Passive totems effect
I have an idea for dull totems that would give more of a reason to do them.
I think that dull totems should have a passive effect that makes the gates have a 'spiritual' pressure to open them. Justifying that for a lore reason wouldn't be hard and it's something that is used in a lot of movies/games as a way for poltergeists to keep people trapped inside a house, room, etc. That could be a small effect or an overbearing one. Note that it would still NOT be required to do them but it would make the final objective (gates) easier to do. It gives people more of a reason to do the totems since it's harder to escape otherwise, and the killer has more of a reason to patrol instead of camp.
Upsides:
- More reason to stay or to spend time doing totems in advance. It also gives them a purpose.
- More use for remember me. The perk would actually make it a lot harder to open the gates so it'll be more viable.
- If a gate is opened with blood warden that would make it take longer to dip out the other gate.
- Slightly longer game time.
- Hex retribution may see more use.
- A possible way to replace NOED if it has a strong effect.
- Requires no perk slots. This would be something every killer would benefit from.
- Opens a door to make a future perk that boosts this passive effect.
Downsides:
- Hooks near gates would be harder to save. May actually encourage hook camp in that situation if the gate isn't opened and be harder to counter if the totems aren't done. At the same time... More reason to do totem than NOED maybe???
- Would take tweaking to balance it right. Too much and survivors will die too much. Too little and its meaningless.
