  • Homo present, what do you mean Pyramid Head isn't real we're an hour into Netflix and chill rn and he's giving me this look

    image.png

(this isn't hatespeech, I am in fact very gay and very sweet on Triangle Man)

(y'all covet and you know it)

  • House Rules:

--Rule of Cool/Rule of Funny/Rule of Scary are the holy trinity

--Focus on everyone getting a good slew of BP (go for the chases, try to make sure everyone gets attention, the better time a Killer shows the team the longer and better they'll play with you back)

--DCs earn immediate snap to "wow, that sucked, let's treat the rest of you right" (slow down a little so they can reconfigure strategy, and if it goes poorly for them the last one is getting carried over the threshold/hatched)

--GG/WP/GL all in post-game and compliments on good runs

    But my favorite rule is:

    --PLAY TO CHARACTER.

I'm 33. I grew up in a rural town, before streaming, but in the heyday of dollar VHS rentals. I started watching horror movies in 1997, at the tender, precocious age of 10. I know everyone here, I grew up with them, my sister and I must have watched the local Nightmare on Elm Street 3 to near extinction because it was always a solid bet for a rewatch.

And the truth is, I've always really, really, REALLY wanted to work in a haunted house.

My rank isn't great, but I don't care. I love getting into character and trying to turn the whole map into a haunt. I main the Hag because she pays the bills, but also because there is rare and succulent pleasure in seeding an entire cornfield with traps and watching the impromptu corn maze go off in ping-ponging glory. Amanda is permanently penalized to use utter fairness, and to let players go if they demonstrate their desire to live. The Legion is a dynamo of pure hedonistic rebellion, all bloodlust and destruction, and I adore tapping into Frenzy and back out to scream when things are getting dull.

Like I said, my rank isn't great, but...

I started on Switch, and the controls are not as easy there. I have very poor eyesight, and despite all attempts to maintain the "it's just a game" composure, the truth is, I have pretty severe social anxiety, and it's really easy to imagine the other players getting pissed off--there's a reason I almost never play Survivor. So at one point, during a Switch match with the Legion, when I was just...out-and-out sucking and knowing it, down to two generators, could not find anyone for the absolute life of me. I realized I was getting worked up, and I was by a generator, and I stabbed it a few times, then "screamed" three or four times in a row.

The thing is, I had only meant to refocus, blow off some steam, but the Survivors were watching. And...they got it. One came toward me, and I was afraid they were going to get in my face, but instead they motioned me toward a loop. It was the first chase of the entire round, and the others followed suit, turning it from an embarrassing mess into a high-scoring round for everyone involved (I made sure not to over-hook, the Entity had none of those good souls).

I'm not gonna win a tournament anytime soon. Hell, I probably won't make it to rank 1. I don't care. Those aren't for me, those are for the people who have the devotion and man-hours.

But damn me if I'm not getting my money's worth.

  • Nah, it means you'll get better but in a different way than other people because you'll learn your own way to handle mistakes. Also, you'll be having fun!

    1) Generator pressure, usually referred to as map pressure or pressure in general is the ability to get survivors off of generators. You build up pressure by chasing survivors, hooking, or slugging (downing a survivor but not hooking them). There are many factors that can increase or decrease how effective your pressure is such as perks, killers, skill level, maps, etc. Learning how to build up map pressure is crucial to playing killer at a higher level. But to keep it simple, just hooking and chasing survivors away from generators is pressure. However, it is up to you to build up pressure from the point of your first hook using whatever resources you have (meaning what killer, perks, addons you are using.)

    2) Loops are structures in the map that have windows and/or pallets and can be "looped" around when a survivor is being chased, we call them this because survivors run killers around them to get the most use from them. For example, the common T and L walls. T and L walls are called that because that is exactly what they look like, they are shaped like a T and L with each one having a window. These structures can also be referred to as tiles, which is a chunk of a map. A tile could spawn an area where there is nothing a survivor can use, or it can spawn your average loop that usually consists of 1 window and 1 pallet.

1*) I wish I had been more aggressive when I started, never taking hooks when I have not been touched at all by the killer. Instead, I just hid in a locker when I heard the killer's terror radius lmao I still remember my first solo match against that wraith.

2*) I wish someone had told me how infuriating this game can be sometimes Jesus christ lol. I still get upset while playing this game because of the bs moments that happen and haven't been fixed such as hitboxes. *Also a reminder: Know that people overreact and can be EXTREMELY toxic, my god dude. I think it is hilarious, but if you can't handle it just turn off the endgame chat.

