Pretty simple decisive strike change

Okay so actually think about the implications of the perk change and tell me what you think :0 This is what the perk currently is:

"Using whatever is at hand, you stab at your aggressor in an ultimate attempt to escape.

After being unhooked or unhooking yourself, Decisive Strike will become active and usable for several seconds.

While Decisive Strike is active, when grabbed by the Killer, succeed a Skill Check to automatically escape the Killer's grasp and stun them for 5 seconds.

  • Succeeding or failing the Skill Check will disable Decisive Strike.
  • Successfully stunning the Killer will result in you becoming the Obsession.

Increases the odds of being the Obsession.

The Killer can only be obsessed with one Survivor at a time.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The important part of the perk description that we should look at is this:

"While Decisive Strike is active, when grabbed by the Killer, succeed a Skill Check to automatically escape the Killer's grasp and stun them for 5 seconds."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This in its current form is too oppressive to the killer. On average, it can be really hard for the killer to recover from a decisive strike. Especially if it's from a target they really need dead.

This is my proposed change

"While Decisive Strike is active, when grabbed by the Killer, succeed a Skill Check to automatically escape the Killer's grasp and stun them for 5 seconds if you are the obsession. If you are not the obsession, the killer will be stunned for 2.5 seconds.

  • Succeeding or failing the Skill Check will disable Decisive Strike.
  • Successfully stunning the Killer will result in you becoming the Obsession.
  • If you are already the obsession when stunning the killer, another survivor becomes the obsession at random.

Increases the odds of being the Obsession.

The Killer can only be obsessed with one Survivor at a time."

(I know this change does not take into consideration "perk tiers" but hopefully those are reformed soon anyways.)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This in my opinion, would add a whole new level of depth to the perk. Killer mains know that the 5 second stun is really sucky to deal with and the survivor is basically guaranteed to get away to another loop or something to waste more time. This is even worse if you get hit by multiple survivors throughout the game. The perk would be more lenient for killers if they ONLY GET STUNNED FOR 5 SECONDS IF ITS BY THE CURRENT OBSESSION. Otherwise, they only have to eat a 2.5 second stun which will still gives the survivor some time to evade the killer but it wont be as much of a detriment. Survivor teams would have to use perks that can turn them into the obsession if they really want the 5 second stun on the killer. But you would also have to take into consideration killer perks that also change who the obsession is.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As a survivor, you will still get a stun on a killer if they decide to "tunnel" you, but the length of that stun is determined by whether you're the obsession or not. This change makes the perk more fair in a lot of ways and lowers some of its overall power. In turn, I think the change would make more room for new perks to be used.

  • If you are not the obsession, the killer will be stunned for 2.5 seconds.

Your change makes the perk void. Around last September, DS was bugged on some killers and the stun was about that long. Take into consideration that the survivor is also locked in the falling animation at the beginning. Needless to say, that stun did literally nothing and survivors were re-downed immediately.

  • Im excited to hear what you guys think as well as any critiques. Im currently having fun thinking about all of the hypothetical perk interactions with the perk change. Furtive chase would be good at preventing a 5 second stun from happening. Because with that perk, if someone rescues the obsession from the hook, they become the obsesion. And if the person off the hook has decisive, but they are no longer the obsession, they only have a 2.5 second stun to work with. Its real interesting.

you're right there was that bug totally forgot. Maybe if they tweaked the whole falling animation with the perk it could be better. But I don't think it would be void. A stun is a stun. And time is time in DBD. Id take a 2.5 second stun on a killer opposed to getting picked up and taken straight to a hook without any chance to escape whatsoever. A Survivor who only has a 2.5 second stun to work with would have to be a lot more careful about their playstyle. It would eliminate a lot of those annoying instances where survivors will literally hop all in lockers and play very unsafe because they knew they had 5 seconds of time to work with if the killer picks them up. yk?

It's actually 1,5 seconds to escape.

While it removes the annoyances from killer side, it just becomes a really sad anti-tunneling perk (when not the obsession)

I think that it would still have use as an anti tunnel perk even if you're not the obsession. The major transgression with the perk that I see is that it almost always guarantees you escape the killer/ waste long amounts their time for your team every time you use it. It is also VERY common that I get hit with a decisive by a survivor I wasn't even intentionally tunneling. With the shortened stun as a non-obsession, you would have to think about positioning yourself in a beneficial place to go down. Like a pallet or window. The perk would lose some of its impact though as the game progresses just because pallets would be scarce probably. From a survivor standpoint it will be a flat nerf to the perk but the potential to be as powerful as it is currently is would save it from being absolutely useless. There are still many perks that dictate who the obsession is and those could also find a spot in the meta. But just for the record, I am not trying to choose sides. There are plenty of oppressive things that the Killers have at their utility as well.

  • Ds protection should work when the survivor is in a vulnerable position. We saw very clearly what happens with a shorter ds stun time.

If you're working on a gen, healed up or saving someone from the hook you're not in a vulnerable position and ds protection should be disabled.
