I much prefer the "we can have our own interpretations" approach. My Yui is lesbian. My Adam is gay. My David is in the closet, and my Bill isn't anything, cause he's actually dead according to his lore.

Well that would most likely be the best way of handling anythings. Since it would allow everyone to have their own way of handling things and let it be true, in their personal cannon. Since to point to disney star wars, alot of shippers were not very happy with the way Rei and Klyo were handle. They sort of got what they wanted but not in the way they wanted. While leaving it up to everyone own mind, would allow them to picture it the way they desire 100%. Which is much better than other ideas in this thread that are more or less akin to burn the witch and shove their point of view down everyone's throat.

The reason it matters is because representation matters. Does Ellie's sexuality in The Last of Us matter? The game mechanics wouldn't be any different if she was attracted to males, and you could argue that her being a heterosexual young woman wouldn't even change the narrative that much. The problem, as I see it, is if every game is absent of homosexual characters. Then it is as if gay people do not exist in these game worlds, this straight-washing of societies, even if they are imagined, leaves people without representation regarding their sexuality.

Representation done well can help bring down barriers, it can help prevent bigotry, demystify and nomalize something that people have no choice in. Would Dead by Daylight be a better game if it reflected sexualities? Yes. Will it help me be beeter at escaping the Killer? Sadly it won't.

Well I seen alot of war and action genre focus pieces of media. That lack any romance, yet logically these characters had to come from some where. It seems like yes straight people exist, even if they don't say it in the story or show it. Since well a story focus on war, will sometimes purely focus on the front line fighting. Yet it wouldn't make much sense, for us to go with they didn't show it, so it doesn't exist. Since these people had to be born somehow and these pieces of media are base on our own world. Since everything else is like our world, in the case of these stories base on our own reality. It would only make sense, to think everything else works the same as our own world. Since a story only has so much time like in the case of a movie or even in other pieces of media, only has so much spot light it can focus on, it needs to leave things that are not important out, since a car I think everyone knows how it works and doesn't need it to be explained to them, when it could be used on more important story elements. Which something that is on going like dead by daylight and with the way the rifts work, they can always make sure everyone gets their own focus. That and when it comes to repsentation, to truly repsentation people. You need more than they are just gay. Since there is a slice of life show I watch, which has a gay couple. They act like a real couple, they are not just gay. They have disagreements, they get into trouble. They raise a child. They act like real people. Which is often what representation demands forget. The reason people relate to others, is due to who they are. Not what they are. People are not robots or part of some human mind that all act the same. That and I could add in a gay character to something, doesn't make it better. Same for a straight character, their sexually doesn't make something better. You have to put effort into it, to truly make it better. Otherwise any character who is straight would be beloved as Peter Parker or Like Luke Skywalker used to be before disney got their hands on him. Yet characters like Kirito are hated by alot of folk, due to their lack of effort or quality in the writing behind them. IF you truly want to represent someone. Do what all great classic characters did before them, flesh them out and make them feel like a real life person. For all humans are more than just gay or straight, they have a favorite drink, a meal they enjoy, things they like and dislike, not just their sexually.

Which also your final statement, conflicts it's self. You say it will make the game better but than go it has no effect on gameplay. Unless you meant story wise than fair point.

Ok, so not everyone teabags at gates. Shock and horror, I know.

Some of us also have different crouch functions. I happen to have LT for my crouch.

Generators are also controlled by the killer more than you let on.

Well when it comes to genrators. That depends on a number of things. Map size for one. Does the killer have mobility or not? Are the survivors stacking together on a single gen or spreading out and doing gens solo? All of these factors can effect how much control one side or the other has over their ability to defend or get gens done. That is before taking into account any possible rng with gen spreads, that can make them worst or better for one side or the other to get their objective done. Any case someone could make up for gens, might be true for a single match but on the same map, that case can no longer be true, due to the rng. Since one match, the gens could spawn very close together favoring the killer and than on the same map in a different match, the gens spawn massively spread out. Not taking into account pallet and loop spawns. It's hard to say any element is really true in 100% of matches, due to not only the rng of the map but also the rng of who you might be going against. You might be going against brand new players or people who have been playing for years with 6000 plus hours.

DS can easily be avoid if you slug them and wait the timer out.......

