Is ds a necessity?
I see this being tossed around a lot with the ds nerfs. "The perk was a necessity to stop tunneling". But does ds bring anymore to the table than you could do by just general loop knowledge? Maybe its different for red and im speaking from my hours but i rarely ever run ds on the survivor end but play against it a lot (go figure). Old DS a survivor would be unhooked and kinda just allowed to do what they want for 60 seconds. Cleanse that annoying ruin totem,Unhook a teammate,Work on a gen,Ect. It was pretty much a handhold. New ds requires some forethought and guessing whether your safe or not. But for its general purpose of stopping tunneling ive had true tunnelers chase me for minutes at a time losing all their gens in the process. Did i have ds? No but i just knew how to loop and run tiles. I just personally don't like calling perks necessities since perks are supposed to help you but not be the reason you can do something. Im just wondering everyones consensus on whether it was really a necessity or not? Also kinda want an excuse to use this meme survivors used for undying that fits this discussion:

It still does stop tunnelling.
It is for when meg runs over with the killer following her and rips you off the hook without bt or anything.
Yeah im just mostly speaking for the people saying it shouldnt deactivate because a killer can bait you onto a gen or into healing. To get you to deactivate it prematurely. Which if your smart and plan accordingly like if you know the killer has nurses you might not pop that selfcare right away after being unhooked.
I've never used it. My staples are Borrowed Time, Iron Will, We're Going to Live Forever, and then I switch out the last one depending.
It stops killers to have the urge of tunnelling because “They might have ds” but for killers who want to tunnel it doesn’t really do much of anything
Some form of anti tunnel is necessary imo
Yeah for necessity for "just stopping tunneling" i find it better to just loop the killer for as long as possible. They waste that entire ds timer in the chase they just spent a whole minute getting no value. The amount of times ive run a tunneler without ds is...well most of my games i don't use the perk.
The real problem there was in my eyes when the meg was freshly unhooked and had but equipped.
Now neither she or the survivor she rescued were an option for the killer.
That and not instantly working on a totem or gen are what make she nerf healthy. Maybe the can give them healing back but only with a delay so they still have to find a save spot instead of just healing under the hook.
Yeah that’s true but if you are fighting against certain killers who can deal with looping easily like slinger or spirit not having DS can be a pain
The DS change is one of the best changes they've made to the game but there should be an anti tunneling mechanic put into the game without the need of perks imo. Having to bring an insurance perk that prevents the killer from just deleting you if they have no empathy is poor design.
Hook state should not progress to the next stage if you rehook the same survivor in x amount of time.
To be fair did tunnel spirits fear old ds?
Depends. Some did some didn’t but most of them did from my experience
Because it kinda reminds me of a game on dead dawg where a spirit had tunneled a person off hook they went down after like 10 seconds and dsd her then got downed like 10 seconds later. Then the same spirit tunneled me later and i kept running her from shack to a god pallet nearby and she lost her final 2 gens in that chase. Ds i guess doesn't cover for lack of skill *shrug* somehow we were both rank 1 though.
Rank means nothing tbh especially near a new reset
Only time I ever ran DS was for the Laurie Adept, outside that I have not used it. There's a dozen other perks I prefer to use before DS.
I would say others running DS could be helpful with the killer because some killers if they already ate a DS in the game they were a bit more wary about tunneling.
It did cause those that ran DS to make more unsafe unhooks because they just assume everyone runs DS. I'd say those unsafe unhooks contribute to quite a bit of the killer tunneling - why go after healthy survivor when the injured one is in your face and one hook closer to being out of the game. While there are a few killers that will be wary about DS most will just risk eating it if it means getting a survivor out of the game.
I do think the DS changes are good. Hopefully it will have my teammates in solo q play smarter instead of taunting killers so they can use their DS.
I don't use it.
I very rarely get tunneled so it's pretty much useless for me
"But does ds bring anymore to the table than you could do by just general loop knowledge?"
I wish it was that simple... What about when you get farmed by randoms?
Guess thats either my luck or rank that that doesnt happen to often and if it does they at least have borrowed.
I don't call it "getting farmed" if they run Borrowed.
As someone who never even used it anyway, no.
As a killer main who plays both sides, DS is necessary. Do you see how some killers play when there is no obsession in the match? Myself included lmao.
