I think your suggestions for keys are actually pretty interesting. Would they still open the hatch or just the iron door? I agree with the mori nerfs though.
I think the only nerf keys really need is that only the person with the key can escape through the hatch. That way, if a swf wants to do a hatch game they couldn't bring flashlights or toolboxes.

I definitely agree that Struggle mode should be just holding down a button. Not only because if issues with the game skipping frames and causing you to die by accident, but also to make it more accessible to other players.
Pressing space repeatedly on PC doesn't seem to bad, but when playing on console spamming A repeatedly is extremely fatiguing to your thumbs thanks to the ergonomics of the controller.
I don't have any outstanding issues with my hands and I have to adjust my hands so that I'm pressing the A button with my index or middle finger because my thumb just cannot do a small repetitive motion like that for that long. I can imagine that any person with a twinge of arthritis or carpal tunnel in their hands would be better served by just having a button to hold down. Maybe they could make it optional or adjustable.
I don't think there's any good reason that the struggle mode should stay the way it is. The only thing that is strategic about it is the ability to decide if its best to just die. Especially because of the state its in now, its pretty much impossible for people like me to press the button over and over AND adjust the controller to look around to see what everyone is doing.

It's a casual game. If it was any more casual it would literally be a party game. There's a reason they are changing matchmaking to not go by ranks anymore.
I wasn't really saying that the game isn't casual. Mostly this suggestion was meant to fix some of the issues people have been complaining about by making both sides happy. although to be honest im not really sure how you can classify dbd as casual as the sheer amount of information you have to process really makes it seem more intense than a casual game.
