  • Actually no, I'm not. This is the one patch that finally made me quit.

Yes, it was somewhat cathartic to finally be able to continuously slam survivors who months have had too many defensive tools at their disposal, except it didn't come because the devs intentionally or otherwise broke balance, but because the game is an absolute bugged mess. The first two or three matches having hyper lunge and broken hitboxes were fun, but it's just so miserable for survivors who are doing their best to actually win the damn game.

And it also brought some pain for the killers. Frustrated survivors and bullies now also have a ton of exploits in the broken maps with invisible barriers only they can go trough, zones where they can propel themselves into otherwise impossible terrain, and of course the new The Game map (at this point I'm not kidding when saying whomever designed that thing should be reprimanded in some way).

Not to mention, genrushing is harder to counter than ever for the average killer. I thought the Ruin/Undying nerf wouldn't be that bad but even if I agree it needed a nerf, they grinded it into dust.

The fact that we have a PTB and that every single piece of feedback offered during testing period is absolutely ignored just makes all of the above worse.

  • The queues are long because almost no one wants to play killer. The fun the survivors have on a match is on expense of the killer; if you kill them all then you're called a bunch of slurs, if you don't kill anyone, then prepare for harassment in the match and outside the match too.

And before you say "Not all survivors are that way", no, not all of them, but it's common enough that most people just don't bother anymore.

The pacing of the game and the power usage of many killers depends on the survivors entirely The survivors are not fighting against you as it was supposed to be; instead, it's you fighting against the builds of the survivors.

  • I was playing Executioner against a team of red SFW people. I was chasing a Claudette, who was the worst out of the bunch, and by the time I hooked her, 3 gens were gone. The rest of the match were the four of them preventing me from hitting Claudette, flashlight clicking, teabagging, using emotes, healing in my face and then teabagging, etc.

During the endgame collapse, many of them were opening lockers and vaulting windows near an entrance to further make it worse; all of them were Injuried tho, they didn't bother healing during EGC.

So, since I was near, I used PotD to get at least one of them but oh surprise, I ended up hitting BOTH the vaulter and the locker opener. I grab the Dwight that had been taunting me the most during the game and hook him, one of them goes for the save while the other tries to heal the downed survivor. I prevent the save by hitting the rescuer, I go back to the downed survivor, and the one who was trying to heal her just runs away as the collapse timer was about to run out. Dwight dies on hook, I manage to grab the rescuer and hook her, while the other one managed to crawl away.

I got "Entity Displeased" but hey, at least I got two...

  • The number of times slugging everyone works as a strategy at purple/red ranks is pretty much 50/50. It's a risky strategy with perks like Unbreakable being meta nowadays, it can make you lose more time than playing normally, and it can revert your snowball.

Plus it's boring for both Killers and Survivors.

The fact that some killers like Twins have to rely on slugging an entire team to stay relevant is a signal of a larger problem within the game's design. Giving you a way to deal with slugging besides unbreakable would be further encouraging the dev team to ignore the underlying issues within the game and putting a band-aid on top of it.

  • Games do not end in 4 minutes because no one has DS...

  • Because at least in my region, night time is when the red rank SWF sweat squads prowl. I'm a low purple-green rank killer that more often than not gets paired with 1-2 rank coordinated squads with ttv on their names...

  • I know many people swear by Rotten Fields, but the Swamp and the Stranger Things map are absolutely the worst.

The Swamp is a Blendette's paradise, and seeing how she's a very popular character in my region (Brazil) that just makes it even worse. Yeah, corn makes it hard to chase but at least the map is lit up as #########. Swamp is very dark, big, with lots of cover for survivors and stupid jungle gyms.

Research Lab is a giant jungle gym on itself with absolutely boring thematic and design. It's claustrophobic, navigation is confusing and generators are somehow harder to defend in this map than in other larger indoor maps.

  • I honestly only AFK when it's evident I have absolutely 0 chance of winning. I'm a purple rank killer that sometimes has to face Rank 1 SWFs; it's not even a challenge, it's downright not fun when you have a team of 4 heavily coordinated, skilled people teabagging you, flashlight clicking and pulling out stunts. And before you say "SFWs are not that hard to beat!", what is your experience and rank with the game? How many hours have you put in? Which killers you use?

I don't AFK all the time though, if the match is against strong but otherwise good survivors, I go in, suck up my defeat, and say GG. It's fun to play against skilled and sportmanlike people, it's not against bullies.