3*) I think you might be overreacting a bit, or overexaggerating. But my suggestion for you would be to memorize map layouts and memorize loop/tile spawns. Also learn how to loop and spin/360 the killer.

Please know that there are many guides you can watch online that will help you with all of the topics discussed here. A list for things to become skilled in include:

    • Learning to loop the killer as survivor
    • Learning to play efficiently as survivor
    • Learn to mindgame/juke as both killer and survivor
    • Learning how to loop against survivors who are looping you as a killer
    • Learn how to create map pressure
    • Learn to play both sides; killer and survivor (you don't have to do this one, but it makes your predictions and game sense better IMO)
    • Learn your selected killer's power and become skilled with it
    • Learn to ignore when salty players tell you to not play a certain way

This is so newbie-friendly, can I upvote you twice or something? You're amazing, thank you so much. Here, take these land shrimp, you deserve 'em.

    Okay, to the nitty gritty:

    1) I'm pretty good at pressure! I'm WAY better Killer than Survivor, working with a team makes me nervous (the social anxiety is real, ehe~). Hag is my easy mode, and she eats generators alive. Pyramid Head is my fandom fave and between trapping gennies and Trail of Torment, I get plenty of setback emblems and the occasional Judgement Day, which is always fun. I'm becoming very proficient in Pig, but I worry I might be...possibly too good, honestly? I don't know etiquette on which Killers are OP (besides Ghostface (*Ghostface*)), I know she's invisible, and I don't want to...going way sideways here, but I don't want to show up with a Mewtwo to a Magikarp fight, you know? I ran Freddy once, perkless, and my God, the man is canon hard to fox, it's a beautiful thing as horror but as a haunt-host it's not super fair...should I look up a tier list or something?

    2) I figured it was specific pathing but these videosssssss you are a saint and a scholar, friend name of Yords ;O; This should help with (sorry to break order)--

3*) Okay, so not literally every chase, but it might as well be |,D I have yet to stun a single Killer with a pallet drop. I did manage to almost assassinate a Bill by dropping one between me, him, and Ghostface when a chase converged, but the Killer was good enough to take my sheepishly following them to the hook as "please God let me live that down and do me instead". My chase game is, like, mad low, dude. I clutch no pearls, it's cool, I gotta learn this stuff~

(oh God Bill I am still so sorry you came back for me too)

1*) Very noted! I absolutely go for the complete freeze in the locker when the Radius is up, although it's a lot more viable a strategy with Heather--she can really keep an eye on absolutely everyone from a distance, I'm loving that. I definitely need to get my exit plan sorted, though. I can't resist running for the hook if no one's going for it, and then it's auto-slug 70% of the time because I try to break away and can't. I'm gonna learn these loops with the fervor that I refused to learn math with (ง •̀_•́)ง

2*) Hahahaaaaah, true story, I first played (by the Steam free weekend mark) in...2018, but after two matches someone said "Are you trying to be bad at the game on purpose" and I melted into the earth, stared wistfully from a difference, only picked it up when my old L4D/2 buddy rec'd it last month. It wasn't even a sick burn, it was quite possibly an honest question, because *I chose Huntress to start with*. I...am feeling much more confident now,, Hag pays the BILLS. The worst I've gotten this go-round are ragequits and (if I may quote) "camping noob pig ur beard smells like cheese". I have no beard, nor cheese, but they had a point about my proximity to the hooks. Also I was in fact the Pig. Considering I was driven away from L4D2 in the 00's by getting openly sexually harassed on mic by every Bob, Bill, and Bundy that crossed my path, I'll take Dead By Daylight any and EVERY day <3

3*) (as covered above, videos queued up as we speak)

God, I cannot thank you enough, seriously. I don't wanna backseat-mod, but this is sticky-worthy stuff--it's super accessible, easy to understand written instructions on the most basic level. I'M VERY EXCITED FOR THIS.

    notmove.jpg

You are fabulous, thank you so much!

  • I'm like a month in and I hope you are ready for the gauntlet my friend

Let's start with those two, generator pressure and loops. I keep hearing about loops and wish to know of them, please and thank you!

    Three questions of my own:

    1) What do you do now you wish you had done differently when starting?

    2) In a similar vein, something you wish someone had told you when you started?

