Yeah its surprising that Ebony Mori's are still in the game. There is nothing that justifies eleminating 60% of one sides objective. Could you imagine if there was an offering that survivors could burn and all gens were 60% finished at the start of the match,

It takes 10 seconds and match start to run up to the shack and see if the steps are there. You should be avoiding or looping near the shack dependant on that.
Spawn points don't always work like that, sometimes they do but not always. Depending on where you spawn in relation to the killer you might not have a choice but to go to shack if it is the only safe spot you can make it to before you had a chance to check it for the basement.

The basement is only really strong if its on an already territorial killer like the Trapper, Hag, Demo or Leatherface for obvious reasons. If you make the massive misplay of going down near the basement you played into their strengths. That's on you.
The basement is actually very strong for every killer even wraith and legion. Just not as strong as it is for killers with oneshots or huntress or plague with corrupt purge or something like that.
I agree that sometimes it is a survivors fault for going down too close to the basement but that doesn't change the fact that a large portion of the map (A certain radius around the basement) is certainly unbalanced without reasonable counterplay if just one person goes down in said radius. Unless you are SWF with a good 3 or 4 man and probably still needing to run the correct perks just to have a chance.
Im not saying that the basement itself is a bad idea I just think the development team can come up with something to make it better. And it still be the most dangerous place on the map.

the problem with the current version of the basement is that there are killers that can insta-down players who enter the basement to rescue their teammate. Bubba for instance is someone nobody wants to deal with so they rather leave their teammate to die than risk a rescue.
Now if there was a second entrance/exit, people would be more willing to go for the rescue. A hidden door perhaps that needs to be activated before the second entrance/exit becomes available for the players to take advantage of. Similar to totems, the switch could be hidden randomly in the map and activating the switch would take time similar to cleansing.
Yeah something like that would be great. It would keep the basement a dangerous spot but it would give survivors options to help deal with it.

The Basement is supposed to be a dangerous spot for Survivors.
Its not poor design, its intended Design.
Your teammate should have located the Basement and stayed away from it.
Just because a design choice is intended doesn't necissarily mean it is a good design, By that logic there should still be 2 pallets and a window at every jungle gym because thats how things were at the start back in 2016 and thats what the devs intended. But that was obviously a poor design so they fixed it. And unfortunately everyone can't always stay away from the basement do to the overall design of the game.

Yeah Ebany Mori literally takes about 60% of the killers objective out of a match. Could you imagine if survivors had an offering that made all gens only take 32 seconds. Mori is the dumbest thing in the game. I am not going to spend another penny on dbd until Mori's are at least reworked slightly.

Toxic swf is super tame compared to what it was a couple of years ago. The toxic teams do seem to play more around events. It will calm back down in another week or so.
-
I actually just logged in to make this same suggestion. After watching Spacecoconuts new video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZltnD4p4FA) I realized that this option would be invaluable for newer players. Between all the different killers powers addons and especially perks there is way too much for a newer player to take in which can lead to bad experiences. Giving a choice for a solo experience would alleviate a lot of frustration newer players have.

Lag switching is considered Unsportsmanlike conduct, and is put under that exact section in the Game Rules post as a result. I'll give a "quote" below of this section in the Game Rules post.
UNSPORTSMANLIKE CONDUCT
- Botting
- Lag switching
- Disconnects (leaving the match before killed or sacrificed) - DO NOT REPORT
- For both Botting and Lag switching, in-game reports are REQUIRED / Customer Support ticket OPTIONAL
Most, if not every report requires an in-game report and an optional support ticket. In the case of Lag Switching, it doesn't list video recording as a mandatory thing, so i'd have to say no in your case. Screenshots and/or Video Recordings are mostly optional, despite this though, they're very helpful and they can solve an issue a lot faster sometimes when presented with hard hitting evidence of the offence.
So to end it off here, i'd say no, it's not entire necessary for you to record lag switching in-game. If you'd like to still do so, than it's of course beneficial for solving the issue a lot quicker, as video evidence can speak volumes on a certain issue, especially if it involves a player actively gaining an advantage in-game.
Here's the link to the Game rules post for further review if NECESSARY
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/19450/game-rules-and-report-system#latest
Awesome, thanks for this answer. I will definitely start reporting lag switching when It seems like they are cheating.

