Are keys balanced?

Hey guys,

well the title already says it. Do you guys think keys are still or were ever balanced?

At least for me I got the feeling a lot more escapes via key are happening atm especially since u can now control where the hatch spawns in the match via offering. You can bring the counter offering as a killer yeah but those aren't that common so that you would be able to bring them every match. Some survivors I encountered ran builds centered around an escape via hatch which shortened the matches even more. Also I've seen Otz literary lose his plague streak to the same strat where they just did the gens they had to and then escaped via key

Should the devs look at this or do you guys say that keys are still fine?

Merry christmas everyone :3

Killers jobs are so easy all they have to do is run to the doors and protect them they don't have to worry about being seen and chased off

Here's a tutorial on how to play against the killer during the EGC, enjoy! 😁

Prologue: The EGC Concerns & Overview

The EGC is an event where the survivor is on a 2 minute clock to escape or die trying. While the timer is ticking, you will have to open one of the two Exit Gates or attempt to find the Hatch if you have a key that can open it.

In most circumstances, you will have to open the Exit Gates and escape, but it's easily said than done.

Most player think the EGC is a free sacrifice to the killer, but that's not always the case if you're somewhat lucky! To escape, follow these tactics in order to have the greatest chance of success! 😁

    Tactics

    Scouting: Exit Gate Spawns

As the Trial plays out, look at the Exit Gate spawns. This can help you plan ahead in the event your team fails to complete their objective.

    Rush Method:

Exit Gates spawned too close? Try opening the Exit Gate furthest from the killer to give yourself great chance to escape!

Keep in mind this is incredibly risky, but it's your only shot when the Exit Gates spawn too close!

This works because the killer has to walk from the hatch to one of the Exit Gates, and if the killer picks incorrectly, that's more than enough time to escape. 😁

    Stealth Method:

This one is quite complicated, but for starters, don't attempt the Rush Method if the Exit Gates are far apart from each other because the Stealth Method gives you a better chance to escape. πŸ‘Œ

1.) You want to position yourself just within 8 to 16 meters to the Exit Gate. Make sure you accomplish this before 50% of the EGC expires.

2.) When the killer leaves your Exit Gate, begin to open the Exit Gate but make sure you stop the progress meter when it's underneath the "E" in "Open Escape". Then go back to your hiding position and wait for the killer to repeat their patrol cycle. This prevents the Exit Gate from flashing a red warning light and giving away your position!

3.) Once the killer leaves your Exit Gate, begin to open the Exit Gate and attempt your escape! If the EGC timer is flashing before you started opening the Exit Gate, you wasted to much time, you're good as dead! πŸ˜•

If you done all of these steps correctly, you show have a high escape chance. Remember that your escape chance is dependent on your execution.

Here's a video on proper execution:

    EGC Balance

Counterplay doesn't mean it's balanced, the EGC is severely in the killer's favor. Don't get me wrong, the killer should have the advantage, but the survivors odds should never be impossible because at that point, why add the EGC? You minus well at that point just have the Enitity sacrifice you as soon as the killer closes the Hatch. πŸ˜•

Here's my suggestions to make the EGC more fair to the survivor:

    • Add more LoS blockers around the Exit Gates, this prevents killers from standing at a vantage point and keeping both Exit Gates under surveillance.
    • Have a maximum and minimum Exit Gate spawn distance that's dependent on the killer's mobility. Distance should be enough for the survivor to get the Exit Gate to around 75% if the killer leaves their Exit Gate then comes back.
    • Hatch should always spawn away from the Exit Gates to make both the Rush Method and Stealth Method viable.
    • Defensive killers that prevent the survivor from opening the Exit Gates without being detected shouldn't be allowed to place their traps near the Exit Gate switch. These killers are: Trapper and Demogorgon. The other defensive killers have enough counterplay to avoid getting detected by their traps.
    Epilogue: Final Thoughts

That's basically it for my EGC suggestions β€” just make it more fair to the survivor while the killer still has the advantage. Hopefully, you will agree with me and understand how to escape when the situation looks dire! πŸ˜πŸ€—

I don’t think keys are balanced but with how screwed hitboxes are atm and how much survivors are getting nerfed they feel like a necessary evil in order to even attempt to win a game as survivor

Yes, what's your point? You haven't really answered my questions? The killer beat you so why is it you feel like the game owes you an easier escape? Why shouldn't the killer be rewarded for playing well for example and make it harder for survivors to escape?

Because why should I suffer if I got stuck with a bunch of potatoes that AFK'd or decided to kill themselves on first hook and we all know killers just want that 4k so they just abuse this and kill you

Your teammates being terrible is a completely different thing that could be resolved without punishing the killer. Also what do you mean killers that abuse this?

  • And i never stated that i do. You stated the killer deserves it, ignoring all possibilitys that he might not.

  • They come in handy with tunnelling killers. Kill one player off too soon and we can escape via hatch. If the killer wants to play that way we can play this wayπŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

  • especially considering how many killers rely on snow ball. Some trappers will willingly give the one or even two free gens, uncontested in the name of setting up. Its just an unfair thing to have to account for.

There really should be some kind of key animation that can be denied, or something similar

So which is it, several gens or 1-2? Saying that keys are op is completely overstated. If 3 people are escaping via hatch then it means four gens were already done. Odds are you were going to lose anyways. If two people escape it means 3 were done and 2 people dead. That still falls short of β€œseveral”. The only way you can bypass several gens is by killing all except one and by then a key is unnecessary except reopening the hatch after the fact.

You fail to take into account the "3 gen" situation, where a setup killer such as hag or trapper loses a lot of ground in the early game but is formidable after they've secured a good 3 gen. Once you get a SINGLE kill, then the rest of them just find the hatch on the other side of the map and bounce.

The game is set up in such a way where it gets harder for survivors as time goes on but easier for killers because less gens means you can more easily predict where survivors will be. Giving the option to hatch at end game significantly neutors killers with set ups, or perk builds based on tokens or exit gates