Well there is also counters to slugging lets not forget. Unbreakable, soul guard if a hex totem is up. So it really depends on the perks the survivors have. While soul guard is a dlc. Unbreakable, is free to pcs players at least. Since Bill is free. That and players who play killers are still going to get label evil for slugging.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/192978/decisive-strike-changing-it-to-be-true-anti-tunneling-perk

lets make it so instead of getting off the killers shoulder by landing it you remove 50% of the killers earned bps during that match at that time?

So a killer is new, they only know their objective is to kill survivors. So they think tunneling is a good idea to get someone out quickly. Than they get hit by ds. Than lose half their blood points for no real reason. Like this game barely explain things as it is. With you having to figure most of this stuff out by yourself or going online to figure things out. Now you want to add even more confuse? Sorry but this is a bad idea and will drive off new players. It's to harsh of a punishment. When ds already stuns the killer and denies them pressure by denying them a hook and making it so other survivors can keep on working on gens. Which is how it punishes the killer, when it used at the right moment to deny a killer pressure when they need it most.

that and to quote another post of yours. "this is the only kind of penalty that would make killers fear tunneling some one." Alot of people play both sides. Sometimes they get hit by ds due to wanting to slug but the game forces a grab on them. Now due to factors outside their own control, they are getting punished with blood point lose. That and why the in group out group mind set? They are not a killer, they are a player like everyone else. That and some killers players can choose to play, can snowball really quickly like Myers or Oni, if things go ideally for them. Oni can slug everyone in a single use of their power. Picks up the wrong survivor, due to looking alike or thinking the game is over and there is nothing to worry about, get hit by ds and than that survivor goes and picks up someone else, dragging the game out or possibly saving the survivor team from defeat and pull victory from the jaws of defeat. Depending on the pallets still up, the loops still up. Not only that but also due to snowballing and doing really well by making good use of their power and happen to make a error of picking up the wrong survivor or not waiting 60 seconds due to wanting to get the game overwith and move onto the next match already, they get punished with blood point lost.

That and why is something that is not against the rules mind you, there is nothing against tunneling or camping is now going to be punished by blood point lost and only killers suffer from a blood point lost but everything survivors can do is fine? That and many skilled players who are well known for playing killer out there, try to avoid tunneling for they know it's a bad idea, due to ds. The only times you might see them tunnel or camp is when they need to get someone out of game quickly, in order to snowball and turn things back around in their favor to possibly win the game, since gens were done quickly, since a killer really starts to snowball once a survivor dies or it's end game, where a killer legit has no where else to go beside staying near their hook in hopes of ensuring one more kill or possibly more if the survivors try to save the hook person rather than escaping. Which getting back to ds, for ds means the chase vs that certain survivor is now longer, giving possibly three other survivors on gens more time to get their objective done and if they are spread out, they can get done very quickly. That and if the survivor has alot of pallets to work with or knows how to loop really well, can waste even more of the killers time. If the killer doesn't drop chase and go after someone else, which is what a experience player would do if a certain chase is taking to long [unless again they really need a kill to shift the tides in their favor], drop it and go else where. For ds used at the right moments can turn a game around. Which is why ds is best saved for late game, since it can expand the chase long enough to get a final gen done, it lead to ds near the exit gates, allowing a survivor who would normally die to escape. Ds if it is meant for anti tunneling and sticking with that for now. It already does it's job at punishing tunneling and snowballing to quickly.

Which this is a video game. At the end of the day both sides will do what logically benefits them to try and win. This is a pvp game. Killers are going to kill survivors, survivors are going to loop the killer and try to get gens done. Be it running four slow downs as killer or a survivor running all the perks they can to counter as many things as possible a killer can do. You might find something a bit dishonorable or scummy, yet at the end of the day. If it's not against the game rules, you can take issue with it being unbalance, broken, op, buggy, poor gameplay design but you finding it distaste is subjective. For here a funny thing about camping and tunneling by the killer? Focus on doing gens. For if they are focusing purely on one survivor, that leaves three of you to hold m1 and get all the gens done. There is only 5 gens to get done. If the one survivor can put a decent enough chase, you can easily plow through the gens by spreading out and focusing them down. Which is how you can punish a killer who camps and tunnels, hold m1 and do your only objective, to make sure the person being chase, camp or tunnel, is not having all of their efforts be for nothing, rather than watching them slowly die on a hook as the killer stares at them. If all gens are done, you can just get out and escape, to deny the killer as many kills as possible rather than feeding them more kills.

