Hey Devs, Here's a New Killer and Survivor Perk Idea

Even though I’m almost exclusively a survivor, I think it’s unfair that killers can’t do anything to reverse the progress on a gate that’s being opened. That got me thinking, and I came up with an idea for a new killer, one of his perks, and a survivor counter perk.

The new killer will be a Beserker. For those who don’t know, Beserkers were Old Norse warriors who were known for their ruthless brutality. Hence the phrase, “He went beserk.” And one of his perks, “Beserk,” will be about destruction. Here’s how Beserk would work.

Let’s say a killer was rocking Franklin’s Demise. If he/she hits a survivor, that survivor then drops their item. With the Berserk perk, the killer can then “go beserk” by stomping on/hitting the item—slightly damaging it at Tier 1, moderately damaging it at Tier 2, and totally breaking it at Tier 3. The survivor can still pick up the item, but if Beserk was at Tier 3, the item is now totally useless. If the survivor makes it out of the match with the item, it’ll be restored. (And yes, Franklin’s demise does already cause some damage, but not much. Beserk at Tier 3 can take a totally charged item and break it completely and instantly. That’s the difference). Now I know some killers will say that’s not fair to them. They’ll say they’d have to work 2 perks to get that effect, but that’s not the full purpose of Beserk anyway. That’s where the exit gates come back into play. Beserk’s main function is destruction, and when it comes to gates, using it will act like Pop Goes the Weasel. It’ll instantly regress gate progress (maybe at 10/15/20%) and continue to do so (albeit slowly) until a survivor touches it. Like Pop, it’ll have a cool down. (It would be insanely OP for a killer to hit the gates over and over again. And yes, I know there are other OP concerns, especially because of gate location spawning with the EGC. I’ll address that later). Now because you don’t need to hook a survivor to activate it, unlike Pop, it’ll have a longer cool down cycle.

I know some survivors will say Beserk isn’t fair to them for a few reasons, but the new survivor will have a perk to combat this. I can’t think of a catchy name, so let’s just call it Mender for now. Here’s how Mender will work. Let’s say a killer used Beserk to destroy an item, if a survivor uses Mender, he/she can repair it back to the level it was before it was destroyed (it wouldn’t be fair to the killer to have it fully restored). This would take the same amount of time as sabotaging a hook, and the repair speed will be determined by what tier the perk is, and there will be skill checks. Regarding gates, any survivor will be able to stop the regression by once again pulling down on the gate’s lever (in other words, you don’t have to use Mender), but with Mender, that progress will be much faster (it could even potentially give non-Beserked gates a slightly increase in progression speed, similar to Resilience or Wake Up).

Now regarding some possible critiques, Beserk will be OP if the gates spawn close together, but I already think the devs should change that and make them consistently spawn farther. For survivors who say it’s not fair for the killer to be able to totally destroy their item, keep in mind that if the killer chooses to stop the chase to break the item, the survivor is now gaining distance and could avoid a hook/sacrifice—and if that’s the survivor’s last hook, they’re losing their item anyway (unless they got a white ward). At least this will give the survivor a chance to pick their item back up and escape with it through the gate. And remember, Mender can repair the item.

Beserk can also help balance things for the killer’s benefit if there’s one survivor who is consistently blinding them, but again, it’s a gamble. If a killer takes the time to break an item, they’re not kicking gens or hooking survivors. And as a survivor, you take a gamble on going back for your item and potentially running into the killer (the killer should have the ability to see the aura of the dropped item within a certain range—what that range is should be within reason, and mirror existing aura reading capabilities, like Plunderers). And if a survivor has chosen to repair an item, that means they’re not doing other things, like working on gens, cleansing totems, healing themselves/others, sabotaging hooks, etc. It slows down game play. It’s up to the killer and survivor to strategize and take risks, which to me makes the game more fun.

Obviously, this isn’t exhaustive, and yes, if you’ve got a killer who’s rocking Beserk, Remember Me, and NOED, you could have a hard time getting out, but if the gates spawn far enough (as they should anyway), and you’ve got Mender, you should be able to get out even as a sole survivor (especially because Berserk will have a cool down). And as a killer, you’re taking a huge gamble by utilizing a build focused solely on the EGC instead of other perks, like Nurses, Iron Grasp, BBQ, etc. And for killers who say rocking Beserk won’t stop the gates from opening anyway if all the survivors are left, that’s most likely true, but you’ve bought yourself more time to hook someone and gain more points.

Are there details to work out? Yes. I tried to be as fair and balanced as possible, but for instance, should Resilience/Wake Up stack with Mender? Would overcharge be buffed to also apply to gates with Beserk? Seems OP, but maybe. Perhaps there could be a limit to how many times Mender can repair a single item. Or maybe each time (after the first time) it gets repaired, it loses a little bit of life (because it’s damaged over and over). Could a toolbox stack with Mender to make repairs faster? Idk. And how many seconds would it take the killer to actually go through the animation of using Beserk? In my opinion, it should be longer than the time it takes to kick a gen. These are just ideas to start off with, but the point is, the killers should be able to destroy items and regress gate progression, and survivors should be able to counter that. The specifics of how these perks will be implemented is what makes or breaks them, so that’s why I think the forums are a good place to do that.
