Hexy tournament, pyramid head and spirit.

So I just wanna address the fact that people always wanna compare PH and spirits performance at the tournament to public play.

First PH got stomped because not only does his ability not involve gen regression, but these survivors are some of the best. Otz wrecks with PH almost every game on YouTube and yet he lost against people who are GUARANTEED 4 man and who have perks to win. And also spirit? Really?! Oh look at her she got gen rushed! Dude really? Of course she did, but what did she do majority of the time? WIN!! Nurse and spirit were the winners until one team was just too good.

Second let's adress the play styles, first most of the time survivors werent dumb enough to do the lose lose. Situation and even then to avoid that they always got hit and when they had a safe vault they made the right choices to avoid a hit through walls. As spirit people didnt mind game they never put themselves in a situation where they are in a lose lose and when they did, they lost. The only times the spirit messed up was when they assumed they'd hit a survivor and frankly a normal player under all that pressure would crumble.

All that shows that to make these killers lose you NEED to pressure to the point they are hopeless and have to go for every hit they can regardless of how smart some times. And that you need to be the best of the best.

Due to that same logic you should understand why people dislike these killers. I PERSONALLY dont play with the best people my friends I usually play with aren't as good as me for the most part and then I have a friend @azame who is better and even then we cant beat a good spirit without a team focusing on gens which killers complain.about on the forums. See the predicament? We do what YOU guys TELL us and then you COMPLAIN so you can fix gens and keep your killers unfair.

Not only is this a reflection of defensive mindsets you guys say that these killers are fine because people who play for thousands of hours, coordinated with good perk synergy wreck them or barely beat them in spirits case, you say they are fine for pubs which the servers I play on SUCK! red ranks with urban evasion and self care who let you die or cant do gens. These killers wreck the majority over some dumb mechanics and its ok because a tournament with some of the best players had players who destroyed them.

TLDR(however you put it): its dumb to talk about how justified spirit and PH bad mechanics are over a tournament with some of the best players who finish gens in 3 to 5 minutes when the public matches can't replicate that

Put your opinions below and thanks for reading

FYI tier lists should use the highest capacity for play, balance should not.

I mean, that applies to the vast majority of games with tournament scenes, but somehow that doesn't deter those games from seeing mechanics, balance, etc. from the perspective of tournament play.

But tournament play shouldnt carry over and also this is about how people use the tournament style to say that the no interaction parts of these killers are ok. That is all im trying to get at and if I didnt make that obvious enough i have no clue how else to put it.

Again, it does for nearly every other game that has a tournament scene.

None of which are remotely like Dead by Daylight.

  • I never said they were. Street Fighter ain't remotely like Hearthstone.

Yes, but they are both symmetrical games to an extent. You cannot apply any of the same balancing strategies around an asymmetrical game. It does not work.

Its a paradox in a sense because the only way to counter each other is to play in the ways that the other hates the most. How do you counter gen rushing, you bring strong killers that are good in chase as well as having high map pressure. How do you counter those killers you bring second chance perks to extend each chase and waste as much of the killers time while your team powers through gens. Then at the end of the day each side is complaining about the others playstyles and loadouts, yet both were just playing the thing to give them the better chance of victory. You can say "oh well I dont always bring a full meta load out I only bring 2 meta perks and the other are just funzies perks" well the killer also only brought one size fits all load out and yellow add ons but theyre playing Freddy or hag or something. Nobody to very few people enjoy losing, everyone wants to win while also having fun but the most effective strategy for each side is very unfun for the other side. That's the dichotomy of this game.

That is so true and i was thinking about it and people also say oh well survivors had limits to items but dont talk about the add on limits for killers

  • Then why did you bring up tournaments from other games like it has any relevance here?

Okay so people using tournaments as a justification for nerfing survivor, what do you actually want? Every time I see this topic there is never anything actually constructive.

I assume you are familiar with L4D, L4D is also asymmetrical even tho the game is 4v4 infected vs survivors, the survivors usually outclass the infected by alot. However both games (1 and 2) had a good healthy competitive scene. In my opinion those games can be compared to dbd and people were able to balance games out for competitive matches and tournaments.

Why can tournament play be applied to public random matches?

Depending on the ruleset they can be applied to public matches especially in the case of botb even tho there were some rules favored one side over the other and even with the restrictions or limiting of perks and addons. However the goal is in the end the same, survivors want to escape and survive and killers obviously want to kill the survivors and prevent them from escaping.

So what is survivor about? It is about playing good as a team versus a single entity that is stronger than each survivor on their own. So premade tournament squads achieve what I want to see from teammates in soloq, the best possible teamwork limited only by their own abilities and how good each individual does against the killer.

Compared to soloq, the comparison lacks but we all know that people can also q up as 4 man swf. The game itself changes when that happens because you are at an info advantage compared to soloq unless people bring info perks which tell them basicly what premade does via communication. Because the info perks can be skipped completely due to communication, you have the possibility to trade those perkslots for for meta perks.

The diffrence between soloQ and 4Man SWF is too big right now to achieve a good balance for an asymmetrical game in one game mode. In my opinion the solution is not to continue to balance solo and swf and treat them as the same because they are not. In addition to that one could also split the Qs but that results in long waiting times for swfs and also more workload for the devs since some perks (as they are right now are useless in a game mode where you go only against swfs).

The choice becomes clear, give solo q the same info as 4man swf, that includes voice chat (which one can turn off if you are getting annoyed by someone or you really are into the lone wolf and also we do not need to act as if the average game nowadays can not afford a headset or doesnt already own one) other games have this too and it is a none issue even tho you will always have people who try to troll others via chat but that is not the majority of the community. Also regional matchmaking is already a thing and people on the internet in general use english. So the language barrier should not be a big obstacle and even for that there are easy workarounds that help to communicate even tho we speak diffrent languages as other games like dota 2 have shown. Add a totem counter for overall overview and balance around what we end up with. Rework perks accordingly.

That is what I would want from the game, right now it is sad that only 2 killers are actually really viable against survivors who play very good as a team and do what they are supposed to do in the first place, given ofc that you have somewhat the same skilllevel on both sides but you can not balance a game for diffrences in skill. Also I do not say, yeah nerf survivors into the ground but to treat solo q and 4man swf as the same results in too many frustrations as we have them right now.

Because the comparison still holds? That isn't me saying that DBD is just like your typical 1v1 game, and DBD not being 1v1/symmetrical doesn't have anything to do with that comparison.

You can't really comment either way based on a tournament. People love to complain about how survivors are OP on the forum, but I have seen no good evidence for this. Kill rates as of the last stats drop were ~65% overall and ~70% at red ranks. This is in a world with an EGC where the last survivor has a chance to get hatch.

The responses I typically get to this are "but those numbers include hook suicides so they're invalid!" and "those numbers are almost a year old so they're invalid!" To that I'd say, if you don't think these numbers are meaningful, I'd love to see your more convincing evidence for why survivor is OP.

I personally think the game is in a better state balance-wise than it ever has been. Killers like Pyramid Head should not be regularly losing (which I'd call a 0k or a 1k) to teams of a similar skill level even if those survivors are on comms. You can't communicate your way out of a relatively quick down against a killer than can zone, and that means the PH can build pressure.

I use pyramid head most of the time I have perks I use I think is similar to himself in the silent hill games give a clue it what every texting bout
