DBD Has Hit A New Low

Wow... I honestly did not think that you guys could release an update even worse than A Binding of Kin.

After the backlash from the last chapter update, I thought BHVR had learned something based on all the feedback and the statement released. After leaving my own feedback (see below) I was left feeling reluctantly optimistic for what was to come, holding onto the hope that the devs had learned to take player feedback into consideration and not ignore us. Sadly, that wasn't the case.

This is a response to the following post with a few suggestions:

https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/211911/news-4-4-0-release-statement

As we're all aware of by now, Chapter 18, "A Binding of Kin" released to much discourse and negativity due to the abhorrent amount of bugs on release, non-functional perks, and an incomplete and broken killer. This has caused the developers' release schedule to be scrutinized more than ever before, with a lot more people pushing for a chapter that instead focuses on the health of the game itself as opposed to more new unpolished content.

And that is completely understandable. Players have reason to be disappointed and critical when unfinished content is being released, even more insulting when it's behind a paywall on top of the price of the game. Almost all of the released perks were not working as intended, one of them doing completely nothing at all. The killer was plagued (lol) with incredibly hindering bugs and issues since the PTB, very clear issues that should have been forseen before the PTB was even released, such as Victor being completely countered by lockers, the Incapacitated status effect not actually working at the exit gates, or Victor being able to be taken completely hostage by survivors, leaving the killers with no power-- an issue still present, although alleviated, in the live patch.

And so that leaves the players with the question "why should we even buy this?" Regardless of the complications that came with the creation of The Twins and their stable functionality, BHVR's release schedule for new content had already been identified long before Chapter 18's release as unsustainable, with the game's health being negatively afflicted by known issues such as moris, keys, unbalanced perks, and bad core mechanics for a while.

This release model is unsustainable for Dead by Daylight, and it'll bring the game down more and more until something is done about it. Players have been suggesting this for quite a while, but give more time to the PTB if something isn't right. Fix any issues with new content as soon as possible, instead of moving on to something new so that we get more and more unpolished content. And put the health of the game first. Take time off of making new chapters and focus on improving what we have now, because if BHVR continues on this path, the game will suffer and suffer, and eventually no matter how much new content is being put out, players will stop caring, because the base game is so... bad.

I want to see this game succeed-- many players, especially BHVR's biggest critics want to see this game succeed because it's so unique from a lot of games being released these days, the core concept is so interesting and fun, but if the game isn't playable, then no one will care.

Please, share this with the devs, and any of your own thoughts below. Please let this game get better.

This mid-chapter update is the worst DBD has felt in a long, long time. I'll try to quickly sum up my thoughts.

NEW UI

After BHVR intentionally ignored their players' feedback on the UI, thinking that they know better than us with the lame excuse that "console players didn't get to try" we got the awful new UI. Hi BHVR! It's me, a console player! Guess what? The new UI is even worse on console. Why do I need to turn my head to look at every corner of the screen for basic information that was all centralized in one spot last time? Nice red-on-red debuffs BTW, that isn't bas design at all. Oh yeah, why the 3D renders turned into 2D sprites? It's ugly. You'd think the new UI would at least be consistent but I guess not? Seriously...?

I'm not saying that the old UI was absolutely flawless, and the hook counter additions were pretty good, as well as having a way to identify each survivor, but it's literally an example of bad video game UI, and could've been executed much better.

NEW ANImations

I'm not too frustrated with these, and the new locomotion and animations are mostly fine, but they do definitely need some polishing. The head turning, standing, and moonwalking animations all look really awkward. While I like the idea of survivors standing straight up for once like normal people, it currently looks awkward, and the players have been saying this since we've seen it.

CLown Update

Mostly fine, but the new bottle isn't good, actually wasting more time than is being saved by switching and throwing a speed bottle, which survivors can also benefit from. Here's an idea I had:

Clown's changes definitely were not enough to make him more interesting or more powerful. His only notable change was the reload speed increase, as the Afterpiece Antidote is essentially useless. Here is what I'd do with Clown instead:

In addition to the Afterpiece Tonic, Clown will now have a new ability, named:

The Interlude Tonic:

The Clown carries a special bottle for himself, used to push himself to the limits.

Use the Active Ability command to activate The Interlude Tonic. Using The Interlude Tonic consumes 3 bottles of The Afterpiece Tonic and cannot be used if The Clown has less than 3 at the time.

The Interlude Tonic takes 3 seconds to activate, during which The Clown's movement speed is reduced by 50%.

After using The Interlude Tonic:

  • The Clown's movement speed is increased to 5.0 m/s for 20 seconds or The Clown damages a survivor
  • The Clown performs all actions 10% faster
  • The Clown cannot reload bottles until the effect of The Interlude Tonic wears off

After the effect ends, The Clown is fatigued for 5 seconds, reducing his movement speed by 25%.

The Interlude Tonic has a cooldown of 15 seconds.

These proposed changes keep "The Spirit" of the ideas presented in the PTB, while improving on them, making it much more useful for Clown players.

"Generous" Killer Hits

I honestly did not think the "latency" could get any worse, but here we are. I'll let the clips speak for themselves.

If your big name content creators are speaking out against you guys, like Monto, JRM, and even No0b3 then you know you've don't something wrong. :/

I am genuinely frustrated with the state this update was release in, and done with DBD until the devs get off their high horse and listen to their players.

Comments

  • I'm just sad, they ruined the movement. I couldn't give two damns about the UI or how the game looks, just don't remove jukes & 360s, it's literally what separates a casual survivor from an experienced one. I don't understand why they didn't remove it years ago, they set themselves up for this.
