  Jax spent years working behind the scenes for the traveling industrial-metal show, moving massive steel trusses, setting up heavy subwoofers, and sweeping up shattered glass after every chaotic performance. To the crowd, the show was an escape. To Jax, the intense bass frequencies and flashing strobe lights were a machine that kept him moving even when his body wanted to give up. He became a fixture of the crew—quiet, reliable, and seemingly stitched together by sheer willpower and black coffee.The night of the final show, everything changed. During the heavy, syncopated climax of Ringmasters Back, a freak electrical surge caused a massive line of stage lighting to shatter simultaneously overhead. Rain of white-hot neon glass flooded the stage. Instead of running, Jax threw himself forward to push a stranded performer out of the way of a collapsing iron support beam.As the beam pinned him down, the world didn't go dark. The heavy, distorted bass line of the track slowed down, warping into a low, rhythmic heartbeat. The smell of ozone and burning stage wires morphed into a thick, suffocating fog. When Jax finally dragged himself out from under the wreckage, the screaming crowd was gone. The shattered stage glass beneath his hands was cold, black obsidian, and the distant hum of a generator echoed through the trees.