  • @BigBrainMegMain said:

So all I have to do is chase a survivor while staring at the floor to cancel the chase, wait 30 seconds and I get my free tunnel?

Sounds good, nothing can go wrong there. Wasn't a killer nerfed to the ground because of that same mechanic?

Hm...I can't remember what killer received a nerf because that mechanic was completely faulty from the start...who....was....it.......

Which a survivor loops the killer for 60 seconds or the killer downs them and waits 60 seconds, currently. Ds wears off, the killer has been targeting them since they were unhooked. The survivor still got tunnel and ds did jack. So this issue you brought up, is the same with current ds. Only it happens to waste more of the killers time currently. The survivor still got tunnel in both cases, their ds failed to do anything. The only difference is one wasted more time than the other.

I'm just over the barrage of rank 1 sweatlord PC killers. And I know they're PC because nobody plays Huntress or Oni like that on console!

For your second post here leads me to still be confused. Pc Huntress being able to aim better? Oni plays slugging and going after the next survivor with fright to logically put their power to good use? Since your statement as a whole relay on someone just knowing or getting lucky and guessing what you mean. Unless your whole point in the first place was the op should not generalized people due to their platform, than fair enough.

    @Warcrafter4

    Here is the thing though.

Why should those ways of using DS not exist? Especially when it was very clear that DS is not strictly an anti-tunneling perk. That it is something part of the community came up with, not the devs.

That's like saying "killers use tunneling as a 'tactic'" when in fact they are only doing it because they want an easy down. You are not restricted in the ways that you can tunnel someone. So you can't remove the uses DS has because you want to believe DS is suppose to be only an anti-tunnel perk and because undeserving killers get stunned, because all you'll be doing is buffing tunneling itself. Right now you don't get penalties for tunneling period.

You want those 'techs' gone because you think an undeserving killer will get DS stunned when the majority that I have played against know fully well I've just been unhooked moments ago and will wait out the few seconds I have left inside a locker and grab me or down me at the locker.

At this point the locker tech is fair game when you can just slug to deny someone their DS. It's a matter of who gets there first. The killer downing the person or the survivor finding a locker to hop in and hope they are grabbed at the right time.

If it's not an anti tunnel perk, what is it meant for then? I think that a question we should ask ourselves, what is the point of ds? Since as it currently stands, if a survivor gets unhooked and is picked up for any reason with in 60 seconds, they stun the killer and get a chance to lengthen a chase. Since it seems unlikely the perk has no reason to exist or there is no logic or reasoning behind it's design. Since there has to be some reason it exist.

  • @NuclearBurrito said:

They consumed 4 toolboxes and used a perk and took 68 seconds worth of time (17*4) to complete a single gen in a way that they can't do to the remaining 4 gens even if they were uninterrupted.

When you stack several effects towards a singular instant of power, it BETTER be powerful.

It's like saying heal speeds are too fast because someone with NOLB, We'll make it Botany and a medkit could heal a Survivor with leader in only a few seconds.

Sure if they could just do that whenever it would be a problem, but they can't, not even close. So it's fine. Like how slow would it need to be to be balanced?

    18 seconds? 19? 20?

At 20 seconds they'd be spending 80 seconds worth of time. Meaning that 4 Survivors working on seperate gens with nothing would be making progress as fast as the Survivors working together and stacking several gen speed increases.

    That's just not right.

Thank you good sir for taking the high road and explaining your reasoning in a civil and logical way. For it is nice and refreshing to see someone trying to explain their reasoning, rather than insulting others, using sarcasm or promoting a in group out group mind set by labeling all of x player base to be y.

I think Otz showed that if you get genrushed early, you need to exert control and play a tad scummy. How did he do that? From what I saw, he moved traps into position and hovered around the hooks. Basically, he was not going to give these people easy hooks and unhooks. They were forced to keep taking hits. If they don't heal or have iron will, it makes them easy targets on rotation. It was rinse and repeat after that.

Secondary note: Also, even though these people hit gens quick, they were caught out time and again. The Feng running in a straight line through the corn. Why would you ever do that unless you are giving your team time to clear hooks? Then there was Bill, you should be looking for traps around vault points and pallets. These are bread and butter for trapper.

