Regarding the Oni nerf

TLDR; Nerfing Oni's flick is not the right way to balance Oni because it lowers the Killer's skill ceiling and dumbs down the power's usage, but the flick can't stay the way it was either. Other parts of his kit should be adressed in conjunction with a lighter nerf to the flick.

"Nerfing Oni's flick is not the right way to balance Oni because it lowers the Killer's skill ceiling and dumbs down the power's usage"

Taking away skill expression from a character is never a good idea. With the way Oni works now, his dash is almost purely a mobility tool he can use to patrol generators, and his demon strike is an easier backrev with a giant AoE. With the nerf Oni didn't become harder to play or do well with, he just became easier to use and less fun because there's not as much depth to the way you can use his power anymore. He now exists as a strange hybrid between Billy and Myers.

"but the flick can't stay the way it was either"

The flick was inherently too strong. Being caught out anywhere remotely open meant you're going down no matter what, and even relatively small loops and jungle gyms weren't safe from Oni. Oni was frustrating to play against because when he got his power rolling he could easily snowball the game into a 4 man slugfest. Playing against an even remotely competent Oni gave me slug-meta Billy flashbacks.

"Other parts of his kit should be adressed"

Change the way blood orbs drop. Survivors no longer drop blood orbs while outside of a chase or being healed/healing, but drop alot more while in a chase. Everytime you vault, drop a pallet (both of these amplified while being chased), repair, cleanse, sabotage or search you also drop blood orbs. This makes being injured and unable to heal alot less snowbally against Oni (being in this situation felt like a giant screw you because you had no choice but to bleed all over the place and create free power for the Oni) and artificially slows down the game by discouraging survivors from completing objectives without healing first.

"in conjunction with a lighter nerf to the flick"

Limit the amount the Oni can flick from side to side. Before, Oni was able to flick approximately 90 degrees to the left or right when demon striking out of a demon dash (I'm basing this on estimation). Limit this to ~60 degrees to the left and right so survivors actually have a chance to dodge the demon strike, but still allow Oni to get a secure hit in if he maneuvers his demon dash correctly.

  • Or you know..just make his turning a bit better and call it a day...pretty sure that's the plan..its a simple problem not worthy of a solution that would likely bring more harm than good

  • Oni is perfekt now how he is let him like this devs thx
