There's no reason Killers shouldn't have an individual hook counter

There seems to be a belief by the devs that having this would encourage tunnelling and that keeping track of who is on what hook is part of the challenge as killer.

However, in my eyes, this argument falls flat as the current Hook Counters killers have can already do this when combined with the killer perk BBQ and Chilli—one of the most common killer perks in the game.

You see, BBQ keeps track of your unique hooks up to 4. The hook counter tracks the hook states up to 12 (3 for each survivor).

Now, one of the first lessons in killer 101 is that you should NOT hook every survivor to get 12 hooks. It takes too long. You focus on 2, and maybe a 3rd if the opportunity arises. Alright, I just hooked Jeff and have 2 stacks of BBQ, and the hook counter is 3 instead of 2. Better tunnel the Feng I hooked before.

See how easy this is to exploit? Just cross-reference the two and the killer already has a somewhat more inconvenient form of it. Again, BBQ is one of the most common perks in the game so it's not some niche perk that has a neat secondary meta-function.

Just let killers see who is on which hook. It doesn't add anything except mild annoyance. At the very least, it's worth testing to see if it actually would be an issue or if the concerns are misplaced.

  • Been discussing this for a while, the dev's comment of "the concern we have is this would encourage tunneling a bit too much" which seems completely illogical to me considering if a killer is going to tunnel they'll still do exactly what they do now and go back to the hook as soon as the survivor is unhooked and only chase them with no need for the counter.

So survivors are being given a separated hook widget to let them know when to take hits to prevent someone on death hook going down or to prevent them wasting time running to unhook if someone's on death hook.

But killers are being denied the same information with the excuse that it "would encourage tunneling" despite actual tunneling wouldn't be effected because a killer is going to tunnel they'll still do exactly what they do now and go back to the hook as soon as the survivor is unhooked and only chase them.

in that same conversation they state they don't see tunneling as an issue, they see it as a valid tactic.

this really begs the question why should a killer have to remember each survivors hook state but the survivors be given that information freely?
