Why do people consider Hangman's Trick is a bad perk?

Today I read again its description and after a few games, it seems pretty good to me, yet not many people seem to use it or at least acknowledge its existence.

I get that it's not as consistent as other hook aura reading perks like bbq, but you can spot those sneaky survivors around the hook you are heading to, and can catch them off-guard which is kinda funny if you ask me.

The only explanation I can give to myself is that people change opinions hard(?) Like, when the reworked Surveilliance perk came out, not many people thought it was worth running it, and still believed it was weakish, but after a few big streamers started using it, many people realised its power. I think Hangman's Trick suffers from the same problem, people expect too much from this perk, and dont get that what this perk does, does very good.

  • It's inconsistent at best

6m range is not big enough... of they made it 8m or 10m it would be so much better

but it works when you are carrying a survivor... getting the hook is more important then looking around for survivors around hooks

  • Sabotaging just doesn't happen in my matches, so i can ignore that ability.

When i used it for a day or so, no one was nearby.

And i prefer to not use Perks that only give a benefit every now and then at most.

There's just better Aura Perks out there.

  • If they had left it how it was in the PTB it would've been decent and worth using for tracking.

Instead they nerfed it into just a Sabo counter...which is completely useless. Use a perk for an extremely tiny, tiny chance they are running 1 single perk....that doesn't even really hard counter that perk if it is being ran...and that perk is counterable without using a perk...

You could tell me all 4 survivors were running Sabo before a match starts and it STILL would not be worth running that perk imo...that's how bad it is.

Literally a complete waste of time even touching the perk when they could've spent that time on something else.

While i agree its pretty useless, its sole purpose is to be a sabo counter. Which it does. There are other aura perks that apply to the match as a whole that are better which is why it isnt used

Incidentally i got a sabo save last night, saboed 2 hooks forcing the killer to drop my girl kate ๐Ÿ˜Š

I disagree. I don't think it counters Sabo almost at all.

I'd get more counter value running Knockout or Deerstalker, and those are at least universally decent, not just only good for an extremely niche scenario of someone happening to be running Sabo. Heck you can counter it fine without a perk, why even waste a slot in the first place.

  • The old version was infinitely better in my opinion. Wasn't good of that many Killers, but it was of great use for what it did.

It respawned hooks. That was the singular reason anyone used old HT. Being able to know for certain you ALWAYS had a hook nearby was a great thing for slower, more defensive, Killers. Trapper for example had GREAT use of old HT and it was 100% cemented in my builds for him. It allowed Trapper to spend time setting up a defensive area, likely around a 3-4 gen, without a risk of being unable to hook someone.

Iv killed entire Survivor teams on a SINGLE hook thanks to old HT as Trapper. It was great, and now that HT is changed. Trapper went right back to being a sub par Killer. One who needs to sacrifice far too much time and possible the game in order to use his own power.
