  • I'd like to post here to mention that I've also encountered the same issue. I was doing old survivor archives, and I happened to reach Adrenaline Overflow (take 1 endurance hit while using Dead Hard), so I grabbed one of my builds that includes DH: a David King build w/ Dead Hard, Adrenaline, Vigil, and Blood Rush. Every time that I got into a match (solo queue survivor), everything would load in just fine, including behavior from other survivors, the killer, etc. But, after about a minute or two, I'd get kicked out of the match with a "dedicated server not responding" error. On some occasions, I'd even be close enough to a survivor or killer to see them just running straight into a wall corner or some terrain for maybe about 15 seconds before the kick-out would happen.

Initially, I didn't know what was affecting it, so I even tried a killer match, but that worked perfectly fine. I was going to try queueing up in a SWF (if I could muster one) to test that, but, as I searched these forums for a recent issue related to "dedicated server", I found this post. It can't be a coincidence that FurzikusMaximus and I were both running the exact same challenge (Adrenaline Overflow from Tome 2 Level 1) and its required perk, Dead Hard.

I'm also on Steam for PC, BTW.

For the moment, I'll just switch to another archive challenge.

UPDATE: I swapped out the archive for another (Poised Performance, from the same level of the same tome - which I couldn't complete w/ my build, but just wanted to test), and kept everything else the same (perks, offering, item/add-ons, character, cosmetics), and I had no disconnect during my match. Combined w/ what FurzikusMaximus said above about swapping out Dead Hard, it seems that it's specifically the combination of the Adrenaline Overflow challenge with the Dead Hard perk that causes the disconnect.

  • I came here (to the suggestions forum) to post something to this effect, but I see that it was already here, so I'm adding. (background: I've actually got several suggestions (but don't want to flood the boards all at once), the most minor of which was moving waking up from Adrenaline to Wake Up!, but the recent developer update moved this suggestion to the top.)

I was more of the mind that, if this effect is going to exist, then why is it on Meg's perk instead of on Quentin's, especially because he's from the same IP (and chapter) as the Nightmare and especially-especially because his perk is literally "Wake Up!" I was just thinking that BHVR should cut and paste this effect's code from Adrenaline to Wake Up! (So, they're arguably giving me half of what I want?)

Of course, from a game design perspective, I do understand not wanting effects that only go against one specific killer. Though, it's also just thematically fun, so I'm a bit torn. I certainly don't think that it would hurt to leave it on Wake Up! After all, the Nightmare is neither among the most-picked killers nor among the post powerful killers, so it's not like anyone would ever run Wake Up! just in case they face him.

I did think up a compromise, though it has its own flaws, but I'll post it here: What if the waking-up effect gets moved from Adrenaline to Wake Up!, and the text gets removed from Adrenaline, but the text doesn't get added to Wake Up!? That way, it's kind of an Easter egg: If you equip Wake Up!, and if you happen to go up against the Nightmare (a big 'if'), and if you happen to survive to see the exit gates powered, and if you also happen to be asleep when that happen, then you get a fun little bonus. The main flaw is that undocumented effects aren't great to have in a game, though that's what pretty much any Easter egg is, so…? I don't know, I just thought that I'd put it out there as another option.

I'm still trying to work out the nature of the monster because it's not perfectly straightforward.

The first teaser says they found Ashley and a weird figure in the woods. It describes Ashley as talking without moving her mouth and all she does is repeat what she said on her phonecall to Tyler. The other figure which is described as twisted then begins mimicking the writer's voice. If it just wanted to kill Ashley, then what was that figure the narrator saw that looked like Ashley alive but acting weirdly? A duplicate, a mimic? If so, what was the other one?

Then there's the teaser with Ryan and his weird scribblings. He went for the run in the woods and then came back acting strange, spending all his free time scribbling those weird drawings, but apparently acting normal when interacted with and denying he was doing anything odd. Did Ryan see something horrible in the woods and came back traumatized? Or is it Ryan at all, has he been replaced with a mimic? If so, what is it drawing and why? It looks like a twisted human face to me.

The last one on my mind is Lisa. One of the last things she says in her texts is that she thought she heard the neighbors and went to check, but writes "it wasn't them anyway". This strikes me as strange because she of the use of "it". This implies there was something out there that she encountered. If mimics are involved, was that actually Lisa writing the messages at the end?

There's a lot of questions raised and it leaves me wondering if any of these people are truly themselves anymore. I'm getting bodysnatcher vibes from a lot of this, not just a simple monster in the woods killing people. I could be overthinking it, of course, but I'm just eager to find out more.

"... One of the last things [that Lisa] says in her texts is that she thought she heard the neighbors and went to check, but writes 'it wasn't them anyway'. This strikes me as strange because...of the use of 'it'. This implies there was something out there that she encountered...."

I don't think that this is a lead. The surrounding context is that she thought that she heard the neighbors and went to check, but it wasn't the neighbors, after all. This sounds like the non-specific "it" that occurs in English, like if someone knocks on the door and the resident calls out "Who is it?" (or similarly "There's a phone call for you."/"Who is it?"), or if someone has (or is having) a baby and someone else asks the parent "Is it a boy or a girl?", or even just "What time is it?" It's just how it's phrased, with no particular meaning behind the use of the neuter pronoun.

Of course, the fact that Lisa was able to respond after checking the neighbors' yard before mysteriously disappearing is still the spooky part, but this could be as simple as the scary thing sneaking into her house while her back was turned and then getting her right after she texted (either by coincidence or by design). It's probably about to be a bad night for the PoV texter, too, if that's the case. Though, I think that the implication was meant to be that Lisa got baited outside a second time by a "voice" from the scary thing (pretending to be the neighbors or her partner w/ the pizza or whatever else) and then died at that time.

  • I came here yesterday (Jan 15) because I started encountering the issue again, and it's still going on today (Jan 16). As with others, I've tried fixing it on my end (resetting modem, etc.), to no avail. And, unfortunately, BHVR's system punishes me for their own disconnects, so I keep having to wait between queue-ups for maybe-full-or-maybe-incomplete matches. :-\