TLDR: If you are getting gen rushed as trapper, patrol hooks / trap the vault points and pallets, and catch non loopers doing stupid #########.

    Fair enough.

  • I would like to say thank you to everyone in this thread who is interested in a open and honest debate, rather than playing into the us vs them mind set. So it's refreshing to see some people trying to take the topic serious and debate if it a issue or not, rather than just labeling anyone who has ever touched or played killer as some whiny crybaby [like some seem to be doing] or labeling them all as some evil out group that is wrong simply due to being the out group, without using logic and reason to explain why a certain thing is right or wrong.

  • @thottiepippen said:

Otz controlled the game end to end. If you have a problem with gen speeds, GIT GUD

I'm sorry but saying git gud to someone that is not game journalist does not help at all. If peopel are legit having issues as killer. How does saying git gud help at all? If the issue is they need to learn to play better. How is merely saying git gud and offering no helpful advice at all, useful at all? Since the only thing git gud would do, is just make someone react out of emotion, due to being told to f off, by simply using different wording. If the issue is people need to learn to get better, than spreading knowledge and common tips and advice, would be more useful and helpful to bring people together and lead to more honest talks about balance, rather than saying git gud.

BUT they did bring a 1 time use Pink Addon, it's expected to have the gen done that fast.

I know where you're coming from.

Agreed, I don't understand how killers can complain about this ONE gen popping and still get their 4k.

By killers, do you mean killers in general or only the people that are taking issue with gen speeds?

Deflection when all I'm doing is providing 2 methods to counter gen tapping.

But no one has given me a definition as to WHY Ruin isn't an answer?

The outcry, and whining about gen tapping is beyond me. Overcharge and Ruin.

I brought up Ruin because it's another method to counter gen tapping, but no one wants to use it, no one wants to talk about it. They just come to the forums, complain to the devs in hopes they'll do something about it.

I hope they do fix Overcharge, so they can let you know that your answer to your gen tapping issue is now fixed, and leave it at that.

And I can bet money, killers will still complain about it.

You keep trying to treat all killers as a single group. Promoting a in group out group mind set. Which is not what you should be doing, if we want to have reasonable talks about this. Which is just a annoying thing on these forums. It's getting tiring to see people like you go all killers are bad, all survivors are toxic. Guess what, both killers and survivors whine and talk about things, not due to being survivors or killers but due to being people who play one or both sides, who think for one reason or another certain elements of gameplay are a issue. For every thread someone could bring up to prove killers are crybabies the same could be done for survivors. Since it will be a endless loop that proves nothing. Why? For it just annoy people who play both sides, by using such nonsense and throwing them into these same groups as well. That and i could just take a series of thread made by the same person, using that to prove all survivors are x. Yet if i were to look past they are a survivor, what we would really see is a single person taking issue with these things. Not survivors as a whole. Since i could take a dozen posts by the forum user survivebydaylight and use all the threads and post they make to go all survivors are like x. Yet that would be falsely incorrect. Which would rightfully get other survivors annoy at me, along with people who play both sides and possibly even killer mains with survivor friends. For i try and make out everyone out to be a whiny crybaby. When in reality it's just the work of a single person or maybe a handful of people, who only speak for themselves and not everyone as a whole.

That and Face said it was a minor issue, they never said if they personal think it's a issue that needs to be fix or if's fine as is. Just that it's a minor issue. For all we know, they think it's silly or not really that big of a deal, that it's current fine as is, the reason why they see it as a minor issue and not really a big deal.

  • https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/144989/i-do-it-solo/p1 Oh no a survivor likes a challenge, they must be a killer main. Remember that? Than you were proven wrong. You whine time and time again about how killers in general are often but promote it being ok for survivors to treat killer players like dirt over and over again. Maybe if you truly care about dealing with the issues of rude players and bad sportsman ship. You would take the high ground for once. Oh wait you can't, you would rather take killer players out back and put down like old yeller. You are no better than any of the killers you complain about. You are part of the problem. For you can't see past the labels of killer and survivor, you treat them as the in group vs out group. For you can't see individuals as individuals. You are just as bad as all the bad killers you come across. For you act no better than them.

