The Killer Meta Shuffle

"You put your right foot in, You take your right foot out"

Ahh, the Killer Meta Shuffle. For those not in the know, Killers have a problem, a big problem. Basically, when one playstyle or perk becomes dominant, instead of look at why it became dominant, they just nerf it and move on.

Take for example Undying. All Undying needed to do to make it balanced is for when it activates for the totem to start glowing a different color than the other totems. This means that if Undying is in play, you look for the totem that glows differently. This would make dealing with it a lot easier while keeping its power.

But that only hides the true issue at the heart of this matter, which is how inconsistent hex perks are. They are just never worth it, as it is too easy for a totem to be done in the first seconds of a game. Or survivors actually can't physically get to them and they stay up the whole game. RNG. That's cool.

The reason why killers are so annoyed about this is that Survivors have so many great perks and perk combos such as DS+UB, Borrowed Time, Kindred, Adrenaline, almost all of the exhaustion perks and so many more. Survival perks, even the new ones, are pretty good. Meanwhile, Killers have, especially recently, gotten terrible perks. I am looking at you, blood favor.

This combination of factors leads to the Killer Meta Shuffle, in which anytime killers get something nice or powerful it gets nerfed with nothing to replace it. Did Ruin+Undying need a nerf? Yes. But does that mean they can just nerf it and move on? No.

  • Undying didn't need #########. It was fine as is.

Obviously it was designed to do something.

It did it well, and got nerfed for doing so.

Sorry, but didn't the devs design the perk to do exactly what it was doing?

So is this a lack of awareness in the potential of a perk, or did they cave to appease survivors?

  • Basement bubba meta has always been

  • I don´t care too much about perk changes, as long as they don´t touch insidious... Perks are replacable. There will be new stuff you can come up with.

I guess the only real problem this game suffers from in terms of gameplay is the power of voice comm.

On the one hand you have killers asking for more powerful stuff to stand a chance against it. On the other hand you have solos that can´t deal with stronger killers.

As long as this problem never gets adressed there will be an endless circle of changes that never leads anywhere but frustration.

Maybe just stop playing to win, and start to have fun? Use meme builds and stop trying to sweat. This game is not balanced, and never will be.

And if you really want to win at all costs, become a good Nurse and you will be fine.

  • You do the hookie pookie and change your strat around.

I am of the opinion that a player should not have to choose between fun or victory. I actually prefer to run meme builds, but I am grinding out survivor perks right now so I have to use a build to get some blood points.

Survivors get to keep DS+UB+BT+DH and their precious keys cause they buy cosmetics

    That's what it's all about :P

  • Survivors are the power role, they've always been. The problem is that most of them are noobs that don't know how to split up, don't want to adapt, don't want challenge. They will moan on the forum asking for nerfs until they finally get it, because they are the cash cow of dbd.

"And that's what it is all about"

    "Nerf it again!"

No, in a well designed pvp game you should not have to chose between fun and victory. But this is not a "normal" pvp game.

Its not normal because they dont thread it as a classic pvp game. And its asymetrical .Classic pvp games evolve around directly competing against the other player. If you are quicker, have better aim, or better skill on the keyboard and so on you win against the other player. But here Survivors are competing against "generator time" and not" directly" against you. It´s 1vs4 and the main objective of the survivor side is NOT competing against you but doing a gen somewhere far away from you.

What should have been done in the case of DbD is increasing the skill ceiling of both sides,. Giving both sides more tings to become better at would have solven many things.

It is nothing more than a casual game, almost on the level of a mobile game. And thats something you have to accept.
