I've watched OP play trickster, they know what they're talking about.
The changes are objectively a nerf because the ammo econ and "dps" is factually worse and Main Event being available so often is not good design.
To say Trickster's ammo economy is better is just demonstrably false. If we view this purely in terms of health state, 44/6 is a larger number than 44/8 (7.33333333 and 5.5 respectively)

after reading this, i think this is a prime example of a user not understanding any of the changes. so I just briefly talk about some of statements.
Main event is not having identity crisis. one of the changes regarding the new trickster was how ramp up is scaling. previously scaling of ramp up was how many knives you threw in quick succession however because survivor could LOS the trickster, the 0-33% ramp-up was ineffective in most cases because you would almost never throw that many consecutive knives within loops themselves. Now the ramp up is Main Event itself. Instead of having a random 0-33% ramp up, it is flat scale of 66% increased throwing-rate. Since you get to activate it when you want to activate it, you can time when you should get the power-up as opposed old system of throwing-rate which gave you no control over using main event and no control over build-up.
Trickster's default throwing mode is not primary focus on trickster. Trickster's throwing mode is solely there to charge main event. It still is serviceable throwing mode but it is not main focus on his ability. in short, it is build up to his real power, main event. this is why laceration meter remains unchanged. His throwing mode is slightly improved in his buffs and in some ways, you can use Memento blades to improve it to 3.70 TPS which is closer to PTB throwing-rate however you are arbitrary suppose to rely on main event to gain downs. This leads to last point in regards ammo efficiency. Trickster's ammo efficiency base-kit is better than ever minus old Death throes compilation because in previous old trickster, you needed 12 knives worth of ammo to down the survivor. In new trickster, you only need 8 knives because using main event does not consume ammo to get other remaining 8 hits. On average, your about 33% more ammo efficiency if you successful use main event every chase.

TLDR:
6 blades to lacerate, 10 (or even 12) second laceration decay, 15 charges to activate main event, 1/2 charges lost every time you miss a blade whilst its not charged, main event becomes 6 blades a second, base throw rate is 3 blades a second (down from the 3 1/3rd it currently is now), change death throes to proc only if you damage a survivor during main event, remove the combo % addons (the 10 and 15% ones and rework them into charge miss reduction addons).
To better answer the context of 6 blades vs 8 to injure. With current throw rate it takes 2.4 seconds to take a health state. If this were 6 blades it would instead take 1.8 seconds to take a health state, so making this 3 (6/3 being 2 seconds to take a health state) instead means Trickster gets some of his lethality back but also can play more patient and more accurate because current trickster cannot do that to the level of his pre 7.4.0 version.
My changes would make counterplay better also because missing would actually punish the person into not getting Main Event nearly as often.

Main Event would be a better mechanic if it took say, 15 to 20 consecutive hits to activate (blades missed of course making you lose charges, to reward and incentivize accurate players whilst punishing players who lack knife discipline).

I also think the combo mechanic is honestly pointless. It's not explained anywhere in game how it works or what it does and it just serves to make an already problematic main event change even worse.

8 knives to lacerate means that the Trickster changes were closer to a nerf than anything else honestly.
It should be 6 knives to lacerate with a 10 decay (I thought what BHVR intended was to make the counterplay for survivors better, but that's been completely undone), along with a penalty for missing knives before main event is charged, say, 1 to 2 blades lost every time you miss blades, and main event should not be every 8 blades.
It is incredibly unfun and unfair to try to counterplay a main event that is active in almost every single chase and buffing main event at all is still the most baffling change that was made to him honestly.

Thanks all. Glad to hear that for several of you The Trickster feels better after the most recent changes. For those who think he feels in a pretty good spot - is it accurate to say that the biggest pain point / concern is his Add-ons? Specifically that Memento Blades feels like a must-have and/or that the others are too weak to provide much variety?
For those who feel The Trickster still isn't quite how you would want him - I saw a few comments about 8 knives vs. 6 knives, notably around the ammo capacity staying the same even though more knives are needed. I just want to make sure - did I miss any major context around that?

What is the bug?
I posted about it lower down in this thread but the tldr is that the addons are getting way more duration recharge than they should based on how the math is done

Whereas the way i believe it SHOULD work is 0.7/5 which is roughly 0.14 or 14% or so of your duration recharged.
Final comment on this unless a dev or someone else wants or needs more information: I think the idea of death throes pre rework could honestly be made into a basekit function where you have a 1:1 or 1:2 ratio of blades hit in main event granting you some back after you leave main event.
I also do not believe the main event extension mechanic (hitting blades to get extra main event duration whether done during main event or outside of it) actually has a purpose since ME has such a slow throw rate, and this mechanic is also not communicated at all in game anywhere on the HUD or power description, only within patch notes.

Waiting For You Watch and Lucky Blade also seem to be bugged in a very weird way. They apply to a number thats the division of your charges required to get into main event, and the duration its lasts or 8/5, and then the duration increase per blade, or 0.7, is multiplied by 1.6.
8/5=1.6
0.7x1.6=1.12 seconds per knife hit added back on which is roughly 22.4% of 5 seconds
tldr: formula is main event charge/main event duration
Whereas the way i believe it SHOULD work is 0.7/5 which is roughly 0.14 or 14% or so of your duration recharged.

Death Throes is now almost entirely useless also.

I don't even think removing recoil actually helps him, because with 8 blade 10 decay laceration (this was tried in the past and reverted, why is it being tried again?), he's just forced to machine gun blades rather than take his time and have that balance of tap, burst and spray firing.
I'd have kept recoil but made the pattern a standard learnable thing because a rapid fire killer in DBD needs a downside like that to balance out his extremely fast attack playstyle.

Worse lethality, worse main event, nerf of an addon that wasn't the problem (it was the unnecessary main event changes), the removal of 5 knifing, worse ammo economy.
I don't really understand why he was changed honestly, it feels like BHVR just made him worse overall and its a genuine shame.
