Executioner and Cages of Atonement

I feel like Cages of Atonement are not worth the trouble. I mean the survivor needs to step in torment which is easy to avoid if you care. Sure it counters some perks but it also prevents the use of certain perks on PH. Afterwards it TPs the survivor across the map, typically near another survior and even if there's no one extremely close, other survivors see the cage's aura and can be reasonably sure PH isn't going to be lurking around it for some time. Which generally means a near instant save.

I'd like to see something more unique with the cage mechanic. Something like the rescuer or victim getting skill checks during the rescue, with failure causing a scream and the caged (and caged survivor) tping to a different location. I'd also make the initial TP random as opposed to just far away from the killer. The killer still doesn't see where the cage is, and if the cage remains more than 10secs in the killer's terror radius it TPs as well.

This prevents the killer from camping, adds an interesting mechanic and makes using the ability useful over just hooking everyone normally. If the ability is too strong (due to failing the check means a lot of distance to cover in order to save the victim, then I'd be for a reduced entity progression on it.)

  • I think Cages are underused because there's a common lack of understanding of how much time the Cage saves you over hooking. On average it can take up to 12 seconds to hook a survivor (2 seconds for the pick up, 1-2 seconds for the hook and about 8 seconds for the carry unless they happen to be right next to a hook when you down them). Cages only take 2 seconds total, so it gives Pyramid Head an additional roughly 10 seconds of extra time per Cage to go start chasing someone else. For context 10 seconds is enough time to walk halfway across the maps at his 4.6 m/s movement speed which is plenty of time to reach a new survivor. Or you can think of it as getting 1/2 a Pop Goes the Weasel trigger worth of extra time whenever you Cage.

That time bonus alone makes Cages worth using, the fact that it also gets around all survivor hook based perks is a bonus.

Cages are also underused because of their "nerf" because of 'camper criers'.

Hence with my proposed changes it still doesn't allow camping. Because right now the only use I see for it is when there aren't any hooks nearby or when I've downed 2 survivors and don't want to waste time putting them both on a hook. And that's only if one of the survivors happens to have Torment on them.