Which you know what a three gen is? Oh wait you just came in here to insult people and throw shade, so you can act high and mighty with a big fat smug on your face. Any group of experience survivors would not whine and complain about it. They would know how to handle it and get it done or would have known how to avoid it in the first place. For a three gen is not impossible to overcome. If the survivors whining about a three gen, knew how to play the game. They would of learn from great survivors like Ussylis, which Ussylis brings up the term three gen a fair bit. Using lines like, i hope we don't three gen ourselves, oh did we just three gen ourselves? Ussylis is most well known for playing survivor, is well aware of what a three gen is and try to avoid it if at all possible. Experience survivors know what a three gen is and how to avoid it. Maybe if you were not so quick to insult others, you would notice the point of this thread is, inexperience survivors calling something toxic and camping, when that is what a killer does. Keep the survivors off the gens and survivors can also try and stop a three gen from happening in the first place.

  • @PigMainClaudette said:

    Mate, I hear you.

This part of the reason I play Pig, and tend to slug those with RBTs applied. I can never get accused of tunnelling that way, and it applies WAY more pressure.

Unfortunately the devs have called them "legitimate tactics", so there's nothing we can do. But on the other hand, George Lucas calls lightsabres "laser swords" when they have clearly been shown and proven to be plasma, so even a creator can be wrong about their creations.

And if you read this devs, the only people who support hardcore tunnelling and camping in this community are the ones who use it. I get STRATEGIC uses of camping, like say when you've seen two survivors run at you near a hook, or even tunnelling your obsession so that they're on death hook instantly with Save the Best for Last, but just doing it because you can literally ruins games. I don't know how some people can find it fun, and even something like saying that the emblem system is a better guide to a win condition than just "KILL. ALL. SURVIVORS." would massively help alleviate this problem and help with the divide between your balance team and the community.

Lightsabers are part of a world that takes place in a galaxy far far away, a long long time ago. It not our own reality but a clearly different one. Fictional settings have things that work different from our own world all the time. Bleach and how the main character can lose more blood than humanity possible. Gurren Laggan where humanity all basically have green lantern rings. Gundam has giant mecha that would be a bad idea in our own reality but in their it make sense, due to tech they have that we don't, that would take care of the normal issues of a giant mecha being a big fat target. With creators of a fictional world, being more akin to gods of said world. Where it doesn't matter how things work in our reality, if they say magic exist and here is how it works. That how it works. Long as they maintain consistency and the logic makes sense with in context of that setting. Now if they lack any consistency like disney star wars, that is when yeah a creator is wrong and has no idea what they are doing. Since disney has put out books, comics and more pieces of media that conflict one another, while having they all meant to be canon. For otherwise, well everyone could say magic doesn't exist and the creator got something wrong about a fictional elements or metal they made and created for just their own world. If we treated every setting as a one for one of our own reality. When clearly many of them like star wars are not. Like hunter x hunter, it has it's own magic called Nen. Yes science in our reality can prove it doesn't exist but does that make it so the creator got something wrong? When they were to craft their own fictional world and not trying to make a copy paste of our own reality? Since fictional settings follow their own rules, not ours.

Now a better example would be ea battlefield, which base it self off a historical period world war 2 and made the claim it was historical aka following our own reality. Only they got countless historical things wrong and even replaced real life commandos and replace them with two fictional characters they made up, while trying to past this game off as historical. Aka lying to your face. Here they are trying to make a copy of our own reality and got something wrong. That and one of the selling points of something being historical, is to be well historical. So if they get something wrong about our own reality, fair game in this case, due to them making it clear this world is meant to be our own. Which is why Valkyria chronicles can get away with a lot of interesting elements, in a setting that is heavily influence by world war 2. For Valkyria Chronicles never once claimed to be historical and a copy of our own reality.

Of course a fictional story might be a bad example to use next to gameplay for a video game. Since final fantasy, metal gear solid series, both have had moments where their is a cut scene that takes place, where something impossible in terms of the games mechanics happen. Sometimes story and game mechanics are disconnected from one another. Otherwise certain characters that die, would still be alive due to video game mechanics. Since gameplay normally has a lot more to do with stats and numbers. If something is not working as it should, it normally easier to figure out. Which in this case, it more the certain actions of players. Which it might help this topic, if we were to lay out what camping and tunneling means.

