If you needed ruin to win games maybe you ought to change the way you play the game. I never used it and did just fine most of the time.

    Statistically unlikely.

However. Let's assume that you're correct. I was carried by Ruin into ranks I didn't belong in. Now that the game balance has adjusted, I need to rank down a bit until I'm at the level that comfortably reflects my skill. Let's assume that is rank 8.

If I was rank 3, that means I need to lose 25 pips to make it down to rank 8. Note that this does not mean I need to lose 25 games in a row; because even if I'm struggling and miserable and sweating, by sheer random numbers I'm going to black pip here and there and maybe even pip up. I think that saying 40 games are going to be necessary to bring me back in line with where my skill really is.

So you're saying that I need to play 40 games in a row of miserable experiences, losing and frustrated and powerless, because the developers decided to take away my training wheels? Why would I want to do that to myself? I don't play this game because I want to feel bad. I don't have the patience to plow through 40 frustration fests, and I'm not going to do it.

And guess what? Even that is a moot point because ever since the mid-chapter update, when the Ruin nerf was released, I've had the rank update error. I am literally stuck at rank 3. No matter how bad I lose, I cannot lose rank. So now you're telling me that from now until whenever this bug is fixed (bear in mind that the Decisive Strike bug was fixed in less than a week) I just have to suck it up and deal with a horrible game experience? Nuts to that!

Typical hex problem. Whether before or after the Ruin change.

Yeah. But when spawns like this happen it is literally impossible for a hex totem to function as a late game totem or put pressure on survivors to find and cleanse the things.

  • What is it about the game that makes 80% of killers at red ranks use it? It’s generator speed. They get done too quickly without something to slow the game down. That’s the wound that Ruin is designed to bandage. You need to fix the underlying damage before removing the bandage. Fix generator speed.

You get more value out of new Ruin if you're applying pressure.... why?

Because you can force multiple people to get off the gen they were working on and they automatically regress without you needing to go there and kick it. That in itself is a big deal.

People that are dead set on it being a "nerf" are going to go with that argument rather than argue what value the new perk brings.

Probably because the design notes describe it as a nerf.

Just watching killers play the PTB.  I don't understand how anyone on the killer side can complain about it.  If you are running Surveillance you'll know where Survivors are at all times. It's like Kindred, but on till totem is cleansed.  The moment they hop off the gen you get the regression indicator, the moment they hop on you get the indicator that the gen has stopped regressing.  Just watching Tru and some others play killer on the PTB, this is not a nerf to Ruin, it's a buff.

So now instead of having to run Hex: Ruin at red ranks not to get roflstomped I need to run both Ruin and Surveillance. That is not an improvement.

  • Attempt 5. Suffocation pit. Three basement kills. The last survivor crawled to the opposite side of the map so that I couldn't get her to the basement even with Iron Grasp and Agitation. Wiggled off, ran back to corner, rinse and repeat.

The game was lost for the survivors at that side. She just wanted to deny me this challenge.

  • Ruin is a random numbers game, Thanataphobia is terrible, Dyling Light is terrible, Pop is good, Discordance and Surveilance do not directly contribute to gen slowdown and Thrilling Tremors is not primarily a stall perk. Corrupt is good for what it does.

So yes, we need more or an objectives redesign. Because not running Ruin or running Ruin and having it destroyed in less than 30 seconds stacks the game massively against the killer.

  • I have to agree with the original poster. Whenever the survivors complain long enough and hard enough, the response seems to be to make killers less powerful; we just got off the Nurse nerf and now Spirit seems next on the chopping block. As a killer main this is incredibly frustrating to see so much responsiveness to survivor complaints whereas complaints about unfair and overpowered things on the survivors side go unaddressed for years, or are changed to be almost worse than before.
