Why Open Handed fails and what it could be

Open Handed is a weak perk simply because it needs to be run in a combo with other perks. No other perk has that hard of a requirement (does literally nothing by itself). And its benefit would have to be extremely strong to justify. Right now the +16m just don’t have the omph it needs.

My idea for really cranking this perk up a notch is that Open Handed SHARES all your Aura reading with the rest of the team. Basically, if you can see something, everyone can see it.

It sounds crazy strong right? And it should be with the meta perk competition it has and the requirement to use two perk slots.

  • While not on hook (or some other similar condition)... Otherwise it is almost Kindred.

  • This!

On top of its current effects

The idea itself is good for a buff (and could use a restriction to like 16-32 meters), but it doesn't fix the problem you proposed yourself.

It doesn't do anything by itself.

And one thing that you could add to this would be reversed Bond. When within 12/16/20 meters other survivors see your aura. The meters are lower because of the 2nd effect which brings it up to Bond). And now with Bond and Open Handed survivors would see your aura and you would see their aura (at a limit of 36 meters).

It is stepping into Aftercare territory tho, so it would need something else to keep it unique...

I think the idea of a perk that showed your Aura to other Survivors within range for the entire game could be its own perk entirely.

  • Personally there is one buff I would like to see to open handed that would make it much more viable

since the perk affects all members of the survivor team from just 1 person using it I think the best change for it would be as follows

While equipped this perk is visible to all other survivors in the pregame lobby, you cannot switch off this perk when there are under 30 seconds remaining on the timer, or ready up for 5 seconds after switching off this perk (final 2 parts are to prevent trolling)

This buff would make it much more powerful as a perk and much stronger in solo queue

    How about:

    • While reading another Survivors Aura, your Aura is shown to them.
    • Increases your Aura Reading ranges by 8/12/16m

Nope, because it still wouldn't do anything on its own. As OP mentioned, this is the only perk in the game that functions this way and ought to be changed.

Perhaps it could show the intensity of charges remaining in fellow survivors items within a short range?