I know what some of you are thinking: “Great, another thread about gen speeds!” But this is meant to explore a particular perk that everyone and their mother loves to run... Barbecue & Chilli (BBQ).
It may be safe to assume that BBQ & Chilli is one of the most used (if not the most used, especially after the Ruin nerf) killer perks in the game. In my experience I see this perk used by the killers I face a VERY HIGH percentage of the time (probably 3 out of every 4 matches). Why is this the case? The conditional aura reading that’s countered by lockers or being close to the survivor about to be hooked? In part, yes... but I feel like it’s those ever-tasty bonus bloodpoints (BPs). I get it, the grind is ridiculous and BPs are the currency that keeps your killer/survivor economy running. We need to unlock teachables, P3 everyone (if you’re into pointless bloody versions of default cosmetics), and stock up on items/addons. BUT - if we take out the BP factor from BBQ, what are you left with? Like I mentioned earlier, a conditional aura reading perk that lasts FOUR seconds does nothing to slow down gens (the point of my thread). Yes, you may get a good proc [code word for the perk activating] and see 3 survivors then pick your target; maybe it’s 2 survivors left and now you can secure the 4K... but during the critical portion of the match this perk is situational at best, especially on killers not named Freddy, Billy, Oni (if his power is up), Nurse and maybe Spirit. Other killers don’t have the speed/map control to utilize this perk effectively even with a good proc, yet I’ve run into Trappers and Hags that are running the perk. We all know why, but I’m pretty sure they’ll be the first to complain about gen speeds. But even with those killers I mentioned it’s better on, there are much better perk alternatives.
Thrilling Tremors is a better BBQ for gen stalling. “But Rey, there’s a cooldown!” Yes, there is... because otherwise this perk would be INSANE. It gives you immediate information of which gens (the survivor’s primary objective) are being repaired REGARDLESS of distance. Even if they let go of a gen, they are now forced to wait out those precious 16 seconds worth of gen time for you to hook your survivor and decide your next move. Pair it with Pop Goes The Weasel for maximum effect.
I won’t get into every gen-regression strategy/perk combos since there are quite a few. Corrupt Intervention + Dying Light (initial slowdown from CI while you build up DL); Sloppy + Thanataphobia (keep them injured and destroy their action speeds); etc. The point is, if you’re one of those killer mains that has an issue with gen speeds and still run BBQ, STOP RUNNING BBQ. There are perks designed to slow down gens and BBQ is not one of them, especially if you’re not good enough to capitalize when it does proc.
This is not meant to come off as me dictating how you should play or what perks to run. If you want to run BBQ (again, I see this perk probably 90% of matches I’m in) that’s your choice, but don’t complain about gen speeds.
What are your thoughts??
~ Rey (equal Survivor player / Killer player who doesn’t use BBQ every match)
I really don't feel that BBQ and gen speed issues are connected in anyway. If 2 survivors spawn on a gen together it takes 44 seconds to pop it without a toolbox. There is currently no perk that can change that. If the killer finds a different survivor and initiates chase 20 seconds after the match starts then that gen will almost certainly pop during chase. The other survivor will most likely be more than half done with a gen when the first pops. And if its too far away from the hooked survivor assuming the killer won the chase, it could very well pop before the killer runs straight to it after hooking the first survivor. Meanwhile the two survivors that popped the original gen would have probably made some progress on at least one other gen before going for the unhook.
If the killer is up against a strong team this is a likely start to the match. Im not saying its impossible for the killer to win at this point but you pretty much do need to snowball, have a good 3 gen or play what most people consider to be dirty., because you lose so much in the first minute of the game. Old ruin used to help with early game and allowed killers to play in a more fun way. While still having somewhat of a chance for victory against a strong teams gen speed. 1 or 2 people looking for ruin 1 or 2 on a gen and 1 being chased. Chase ends and the killer lost probably only a gen instead of half the survivor objective.
Where I would agree that BBQ isn't a very effective perk in most situations the overall grind to obtain perks that work effectively together is a tremendous amount of time for killers who play all killers. For survivor mains a player can basically get away with leveling one character to have all perks and only leveling the rest to 40 for the teachable. Might not even need to do that if they are purchasing perks on the shrine of secrets. And since all survivors are the same except for appearances they can put extra points in other survivors when convenient. The overall bloodpoints to have a single maxed survivor is considerably less than to max out multiple killers.
For the killer mains who play all or lots of different killers and run bbq almost every game they probably are not close to having all the perks they want unlocked on all the killers they play. I myself have about 600 hours in the game and the majority of those hours were before the blood web changes allowing two perks per web after level 40. I have also spent probably three fourths of my bloodpoints on killers. And run bbq most games. When I play killer I play pretty much all the killers and there are still some killers that I really don't have too many perks on at all, little lone an extra perk to help with gen speed in place of bbq if I have that unlocked. I have also not prestige any killer.
So thinking about all of this for killer mains with 100 to 200 hours or so, which is probably a larger part of the killer community than anyone would expect. They almost certainly don't have the perk load out that they want to be using. And they would be crazy not to use BBQ as much as possible in order to cut the probably 2000 plus hours of game time needed to get the perks across multiple killers in half. The reality is an overwhelming majority of the player base will not want to put that much time in and probably never will but would still like to at least earn enough bloodpoints to get some of the loadouts they want across multiple killers so thats why bbq is used so much.
I too also play both sides and lately overall I have been playing survivor more and I definitely was a killer main.

