Was DBD released as early access before full release on 14th June 2016?

I was having a discussion with the wife about when we started playing DBD which prompted me to check my steam purchase/gift history.

Turns out i was gifted the game on the 12th june 2016 however upon a quick google the official release date of DBD was the 14th june 2016.

So im very confused how i was able to own the game before release unless there was early access back in the day.

Also turns out i didn't touch the game for nearly 4 years because it wouldnt run on my PC at the time lol

    According to wikipedia, the closed Beta started at the end of May:

    It is very likely that you were able to purchase the game before it was fully released. The first time I heard of DBD was at the 8th of June 2016 when a Youtuber I watched played it, so it was 100% accessible before the 14th of June.

    Although well before I started playing, I distinctly recall that there was a time where not even Wraith and Billy had been introduced yet.

    Although the game did ship with those three.

    Its funny because only The Trapper was made available to play in the beta, but due to a bug you could still play as both Hillbilly or Wraith. Wasn't consistent and I forgot exactly how to do it, but im sure theres a few clips floatin around

    Potentially when i was brought it as a gift it was a pre purchase then which would make sense if they had a closed beta.
    I honestly don't even remember the game from 2016. I think i played like 2 matches before i got frustrated with my PC not running it correctly.