Camping would be say the face camping bubba who stares at the person on hook and just stays near it for no other reason than to watch the person die. Tunneling aka tunnel vision, is focusing purely on one survivor, above and beyond any logical reason, even when going after another would benefit the killer more. That and well there is many things that would need to be take into account, when it comes to camping. Tunneling might be a more easy case to make for as to why it just flat out wrong or kills the enjoyment of others. Since unless it a super rare case, of the same survivor running into the killer over and over again or everyone is hiding in lockers afk while only one person does anything, it seems clear as to how one might deal with tunneling. The case of a face camping bubba is well clearly bad. While camping can sometimes be due to well other reasoning, there is always survivors who like to loop the killer, near their hook team mate. Leave marks all over the place or just rush in shouting Leeroy as a whole team, to get the person off the hook. That or running object and look right at the killer, giving away what their plans are aka to unhook a team mate. So camping might be hard to come up with a way to punish without it effecting legit players. Of course, a better idea might be a reward for acting in a sportsman like way, rather than a punishment.

Why is it most of my games i have to be tunnelled out to oblivion

Do i have any toxic meta perks? NO

    was i gen rushing? NO

Was over 2 gens completed whilst i was being hardcore tunnelled and camped? NO

did i have a flashlight? NO

Did i have any item at all? NO

Did i loop the killer? Absolutely not since 80% of them map was basically a dead zone right now *looks at the tumbleweed going past the massive deadzone in swamp*

So why am i constantly being tunnelled out? Oh you may say "oh use antitunnelling perks to stop them then" but the second i use them im instantly classed as 'toxic' but if i dont use them killers shred me to pieces because they dont give a <badword> about how much fun i want to play without toxic meta perks. Stupid killers give survivors literally no choice but to use them if they want to live past the 5 minute mark.

Also with the new update it has definitely made camping and tunnelling more efficient and gens cant get done as fast meaning killers that dont care about pips can just face camp and tunnel without the issue of having all gens pop that fast

I seriously dont know how i even cope on this game playing survivor, ive heard killers all day on the forums complaining on its still soo hard to win games and gen rushing is still a problem, well every survivor game ive had today has ended in a 4k for the killer and when i was playing killer also ive been getting 4ks like childsplay if you cant physically see this game is 1000% in yours favour sorry to say this but you should just play a different game.

Also i want tunnelling and camping to stop being a thing like survivors have now lost instaheals, toolboxes, even the add on nerf and looping and gen speed whist killers can still happily get instadowns and facecamping and hard tunnelling like if survivors can loose all the scummy tactics you killers thought were toxic so can you and lets all face it 80% of all killers saying something is wrong with DS well i think it works perfectly as if you nerf that perk what about those facecampers ah yes their life would be soooooo much easier not having to deal with a perk designed to stop killers from tunnelling your <badword> to the ground when youve done nothing wrong to the killer

Sorry for the long aggressive post i just have alot of built up anger on this game atm to do with the new update and especially all this nooby tunnellers/campers, hopefully you dont take much of it seriously but some points in this are true..

Well i'm not sure how running meta perks would be toxic or rude. Since meta perks are just very useful perks to have. Which is why they are the meta, by proving to be very strong and powerful perks.

Of course gen rushing, sometimes just happens due to the flow of the game and gens just popping fast and survivors not really having anything else to do. So it really just survivors doing their objective.

Flashlight is just a item you can take or find in the game. I would say alot of players are far from being great with flashlights. Not sure how that would be toxic. Now i know some would go, it toxic to blind someone while breaking a pallet but i never really understood that reasoning. Since well blinding a killer does give points. They might be doing it just for the points.

I think some people like to list things as being rude or as the kids these day say toxic, when well it not really a posionious or deadly disease but alright. It just due to them not really going, hmm is this someone really trying to be a massive b or d to me or are they just doing it for it the smart and logical thing to do or maybe they just want more blood points? That and well when it come to this game. Which is why i believe you come across people like this op. The player in question, just made up something that makes perfect logic sense in the video game and in their own mind, twisted it as being rude or just wanted to ruin someone else day for the heck of it. Basically they are well just massive jerks. Who don't seem to realize or maybe they do, that other people are also trying to enjoy the video game.