  • Honestly, I was expecting them to follow track record and completely wreck Undying when I read about a nerf incoming.

But... I'm pleasantly surprised. It doesn't breaks the Ruin + Undying combo to an unusable degree, it makes the anti-genrush build still viable without making it outright unfun and frustrating for Survivors. Plus, the other Hex buffs are welcome.

  • I'll just tell you this: the average killerr will go invisible on Spirit, won't be able to see #########, and lose the chase. She's a high-skill ceiling killer and she's only truly annoying when going against red rank killers that actually know how to mindgame and chase without visual aid.

Now, you make her as "visible" as Wraith up close and she loses that. You'd have to give her something else to make up for it, and trust me: you don't want that.

  • As a killer main, every time this happens, I get mixed feelings. On one hand, getting a hit is always satisfying. On the other hand, I really don't feel I deserve that hit, and specially, the survivor that was doing its best to avoid it.

  • You haven't seen the brazilian DbD survivor community. I'm a killer main and I've had to go days without playing just to rest from all the toxicity I face while playing.

Worst part, most aren't even bad players, they're GOOD players who love to shove it in your face and then use all sort of slurs in the end game lobby.

There's not a SINGLE game I've played where I don't get people taunting me at the gate whenever someone manages to escape, NOT A SINGLE ONE.

  • "n my opinion, this could 100% be done without compensating Killers in any way, shape or form, since many are already very well equipped to deal with premades."

Out of the stuff I disagree with you, this has to be probably the one that deserves a quotation the most.

There's a very small sample of the killer population with enough skill to take on SWF groups and an even smaller amount of killers that are strong enough to be used by an average player and do decent enough against said groups.

  • Stop using DS and toolboxes above brown rarity and we're even.

  • I started playing some weeks after launch, but I mostly played Survivor. Whenever I played Killer it was Wraith all the way to go and I used to have a blast, but NEVER made it past rank 17. Stopped playing when Legion released.

I came back when Executioner came out because of the Silent Hill hype (he's one of those killers I love but just absolutely suck with), and I've been playing Killer since then with survivor mixed in. Fun fact: playing killer made me a better survivor, but playing survivor somehow never made me a better killer XD

I play on PC by the way.

I'll take the chance to say: I've been trying all the killers that I own, took them all the way to 40 (except for my after mentioned mains), and the ones I've found I enjoy the most are Pig, Executioner, Legion, Billy and Wraith. That said, I absolutely suck using every and each one of them and I have no idea which of those I should start learning first. My experience with those killers goes like this:

-Pig: Can only really play her if I have add ons that reduce trap timer and make it harder for survivors to find Jigsaw boxes, otherwise I get ONE kill in average. I've noticed she's specially strong inside Lery's Memorial Institute, Midwich and Gideon, elsewhere I can't do anything. I suck at using her Ambush on loops, but then again, I'm not even good at normal looping.

-Executioner: I don't even know what I'm doing :) Using Punishment to teleport survivors to your personal hooks feels like shooting yourself in the leg, and I'm terrible at making people run into my hazards and using the long range attack. It's a matter of not really understanding what's the game plan of this guy.

-Billy: I just use the chainsaw to traverse the map because I can't for the love of everything good hit people with it. I end up playing a normal M1 killer with a motorcycle instead of a chainsaw.

-Wraith: I made a topic asking for help on him because he was my first "love", but it further made me realize that he's too add-on reliant and even then my only good matches with him have been with baby survivors.

-Legion: He's the one I do the best with, but I've noticed something: if the survivors spawn spread through the map or I don't manage to hit them all within the first generator repair, it's hard to win.

Also, I checked out the videos you guys linked, I've been trying to learn the suggested strategies for looping, thanks!

  • Well, I'm really having a horrible time playing anything else... I mean, I am constantly running into the following now:

-It's not just a matter of getting rid of the weakest link on the team: usually the weakest link is way better than me anyways. I've been matched against ranks 1s CONSTANTLY.

-Been running into a bunch of SWF. The level of coordination between players is just too much to be simple PUGs.

-My most common mistake as of late: chasing people off generators and then losing sight of all of them in seconds, unable to keep up with any chase and giving them time to regroup.

It's just like anything I've learnt over hours is just vanishing or something. It just keeps happening.