They exist because the devs want them to, that's about as much as anyone can say here.
Mori's have been in the game since 2016 with multiple animations dedicated to them, the concept of Ebony mori's are considered highly controversial as well, so it's entirely unknown why they keep them around. I for one don't really like Ebony mori's, hence why I never use them since I believe them to be unfair, but Ivories are a different concept, I personally believe Ivory mori's to be a lot more reasonable than their 4 man counter-part.
With that being said though, your guess is as good as mine to why this offering still exists in DBD, could it be because of it's history? Because of the time put into the animations? Because they want Killers to enjoy killing Survivors through other means? Who knows, it's entirely unknown unless a dev comes in and tells you themselves. We can't really explain or justify why they exist, they just do.
Lol yeah I guess your right.

Edited: Ok so I see arguments for Mori's in the state of the game during 2016 but I still don't see any valid argument for Mori's now in Feb of 2020. They are single handedly the only thing in the game that cuts ones sides objective down by two thirds. Assuming equally skilled players on both sides there isn't any counter to them at all. With Devour hope you can break the totem. With keys survivors still need to finish a set amount of gens depending on how many survivors are alive. And if two are dead and two escape hatch with 3 gens done, its still a tie for the killer and survivors still had to do more than half their objective. Don't get me wrong I think keys are an issue as well but thats a different discussion.
And as far as SWF on comms goes they still have to do the full objective. Yes they have a huge buff with no downside but thats really a different issue as well.
The Devs have stated recently that they have not been creating perks for survivors that increase gen speed basically because they feel that would be unfair to the other side by decreasing the survivors objective and would upset the balance too much. (I cant remember the exact quote sorry) But with this in mind it doesn't feel like ebony mori's fit now in 2020 either. Especially after the devs have been pushing so hard for more fair balanced matches. With examples of the buffs, nerfs and reworks of killers like Nurse, Spirit, Freddy and Doctor. And the nerfs of insta heals, Brand new part, Mettle of Man and Ruin and so on. All of which were admittedly powerful but none of which upsets the balance of a Match the same way an Ebony Mori does.
If the goal is to create a huge imbalance just to shake things up then in my opinion that is a terrible mindset for the style of the game. And is contradictory to the mindset of the reasoning behind the balance changes to everything else. Dbd might be a casual game but I cant think of any other multiplayer game off the top of my head where a player can start a match or round and give themselves such a huge advantage. The only reason why I think the imbalance of Mori's hasn't been fixed yet is because most killers realize how imbalanced they are and just refuse to use them. Or at least refuse to use them in way that destroys the balance. So it seems the Devs are relying on the good will of killers for balancing this offering.