    3) For the love of Glob how the bad word do I not IMMEDIATELY get slugged in a Chase, I think I may just be overthinking it (lots of zigging and zagging to no avail and a knife in the back)

    thankyouthing.png

  • A bit of a necropost, but it answered my question, so bumping for other players who might be wondering <3

  • I hope you get one working for you, hand problems are no joke and wiggu wiggu can in fact be a strain. On Switch it's mapped to spinning the left stick, and anyone who played OG Mario Party can tell how hard that is on the thumbs. I switch to Killer when my left hand starts aching 8X

  • @OtakuFreak

I haven't played Demogorgon yet, but because you made me ugly honk laugh with the BAAAAAH thing, burning question on point 4: Does "jumper" in this case denote a sweater or a dress? It's regional, clarification needed, please and thank you.

  • I've been playing rabidly for a month now, with randos only, Killer and Survivor both but favoring Killer because Killer fun, and can say this:

--The best-scoring matches I have are with people who play the game like it is tag.

It's been a lot of data, most matches are honestly great but I had one night in particular where 4-5 games had a ragequit each, followed by a *double ragequit*, and it was frustrating for everyone involved. I also have been camped few times, which was frustrating for everyone involved--including, although they didn't realize it, the camper, because everyone soft-ragequit by letting them just hook them and *everyone got low BP as a result*.

I know I'm coming from outside of the community, but since I am coming, objectively, from outside of the community: The problem isn't on the Killer or the Survivors. It's on the fact that the game *just plays better* when everyone knows there's some room to make mistakes, because mistakes are *rewarded by the game*. Every hook, BP for everyone. Every hook release, BP for everyone. Healing is BP. Knockdowns are BP. And somewhere in there, holy #########, you're playing a game that's really fun, and something in the brain flips over to "wow, this is a great match" and everyone gets on their A game. No ragequits, long Chases, awesome replays, memorable matches.

And since everyone is playing their best, no one can say the rank drops aren't fair.

All I can do, personally, is try to play my best game, and I do. I don't camp, I try to get into the head of the individual Killer and play in a way that'd be canonical to them and fun to play against (ex: The Pig will slug characters, Trap them, and then let them wriggle free, because Saw is about fairness, but also because there is nothing more fun than chasing 4 Trapped survivors around the Jigsaw boxes, that's the fun part of the Pig), I do my best to support my team, including letting the Entity claim me if I screw the pooch and a rescue would jeopardize them.

If it's not a tournament, if you're not aiming for top Rank or for a prize, and you're not having fun, then what on earth is even the point?

  • Don't defend brands too much but since this is railing on another brand: The only good Silent Hill game after Team Silent disbanded (they did 1-4) was PT and they killed it. They refuse to release the Silent Hill games on any platform except the HD remasters on PSNow, where you have to either subscribe to the service or pay one hundred U S D to buy the bundle of two games (rarely chosen because the voice remasters were hated by so many people). We got a hint that there might be a new game coming out and it turned out to be a Silent Hill themed slots machine, in an encapsulation of their filthy "We own your wallet" rep that not even we, the old guard, could have imagined them stooping to.

I am as livid over the skin prices as much as anyone, but I'm pretty sure that "anyone" includes Behavior. I would LOVE to see how much they had to pay for the rights, God knows if they're even breaking even.

Anyway if you go into tutorial mode for Survivors, walk backwards around the generator, and then miss three skill checks while repairing it, you should hear a sound to indicate you've unlocked Godmode and can give yourself unlimited BP. But don't do that immediately, it also unlocks the ice wall and you can get the key, and that unlocks Banjo and Kazooie as (respectively) Survivor and Killer. Also you can see Mario naked but I never got why people wanted to see Mario naked I MEAN very real code do this now

  • This idea is great, would make an awesome contest, and...I have ideas but not snappy names for them so I'll be back

  • Further: Chron would appear to be at 7:00 PST (six and a half hours from this post). Rush the last few hours if you got it!

  • Jason is stuck because of the Friday the 13th game, I think, but would definitely love to see Candyman, especially with the reboot coming soon. I think they'd see this better in Feedback if you wanted to address the devs directly, which you might not but...man someone should definitely suggest Candyman, yeah~

Not familiar with the other series except for (I assume) Jeepers Creepers. The Creeper would be great, except...well, for one the director is Roman Polanski, and for the other his name is already The Creeper. Down for a Killer card reading The Creeper (The Creeper), not as down for supporting Polanski. It was an incredible movie and it'd be an incredible Killer, but I don't want a damned cent of my money in his hands.

I believe most Switch users would be happy with 30 fps the entire time. No lag with anything. I know I would.

    @Quol said:

I play exclusively on switch these days since I'm a sucker for handheld gaming. The biggest problem with switch dbd is the frame rate drops and it's not a simple "Oh I am playing at 54 fps my life is over." I'm talking 15-20 fps during skill checks.

