer will be Trapper. Over the last 10 games here are these players stats against trapper.

A: W,W,L,W,W,W,L,L,W,L = 1 SKILL

B: W,W,W,W,W,W,L,W,L,W = 8 SKILL

C: L,L,L,L,W,W,L,L,W,L = -4 SKILL

D: W,W,L,L,W,L,W,L,L,W = 0 SKILL

SURVIVOR TOTAL SKILL AGAINST TRAPPER = 5

Now on killer side, if I account for their last 10 games as Trapper, that’s 40 points total.

1 kill = 1 point

1 escape = -1 point

suppose at the end of all those games this trapper has a score (someone they are this bad) of 7 kills.

open the point gate for games to a grace if 3 points left and right, and you know have a game.

All of that is just my idea on randoms, not swf teams. An swf team should have their own swf score and each killer should have their own swf score. Only teams with acceptable scores should be able to match their equal (with some grace left or right) killer.

doing this would actually make it a SBMM system without bias.

  • While I agree that SBMM should not be a thing, I think you have something wrong in your thought process.

The Survivors dont get a rating specific to Killers. So, you wont have Surivors who escape often against Wraith, but die often against Plague or vice-versa. The Survivors have a Rating, which is not affected by the Killer they are facing.

Otherwise there would be problems, e.g. good Wraith or Ghostface-players would go against multiple Spine Chills all the time, because those Survivors have a good Rating against Stealth Killers or good Spirits would always go against Iron Will-players, because those have a higher chance to escape a Spirit, etc.

Why do you act like you know it better? Why do you think that that is the formula? Another expert from the University of Life...

I think the mistake is trying to use results(kill ratio)/escape ratio as a way to determine how good/skillful the killer/survivor is. Its like trying to use the ending of a book to say how good the book was. Your missing a bunch of chapters to how you got to that ending.

Ideally, you need the system to be complicated enough that it captures the most important points of playing well on both sides, but not too complicated that it takes away the win. The emblem system/ranking system is too complicated, it has too many variables put into it such that killers or survivors can get draws/depips or wins when they're not suppose to getting it. I wonder if its because of emblems like benevolence that are based off killers play and emblems like gatekeeper for killer that cause those irregular scoring schemes to occur.

they need work on their ranking so it more accurately depicts skill instead of hiding ranks. they've been trying push this SBMM for like 2 years and its been unsuccessful.

Yes! Exactly. Win/Lose is such a simplistic way of matching people and honestly will do such a disservice to the whole game.

For Killers, they could get 8 Hooks, max out their chases, their deviousness, do amazing, but if the survivors escape, the killer 'lost'?

A Survivor could do 3 out of 5 gens personally, unhook multiple people, heal them, cleanse totems, but be caught and die as the gates are being powered, and that's a 'lost'?

The system should be based off of the average of accumulated points a person gets across every category.

They didn't say on what SBMM is based, so you are just guessing how it works.

They said that they tried it as simple kill / escape and it failed hard, so it is most likely not case here.

  • Thanks for the feedback guys. I just feel SBMM is too hard to pull off here. So many variables. Swf, solo, solo+swf’s, good overall killers who are god tier on nurse and trash on Mikey. As a killer, I’ve personally only been rolled once since SBMM. As a survivor it’s too easy. And hiding rank is just dumb.

It's not really dumb, it doesn't work because players just ask on rank, but I understand reason behind it. They wanted players to have feedback only based on how that match went.

God tier nurse and trash Mikey is kinda fixed by different ratings for each killer. How is it different in current system, when you have 1 rank? You got to red ranks with Nurse and then you need daily or something on weak killer, but you still have to deal with red-ranks. In this regard SBMM is better for killer.

I think there are stuff to be changed about this system, but it has good potencial.
