Honestly I'm considering quitting Killer altogether. I enjoyed both roles until I noticed half my games are vs red ranks (Rank 8 myself). Really demoralizing.
Also Killer is just plain harder to play when vs good survivors, every mistake you make is punished. As Survivor getting hooked isn't a big deal if your team is on gens, but as Killer missing a single M1, or getting looped too long... say goodbye to gens 1, 2 and maybe even 3.
I mean I see good killers stream and they play almost flawlessly with predictions/pressure/reads... if they don't then they never pip. Killer is just way more stressful as well playing on your own. Meh... IMO the game needs to start off with proper matchmaking. I can actually enjoy killer vs green/purple ranks, but not red.
To balance Killer a bit I'd start by removing DS. Having Dead hard/unbreakable is one thing, but when you have a survivor (and most red ranks do this) taking DS then it's so ######### punishing to make the error of picking up a previously hooked survivor. You basically lose a whole chase and have to make another hook. I mean yeah you can not tunnel but sometimes tunneling is the only way to win vs strong teams. Getting 9 hooks means ######### all when everyone is alive and all escape. It's like as Killer you have to fight against DS to prevent your tunnel, Borrowed to stop people unhooking in your face, Unbreakable if you chose to situational slug... as Killer your basically told this "Hook survivors one at a time, don't hook the same one twice, don't ever slug, don't camp". So your playstyle (if not very refined) is typically chase/hook/chase diff survivor/hook/chase diff survivor/hook. And if you violate that code you'll be at a severe disadvantage.

Players getting boosted by luck or cucked by unbalanced features of the game makes your idea very bad. I don't want potatoes in red ranks or godlike players bullying green rank killers. Apparently that's exactly what you want.
Well pretty much every other team game uses an ELO system based on win/loss for the team, it's been continuously demonstrated that someone who plays badly more often than not won't rank up.
The only issue with a win/loss condition in this game is that you could "boost" a friend rather easily as I think strong survivors can't evade killers better whilst weaker survivors can just be gen monkeys.
Saying that, I would rather this game simply had 2 SWF max limit and then implement a win/loss condition based on escapes. But I know the SWF limit would kill the game, it's just the best way to have a legit ranking system.

Everyone in this thread saying they need to make this game competitive has no idea what they are talking about.
They literally tried to make this game a competitive esport and it almost killed the game.
This game is not dying, if you don't enjoy the game because you think its repetitive its because you don't use mind games. Mind games are the most interesting and exciting part of this game and keeps it interesting to play.
If they tried to balance and make the game competitive, they would either have to balance for solo play which would make swf groups overpowered as heck (aka not balanced) or they would have to balance around swf which COMPLETELY destroys solo play and the game as a whole.
What did they do to make it competitive in the past?

They can't lol
Honestly tho if they pushed a balanced competitive scene it would be so fun. I really enjoy watching loops/chases and I think it would be awesome to have a pro scene where you had like teams of 5 players (4 survivors, 1 killer) and you played against other teams (like 2 games as survivor, and then 2 games as killer) or something like that. Imagine the crazy mindgaming pro Koreans could do at top level lol.
Just needs proper balance/ranking to garner more competitive interest. A lot of wasted potential in this game makes me kinda sad.

I think the biggest part of longevity in PvP games is the sense of competition and ranking. DbD really fails at this so without an effort to balance and promote a competitive scene it will slowly dwindle as players move on and new players aren't retained. As a 1 month old player I've already lost alot of interest since the ranking system and balance are both horrendous. The game has no clear definition of a win condition.
I've seen Killers sac 3 survivors, lost 1 to a hatch and get "Entity displeased". I've seen survivors have absolutely no concept of looping, but repair 2 gens, heal 2 survivors at an open gate, then get pips to red ranks. Lol.
The levelling up of survivors/killers as a new player feels incredibly slow. League of Legends is 10 seasons in going strong and if you make a new account you have access to all "perks" from lvl 1. With DbD I can clock 1k hours and not have a top tier set up for each survivor/killer. I can spend 5 euros on a DLC Killer but then I'm expected to level it up to 50 (and beyond) before it has a viable build. It's atrocious.
Items/Add-ons... No serious competitive game would keep these in their current state. At the very least, make it so each team of survivors can not pick more than 1 of the same item, or more than 1 of the same rareness (so you can't have 3 very rare toolboxes). A simple fix that stops toolbox abuse. Remove memento mori, it's a dumb idea. Balance all Killer add ons and give us good choices, don't have silly "very rares" so 1 in every X games you are basically OP.
This game doesn't attempt to promote competitiveness, it just hand holds you so any survivor with 2 working braincels can achieve red ranks, and if a Killer slugs every game can probably get to rank 1 easily.
The game should revolve itself around looping/chases. Being hooked should be more detrimental to your team, that way survivors who constantly get hooked easier, put their team behind more often and should lose more overall, it's ridiculous to see high rank survivors who don't even know how to run an L wall T wall. Establish a win condition, (3 escapes a win for survivor, 3 sacrifices a win for killer, 2-2 a draw). Yes it might seem to promote selfishness, but then you can make decisions based on a win condition (if this killer is face camping then we gen rush, escape and all survivors get the win).
Honestly despite my moaning this game is really fun at times, for real. But with no balance/ranking system to speak of I don't see myself sticking around.

Devs are working on a new system. No telling how long it will take tho.
The game is 3 years old... I mean... it takes this long to make an actual MMR system?

People keep saying things are toxic that I completely disagree with. I played league where people afk on first death or if you're having a bad game tell you to get cancer and die. In this game people are being way to sensitive to things, I laugh when people teabag or blink torches at me cause i know they just wanna get in my head and taunt me, it's just part of the mental aspect of the game. For me what's important is people say good game and are respectful in the lobby. I teabag and taunt the killer cause i want him to tunnel me so my team can pop gens, he can choose to believe im disrespecting him and get mad or he can acknowledge I'm just a character model crouching down and standing up.
-
I never dodge a lobby I really couldn't care less what people bring. There's no real balance to the game at the moment, it's better to just focus on improving and being the best killer/survivor you can be. Like I'm playing loops so badly it's not worth worrying about.

Nice writing.
I have only one thing to say:
Even I am not really a user of moris (I have just use them 1 day in my entire dbd playtime), I would miss the animations that go along with moris.
They are a little distraction to ... you know... hooking always someone up that then dies later on the hook because of blood loss, I think.
I can't know the future of moris, but I would dislike it if also the animations would be go away with them^^.
I can definitely agree Mori is awesome to look at for sure ๐