This and this. I played exclusively docked the first few days, and when I went to handheld I went "oh, wow, I don't actually suck as Survivor" because suddenly I wasn't whiffing every Skill Check--and I mean EVERY Skill Check. I managed the tutorial checks with some difficulty, but I was not fun to have on a team before I figured out that it's specifically Joy-Con input lag causing issues. I'm playing handheld Survivor and docked Killer for now, I would very happily play 30fps input-optimized over...look, we KNOW over here in Switchland that the processors are not the draw, we agreed to this. Adjustment for lag time, slightly more forgiving SC if Switch is detected as native platform, that would be amazing. Graphics are whatever 8V

  • I just wrote a friggin SCREED about how I had my first Freddy match and I am doing a full 180 on my opinion here, but I think the forum ate it. OP, your idea is AWESOME now I know the mechanics are in place. Konami still probably not gonna let us do it, sadly 8<

I hope we get more Silent Hill content beside cosmetics. Konami, if you read these threads, even if it a is very slim chance, please allow Behavior to do more Silent Hill maps.

I want the Town first and foremost, but I also am daydreaming of the jump between Woodside Apartments to Not Woodside Apartments It's Been A Hot Second as a Vault. Especially since that leads right into the safe/toilet room and a Hex Totem in The Toilet would be so utterly nostalgic.

(Bonus points if Heather refuses to touch it)

  • Okay, so I had my first Freddy match and I rescind like 80% of this, I had no idea it was based so strongly on an in-game mechanic that DOES exist. Freddy isn't on Switch so I had to wait for someone to use him and uhhhhh I think I get the problem...it was fun as all HELL, I loved it in theory, but. It was 4k/BP a survivor and 15k/bp for Freddy. Thassnotfun.

Since apparently the tech is totally there for it, I fully approve this idea...except that Pyramid Head really is a good, fun character, and Freddy is *super broken*.

But since I had a lot of fun playing with Freddy, and actually got pretty damned scared...

If Freddy's build EITHER had Freddy visible outside of the Dreamworld (it's the Chase! we're not getting any Chase bloodpoints!) OR it had some other ameliorating BP booster (more BP for Dream Management?), it would be the awesome game of tag that it was clearly intended to be.

And it'd be mega rad to play and I KNOW it's Konami damn their eyes but I would love to see a Silent Hill variant too.

Full 180, if Konami ever lets us do it please please PLEASE give us a modified Freddy build for Silent Hill, I love PH just the way he is but listen. Listen Konami, I will give you money for this. I don't say that easily these days, but I would willingly buy your Silent Hill products on purpose if you're willing to play ball.

(They're never willing to play ball |,3)

In the meantime, sorry for speaking without knowing the full scene, and aside from thinking PH is great as-is, I apologize, OP, you have something great here <3

Don't get me wrong, I want the Town first and foremost, but can you imagine if they did Woodside and had the fire escape jump as a Vault? I would be in hog heaven. Especially since That ######### Toilet is right there and they could put a Hex Totem in it.

(One that Cheryl refuses to touch, as per canon)

    (I miss you Team Silent)

  • One of the reasons I finally decided to buy DBD was because I've been a Silent Hill megafan since '03, and, uhhh...this would be REALLY HARD to code. I'm a starting game dev and what you're asking is just far and beyond anything that any Killer can do, or should. If I may please explain...

--Massive changes to the environment would be incredibly showy powers compared to the other Killers. Unless it was an across-the-board change, it'd unbalance the game terribly. (I haven't played as Freddy so I can't speak on Dreamworld, but isn't that...I have not heard about players liking Freddy much? I am curious to play as him because it sounds fun, but the one tier listing I checked ranked Freddy as "JUST DON'T" and I can only imagine that's because of imbalance because it's Freddy aaa)

--True fact: The real reason it's snowing and foggy (ash, rather, but "snow") in Silent Hill is because Team Silent realized that fog would mean a shorter draw distance, and thus allow objects and enemies to be obscured until the player gets much closer--it was a bid to save processing power, but it became iconic for the series. However, we already have The Dark Mist. Perhaps there could be a customization option via Perk to turn the Mist into a more familiar fog,...but it could potentially cause lag, succeeding in the opposite of what it's intended for! But it's an interesting concept, I'd love to see what they think of this one <3

--Survivors using mirrors to go in and out of two worlds, on the other hand, is just...not supported by the current code. That would require running two identical maps in the same place, with cosmetics shifting dramatically between them, in real time, and I can only imagine what that would do to load time/lag. What might be cool is a Perk that causes *individual player perception* to shift when hit/Hexed, but again, that's a lot of coding and load time, and anyway...we only were able to use mirrors in 0rigins and it was one of the most complained about features for a reason. Not a good look on the standard canon of "Town/God controls Other/Misty Side". Would love to see some hallucinations or Easter eggs, turn the Cages of Atonement at Midwich into the Watchers from SH1 kinda thing, but I doubt they're gonna invest (they literally have to invest, after all, game development costs money and this is an $8 DLC) in making that intricate of a system.

