  • As of the 9.2.2 update, yeah, it still happens. It seems even worse now, as bots that are put into a situation where they have to either, attempt to run by the killer, or run into the trap, they always pick running into the killer now. It's kind of ridiculous at this point. I do programming as a hobby, and I will admit that debugging is a time-consuming process, but a bug like this existing for almost a year now really sucks. Especially since this affects the tutorials, which gives a pretty bad experience to newer players. Please fix this bug eventually!

  • As of the 9.0.0 update, the issue still occurs. This really should be resolved soon since it affects the custom, public, and the two bot tutorial matches. I can't imagine being a new player and being confused about why the bots never step into the traps. I understand that they should avoid some traps, for example, traps the Trapper puts down in a chase, but they shouldn't be aware of traps placed out of audible range. This bug should really be fixed sooner rather than later!

  • As of the 8.7.1 bug fix patch, this issue still occurs. I do hope this will be resolved soon, as it affects both custom and public matches.

  • I'm surprised they didn't add the killer bots they had already made after the first iteration of 2v8 to custom games. Although it won't be the same as playing against a human player, being able to play against the bot would allow players to test out perk combos without worrying about "throwing" the match and affecting the experience of other players. Killer bots would also be great because you would be able to face the killers that tend to be rare to play against, such as Hag. Killer bots would also allow players to get an idea of a killer's counterplay, "although not the same experience as playing against a human player," since you could play against it as much as you want. I do wonder if BHVR would add killer DC bots in the future since there are survivor bots when a survivor DCs, but adding them to custom games would be a net improvement for everyone since only players that want to play against a killer bot would be able to if they choose to.

I would also like to note from a programmer standpoint that bots are also great for testing new features and fixing bugs since their movement can be directly controlled making it easier to replicate bugs so they can be fixed.

  • This bug still occurs in the 8.5.1 bug fix patch. I do hope this is fixed before the next Iteration of 2v8 since bots will be added to help alleviate queue times as needed and is unfun to play against.

Bots have wall hacks anyway so no surprise that they know of traps

@Linkdouken Yes, they do have wall hacks, but the bots used to randomly wander into the beartraps whether it be in chase or looking for a gen to complete. Now they don't and avoid them preferring to run to the edge of the map instead.

As of the 8.5.0 midchapter, this issue still occurs so I decided to do a few test matches on both my PC and Switch and found some interesting things about the bots and this bug.
    1. It doesn't matter where the traps are placed in the loop, they will ALWAYS avoid that loop even if there are no other options available nearby. They seem to run to the edge of the map when this happens.
    2. If the trap is placed in front of a lit hex totem, the bots will usually mindlessly walk into them only if they are not in a chase and moving to cleanse the hex totem. Any other time they will perfectly avoid it
    3. If the bots are put into a situation where traps block all available exits, they react based on whether they are in a chase. If the bot is in a chase ONLY then will they run into the trap. If the bot isn't in a chase, they may disarm the trap or run into it. This is the ONLY time the bots may or may not run into the trap. On all other occasions, they avoid the traps like plague which sucks since some of the fun of playing trapper is catching survivors in traps.
    4. Despite having perfect knowledge of all trap positions, they don't disarm every trap they know about.

Here are the logs from my PC when I tested to see if the bug still occurred:

  • I would like to note that this bug still exists in the 8.4.2 patch and has existed since October, about three months now. I hope this gets resolved soon as playing Trapper against bots is almost the same as being a m1 killer with no power.

  • As of the 8.4.1 patch, this bug still actively occurs. I would hope this will be fixed eventually as it sucks to play against bots as Trapper since the only thing you can do with his power is create dead zones with them. I double-checked and this bug affects the Kill the Bots Tutorial which sucks for new players that do the tutorial since the Trapper's power is partially useless against the bots.

  • As of the 8.4.0 update, bots still have perfect knowledge of bear trap positions. I don't know if this bug affects other trap-based killers.

  • Yep, this is exactly what happens when the bot trapper puts down the bear traps it spawns in with and you get caught by it, all other bear traps in the trial are unaffected by this bug based on my testing.

  • I would also agree that adding the killer bots into custom matches would be a great idea. It would allow newer players to get an idea of the layout of maps without having to focus on the objective/throwing the game. It would also give newer players a chance to understand how certain killer powers work, it's not as good as a human player, but it's better than having no idea at all. Another bonus is allowing newer players an understanding of how some perks work. Currently, in custom matches, newer players can use all available killer perks as killer allowing them to try them out without worrying about MMR or sweaty SWF. Newer survivor players can't do this, making it so that you have to own the character and then spend Bloodpoints in order to get the perk to max level. To top it off the newer player has to throw the game in order to even try out the perk in some cases.

So, BHVR please add the 5 available killer bots to custom matches. It would help a lot of newer players try out perks and maps without the worry of "throwing the game".

I have noticed that this bug only happens to the beartraps the bot trapper starts with. Very rarely will it happen to beartraps the bot picks up and uses.

The bug only seems to happen to "invisible" beartraps placed by the bot. What I mean is, that when the bot places the beartrap it will go through the entire animation of placing it and the beartrap will become stuck to its hand instead of where it was supposed to be placed. Only bots can disarm said beartraps.

Another thing to note is that if the player frees themselves they will be stuck in the trap animation and are unable to do anything, this includes escaping until they are downed and picked up by the trapper bot. It appears that if a bot were to untrap the player this bug is avoided for some reason. Also, only bots are capable of freeing other players, and bots, from these broken beartraps. I will attempt to recreate this bug and send the log file to help resolve this bug.

I managed to get some footage of the bug happening. In the video, you can see that when I attempted to escape the beartrap the progress bar didn't fill at all. Sadly, Jake was nearby and freed me before I could free myself from the broken beartrap I have attached the video and log file.

Note: I put the video in a zip file since the forms don't accept mp4 files.

  • I agree with this since not everyone has friends or family who have the time to help with trying out certain perks. Why don't they just implement the bot used in the Survive With Bots Tutorial? It's not perfect, but will do the job.
