One thing I miss about old Freddy from a survivor perspective.

Competent Freddy’s back then were rare, but when finding yourself actually up against a genuinely competent Freddy, it could actually be quite scary and panic inducing.

Suddenly hearing the lullaby, not being able to see him due to his (then) total invisibility, keeping a careful eye on the crows or grass to try and get an idea of exactly where he is.

“Where is he?”

”Has he already seen me?”

”Did he see me get in that locker?”

”Is he right on top of me?”

”Should I even bother hiding because he’s already staring at me?”

”What should I do?”

And then when he finally DID start putting you to sleep, and there was that 7 second transition time, if the Freddy was smart enough to not be just running in a straight line toward you like a buffoon, and was instead moving erratically or circling, it could induce total panic during that period of his intermittent visibility, and no red stain.

“Where did he go?”

”Is he behind me?”

”Did he go left? Or did he go right?”

You’re trying to track exactly which way he’s moving and where he’ll finally spear once the 7 seconds is up, but instead the next thing you know you’ve taken a hit from Freddy where you absolutely least expected him to appear, and completely messed your pants.

Current Freddy doesn’t have any of that. There’s no jump scare or panic about where he is or where he’s gone. It’s not as exciting anymore versing a Freddy.