  • @Warcrafter4 said:

Freddy being easy shouldn't be a deterrent for you to learn other but he will also help you learn the basics without being forced into an auto loss(Unlike what a lot of people want).

That being said a lot of the base killers are either weak or are extremely new player unfriendly.

Trapper/Billy both are very new player unfriendly despite how easy they seem.

Wraith is just plain weak without add-ons and doesn't really teach you the basics by playing him.

Also Nurse/Huntress are just hard to learn period with skills that don't transfer to other characters.

Two killers I'd suggest you learn to play for the basics are Legion(Fair warning legion ranks up insanely fast) and Doctor as they both have tracking and reward you for good power use without making you skip looping entirely(Docs anti loop is good but is often overrated) while also having good add ons.

They also have decent perks for several other killers(Discordance/Iron maiden(For huntress) and M&A).

Damn... I was reading the thread and decided to go for Wraith... XD I have to say, I find Billy quite hard to use when compared to Leatherface. I use his chainsaw to traverse the map but actually using it to get hits during chases is hard.

I've read your comments and I thank you all for your advice :) Sadly I can't really record my gameplay because I don't own a gaming PC and running recording software makes most stuff unplayable. I can play DBD in low settings good enough though. Whenever I can use my wife's PC then I'll record and gladly upload!

  • To the people who recommended me Spirit: what makes her easier to learn? I just bought her and she seems to be Nurse levels of hard to use, games as her are over very quickly, never in my favor; chasing people I can't see isn't much good when I can barely end chases I can see XD :/ I've been doing quite good with Freddy lately but I agree with the lot of you who say he's quite boring. Thanks for aiding me understand the snares though <3

  • Hmmm, I really like Nightmare, but I'm having problems using him right, usually I kill 1 person at most, and as mentioned, the rest are lucky strikes with NOED.

I put Snares on loops, but I have the feeling I'm not doing it right, as I usually put them nearby Pallets and 100% of the time they drop it and I have to break it. I feel I'm not putting enough pressure as Nightmare.

I'm using NOED, Thrilling Tremors, Franklin's Demise and Blood Warden, for lack of better Perks. I have most of the Meta perks available, except those of Spirit, Shape, Demo and Ghostface (TT not included). I have 0 luck trying to get PGTW for the build, and I think I might be getting paired often against SWFs (I play in Latin American servers btw) as there's just no way randoms can be THIS coordinated against all of my efforts.

  • Hey there again! I've been reading all your comments and I'm very grateful for your advice, and it's nice to see another clown main ;w;

I'm at work so my reply will be short. I had a match today after reading your advice, never really tried slugging before. I picked Nightmare and went for the "slug, hook, chase" approach and my God, it worked. Survivors repaired 4 gens and I had to learn who to slug and who to hook, but in the end I got the four of them :)

I'll try to elaborate more on my builds later, but again, thanks for all the advice!

  • Wow, those are some helpful replies, much appreciated!

Regarding what you guys have told me, I'm quite bad at mind games, it's one of the things I'm trying to improve. I get nervous when chasing a survivor and I think it's noticeable, as they have all the time in the world to taunt me.

I play in Latin America South servers, and the playstyle here is much more altruistic than I remember; most of the time I'm being swarmed by survivors body blocking and disarming hooks, coordinating to rush gens, and more often than not, they start the match together.

Since ending chases quick is one of my issues, I found Clown to be a killer that helped me in that regard; however I can totally see how he falls off later. I've been told that The Nightmare is one of the strongest killers and isn't that hard to play, but honestly, I can't seem to grasp how to do with him since putting survivors into the Dream World seems to barely affect them (I know, I know it might just be me).

I'd say my three biggest failures as a killer are...

-Not ending chases soon because of lack of mindgames/nervousness/inability to use my powers/etc.

-Not knowing when to patrol a hooked survivor and when to patrol generators. It usually happens that I hook, I know which gen is being repaired, and by the time I'm on my way, the generator is repaired and the survivor is unhooked. If I patrol the Survivor, usually two gens get fixed and by the time I'm looking for other survivors, the gate is open or at least other gen is repaired.

-Still not being able to find the killer that completely clicks with me, I often bounce from killer to killer. I own everything but Legion, Pig, Ghostface, Demo, Shape and Spirit. The killers which I haven't unlocked the teachables for are Oni, Nurse, Huntress, Deathslinger, Trapper, Wraith and Nightmare, mostly because they are super low level (below 20)