Of course how to deal with tunneling and camping, to make it less effective. That might be a bit hard to figure out, without it effecting people who play in a legit normal fashion. So alot of talk will be needed here.

  • Well i would like to point out the example of using a fictional setting for video game mechanics, might be rather poor. Since star wars has the force, Vader who medical suit looks like it heavy based on sengoku armor[ might be due to star wars being influenced by hidden fortress in more ways than]. What is most important about a fictional setting, is consistency. That and a setting can have different rules from our own reality. So science might be hard to fully apply to it. Since it often working on different rules. Like say berserk. We have trolls, elves, god hand, giant swords. In the case of Guts, since a young age he was always training with and using a sword that would be oversize for him. The dragonslayer sword he uses, was created due to some rich high born lord holding a contest, to create a blade that slay a dragon. So the blacksmith created one, that could slay a dragon. Only it turn out the blade was not very usable for a normal man and dragons don't exist. With it all coming together and making sense with in the context of that setting, as to why Guts can use the giant blade and why it was created. It has more context to it, than just giant blades are cool. IT all comes together to make perfect sense, with in context of that setting, even if using a giant sword in our own reality might not be the best idea. That and authors or creators tend to be gods of their world, so they have final say over how things work. As long as something is consistence and make sense in their setting, how it works in our real world doesn't matter at all or else we would never have fantasy races, supernatural elements or magic. Since gundam mecha should be a massive big target but due to minovsky particles, something that exist in gundam but not our own reality, it makes the mecha seem like a very good idea, due to things that only exist in that setting. Sure it might be impossible in our own or simply a bad idea, yet in the context of gundam, it's a good idea due to things that only work in that setting. Now if it lacking in consistency and the rules change all the time or simply make no sense, like in rwby or disney star wars. Fair game to point that out. Since that is a legit flaw in the writing. That or if it claims to be historical and get something wrong related to history. Than yeah fair game to point that out. Since well part of the point of being historical is to be historical, not create your own fantasy world.

While video games mechanics are massively different. Since it always effects the player, in some way shape or form, good or bad. It has a often clear real effect. That and failing to notice bugs or other issues, like balancing issues. Can have a clear effect on the player experience and can't be written off as it just being part of that setting's rules or the way things work there. Someone getting something wrong like a certain number, could make a skill way stronger or weaker than it should be. Since you can more easily prove, if a certain mechanic is working as it should or if a skill is to weak or powerful. Like oh yes this thing is very useful or this certain skill is worthless or simply anything else would be a better choice than picking x skill, due to other skills having better effects or bigger pay offs for their usage. Same can be said for mechanics working together, you can show off how poorly or well they work together. So if someone messes up the code and creates a bug, that can be prove to not be working as it should.

While in a fictional setting, something that is not a copy and paste of our own reality aka stuff they got wrong about our reality, well might be well part of the genre or someone playing with an idea. Like gurren lagann and spiral energy, that allows humans in that setting to do many things that would simply be impossible in our own reality, throwing galaxies due to pure will power. Yet makes sense and works, due to being consistence with in that setting, even if science in our reality would say that impossible. For the fun part is, it's not our reality but a totally different world from our own. So using our own science and applying it to that world, might not make alot sense due to the setting following massively different rules from our own reality. That and just due to not following our own reality. Doesn't mean it bad, in fact it could still be very good. Even if science screams at the top of it's lungs this is impossible for a fictional technology they might have no idea how it works, unless the piece of fiction goes into great detail about it. Since something being wrong in a video game, you can clearly point to it and say this is not working as how it should. While something not following our reality 100% in a fictional story, might just be the point and everything is working as it should, due to all the pieces fitting together nicely like a puzzle aka it being good writing.

Now onto the point of this thread. Well, slugging has a clear easy meaning. Put a person into the dying state and leave them. While camping, i seen people have massively different meanings about this. So if we had a clear meaning of it and a face camping buba and not going from gen to gen in your three gen plan. That would be helpful to this point. That and having a clear meaning of tunneling. Since is it tunneling if a survivor runs into the killer over and over again, jump scaring them or just the survivor playing badly? That and well, if these things are a legit plan someone can use effectively. Well the question is, when would this be a effective plan to use or in other words, when would it be ok to use and when would it not be ok to use?