I kinda feel that burning a cloaked wraith shouldn't be a thing at all. A mechanic that nerfs a killer power just by a survivor using an item is pretty huge. If there was an item that stopped a killer from being able to pull out a chainsaw I think everyone would agree that would be kinda broken. But in the end its not too hard to avoid being burned out of cloak. I think I have only come across a handful of survivors in the last couple of years that could do it with very good effect. And typically if I see a lot of items in lobby or if not all 4 survivors are readied up by 15 seconds left, in general I will switch to one of the stronger killers that I have pre-prepared for strong swf teams anyways. 2 or more flashlights or not readied survivors and I'm definitely switching off wraith.
It does kinda stink to feel the need to switch killers because the most fun games for me and the survivors are usually the ones where I play a weaker killer while playing around trying out different combos of perks and addons. But in the end my advice is to just switch killers to something you have pre-prepped if you are worried about the survivor items breaking a match in any way.
-
I suppose your right about hatch so maybe give second to last survivor chance to sacrifice themselves. Also you are right that you cannot force someone to change but I do think my suggestion would keep a significant portion of the players who suicide on first hook more engaged which in turn after escaping sometimes and contributing to the game would over time help at least a portion of people with the give up mindset to try.
I've had plenty of matches that seemed hopeless as survivor and either my team managed to turn it around or I got the hatch. I think Dc'ers and suicide'rs never experience this and after they do a few times that would be their "reason to stay in". AFK is still better for the team than suicide where it would give the others time to do gens while they are on the hook, someone might get a safe unhook and a full heal which would be good for altruism and the killer would have to waist time to go back and hook the afk.
Also AFKing would keep them out of more matches with others for longer periods of time which means healthier games for everyone else.
And besides who likes hitting the struggle button anyways it adds no value to the experience, Just wears your controller or keyboard and is kinda physically uncomfortable.
I think everyone agrees that Dcing is a bad thing and thats why the Devs created a penalty which not many people are complaining about. And suicide on first hook is essentially the same thing with no penalty.
-
I died to this today as well. And then I turned the game off. I'm pretty sure if the community were to vote on one quality of life update that could be implemented easily not having to mash a button for struggle would be it.
-
No. They're definitely not balanced at all. But at the same time neither are keys. Which I guess if your looking at it from a stand point of how your doing on average over the course of a bunch of games then they average each other out. But then there are killers like myself that never use them except for dailies and still have to deal with keys. But on a per match basis Mori's are definitely going to unbalance the match. Mori's should definitely be nerfed.

Couldn't agree more. Fun is subjective what's not fun for some is fun for others. The people that beg for nerfs I imagine probably dont have a lot of experience playing and very little playing the opposite side, probably under 100 hours total. And probably less than 10 on the opposing side that they are begging for nerfs on. And most of them haven't come close to reaching their own their own potential in skill. As far as spirit is concerned I wouldn't mind if they reworked her like they did freddy but only if she was still just as strong as she is now. Just make her harder to play like nurse so we dont have a million people playing spirit stomping all over the green and yellow ranks.
-
Lol what a ridiculous idea. In the end there is nothing wrong with camping as far as balance is concerned. The game is designed to be balanced for an average of 2 survivors escaping. And if the killer does nothing but camp and survivors play right then a 2 kill is pretty much the best they can hope for. If the survivors are good and the killer is really bad than they might only get 1 kill if even that.
Just check YouTube for statagies against camping. Barrowed time, ds, deliverance and of course doing gens are all viable ways to deal with campers.
Also if you start punishing one side for gameplay that some people dont like than what's to say that Killer Mains shouldn't say that survivors should be punished just as harshly for things that they dont find enjoyable to play against. And trust me as someone who plays both sides playing killer can be very frustrating and survivors can play with very toxic behaviors that are unbalancedfor killer.
Also you dont want killers to lose rank. You would just end up with semi decent killers dominating and 4king rank 20 to 10 every game.