----That having been said, I would LOVE to see good ol' Misty Silent Hill itself as a map. Midwich Elementary is amazing, and I'd happily buy more SH maps--Brookhaven, bits of the the town proper, get some apartments or either hospital in there, yessss I would pay for this.

------...if Konami wasn't such a dog in the manger on their properties. It's surprising we got anything at all, they have never given Silent Hill the love it deserves 8/

--As far as gameplay goes, it took 17 years to step out of this Pyramid Head costume into DBD's, and it was well worth the wait, at least to me. He's a tricky killer, and I'd love to see his AoE reworked a little (maybe just a scoonch wider?), but he's to spec. Pyramid Head moves at the pace Pyramid Head likes, his slow Great Knife drag is iconic but when he pursues, he PURSUES, as noted in the Spoiler of Spoiler at the elevator with Spoiler. The Judgment Trails alert you to survivors while you're in knife-scrape mode, and PH seems really effective in overcoming survivors during Chases by simply relentlessly pursuing them. It's a canon build!

I admittedly thought this was a thread about playing in true Pyramid Head style, I should make another thread for that |,D

Here's hoping we get more SH content! If Konami lets us. Seriously, they...they are not great about properties. Sigh.

Anyway it depends if you're on which East Coast you're on. If it's Aus, then I'm always down for having other people to play with, even if other games are taking up my time at the moment.

It's 5:45 PM here, international clock says you're 17 hours...earlier? Later? Anyway, I'd love to play if you'd have me sometime--l saw you championing for fun experience v. leaderboards on another thread and I clutch no pearls about which side I'm on 8V I'm the couch co-op doof-around guy.

My sister once lulled me into a false sense of security in Goldeneye by running around a pillar endlessly while quacking IRL, then, when I shrugged and joined her, turned around and annihilated me.

It was, in the language of the old gods, epic.

Hope I can catch you around, yeah <3

ETA: Source: KC Green is word-perfect adapting Carlo Collodi's Pinocchio, and it is good

  • Yeah! I tend to die first in Survivor matches still, so I spectate and try to pick up tech by watching how the rest of the team adapts. I love catching replays so I'll be editing them together and posting players caught being cool on...I guess Youtube if I have to, I'm not fond of the damned thing, poor algorithm's bloated on clickbait, but I feel like it's good for the community to support players being sportsmanlike.

I saw someone mention no one gets scared by the Killer because the game has been out so long, and while I'm not easily scared, I do have a long-running phobia of elephants (thank you Disney), and not being aware of That Clown Skin had me genuinely noping out from start to grisly end in a recent match. Terror only intensified as they hooked me, knocked down the survivor trying to rescue, and to my yet-newbie horror, bit out what I assumed to be the victim's heart and ate it.

(Finding out it was a finger when I was Memento Mori'd myself a half minute later *did not help thank you*,,)

It was an intense as HEKK match, they Memento'd three of us, downed the last, and...carried them directly to the Hatch.

I may be new, but I know the Offerings. I don't know the Perks as much, but chances are that player sacrificed not just an iridescent token but 1/4 an Ebony Memento Mori as sheer sportsman swag, and I love them for it.

This game is my haunted house this year, on account of The Unpleasantness, and people acting like proper haunt workers gives me life. And death. But mostly life. ...and death. Lotta death. Good on 'em.

  • I've had a couple KICKIN RADICOOL(tm) matches today, one as Hag with a Survivor team who engaged with me openly and another where the Carter was. An absolute angel of devils, I actually came on here hoping I could find a way to find them out of game because they not only spared me as the last Survivor, but dragged me all the way to the Exit. ...twice. I instigated a Chase for them the first time and got lost, so I let them slug me and honestly was dying by embarrassment anyway, they could've hooked me and I would have given it to them, but they dropped me directly on the Hatch. It's not the only time I've seen it, either, there are some real dapper Dans in the community <3

Hey, wanna trade friend codes? I'm new and trying to collect some people who will put up with my learning curve, aheh...I'm a Silent Hill fan since '03 and if your name is at all Don't Starve related that's my primary fandom. No pressure, mind, I'm. A MUCH better killer than survivor.

    (So far 8V)
