Idea for a Key nerf
For a while, a lot of people have requested the devs to nerf keys, especially since moris got nerfed a few weeks ago. I think I have a fairly good idea on how to make keys less frustrating to play against as killer, and even less frustrating to deal with as survivor when one of your teammates has one.
My idea is that, instead of nerfing keys themselves, tweeking the hatch mechanic could be an easy and viable way to proceed. What I suggest is, instead of how hatch currently works, where it spawns when the number of completed generators is equal to the number of players in the trial (including the killer), I would propose that, regardless of the amount of players in the trial, the hatch only spawns in 2 scenarios:
- If all 5 generators have been completed, and at least one exit gate has been fully opened.
- If only 1 survivor remains alive in the trial (as it works right now).
In addition to this, I suggest for the entity to permanently block the hatch once the killer has closed it, to prevent keys from being a problem during EGC if the killer found the hatch first, forcing the survivor(s) to leave through one of the exit gates.
The suggested changes would avoid a few frustrating situations for both sides:
- Because the hatch wouldn't spawn until all objectives have been completed, survivors wouldn't get frustrated at their teammates hiding around hatch, waiting for them to die, while they try to actually play as a team and finish generators (this is regardless of having a key in the match or not).
- Killers also wouldn't have to worry about 3 survivors escaping out of nowhere at 1 gen left, or 2 escaping at 2 gens left. That feels as if the killer was getting punished for getting early kills, which I think is rather unfair.
- Survivors also wouldn't get frustrated at their teammate(s) leaving them behind to die as he/she/they escape with the key with few gens left, or no progress on any of the exit gates, so in case the killer closes the hatch after opened with a key, the remaining survivors still have a fair shot at making it out through the open exit gates.
I have also heard the idea of giving survivors a short animation before opening the hatch with a key, but I don't think that's necessary if the conditions for the hatch itself spawning become significantly more strict, and I think this would be a possitive change for the game and would improve the fun on both sides in matches where keys are brought or found in a chest.
Feedback is welcome.

Something need to be done with the key.
I just been in a game. Killed 2 survicors. One had a key.
Becsuse it wad a swf lobby. They told them where key was. The 2 remaining survivors got the key. Went and looked for the hatch and both escaped.
It's not even fun to go up agsinst a key. Never mind in a swf lobby.
Key needs nerfing so it only allows the one user through the hatch.
Unless.
Your going for the trophy wherw 4 nreeds to escape when all 5 gens are done and hatch appears. This is the only time that the hatch should allow more that one playet thtough at one.
Or.
With the timer. It should be for every player alive it takes 60 seconds to open the hatch.
So it'd be
60, 120, 180, 210.
The keys should be rarities from grey to green and are used to open chests. A grey key will give you an item of grey rarity or yellow, a yellow key will give you an item rarity of yellow or green and a green key will give you a rarity of green or purple. You can not get another key. Plunderers instinct will now only show chests but at a further distance and ace in the hole will give you an item of yellow rarity or higher with add-ons. The hatch will still spawn at one gen but only at one gen. If you don't get to one gen it wont spawn. Only one can ever escape.
Easiest and fair way to change them :
Keep most of it as it is, hatch spawn at reamining surv +1 gens done, keep spawning when 1 surv remain, keep the key as it is (only red and purple can open it).
Only changes are :
