Even though technician was changed already it’s still not good enough it could use one more change here how my version is

the noises caused by your repairs and their hearing is reduced by 8 meters. On a failed repair skillcheck, the generator explosion will be prevented. Technician has a cooldown of 30/25/20 seconds.

this would make the perk so much better cause it’s not punishing anymore. Thoughts?

    Change it from 20/15/10 or 15/10/5 and it would be a decent perk for newbies, and bad survivors

    I agree. The perk was supposed to be a new-player friendly type perk, but others have pointed out, it's more punishing than helpful. Imagine a new player running this perk, and failing skill checks and you just watch that bar plummet back to 0. It's more like a killer perk the way it's designed right now.

    It's a perk that punishes you for bringing it. Something like Autodidact or No Mither. Its obvious that it should be changed.

    I would focus more on the gen-silencing part, but if we went with skillchecks, I would make it so that it does the opposite of what it does now - it would prevent the explosion AND lower the penalty. Then the perk will be at least worth considering for newer players.

    I really like the idea of having a cooldown on its effects that is triggered by failing skillchecks instead of the extra regression penalty. Definitely think a 15-20 second cooldown at max tier would be fair for this effect.

    • More skilled survivors could continue using Technician to reduce the range that gen repairs can be heard at.
    • Less skilled survivors would get a "grace skillcheck" that would have its explosion prevented, but would need to not fail additional skillchecks until the perk was active again (incentivizing them to get better, but helping to alleviate their mistakes to a reasonable degree). I'd probably have the range reduction deactivate while Technician is on cooldown too.

    Or make it with each skill check it reduces the noises produced by 8 meters until it can’t be heard at all for as long as you stay on the gen. At least by the person working on it with the perk. If someone is helping them that person will still produce noise.

    Essentially if you’re lucky enough to get enough skill checks to render noises silent and can remain on it without the killer noticing. Failing a skill check prevents notifications the first time and then has a cooldown.

    I’ve been messing around with it, mostly due to the terrible PS4 frame drops at the moment, and here are a few times it’s been great to have it equipped:

    • Those pesky times you need to let go of a gen and a skill check coincidentally pops up at exactly the same time.
    • The frame stutters I’ve mentioned.
    • Madness T2.

    Yeah the extra regression sucks, and it’s a big compromise, but i’d rather prevent giving away my position.
