Stuff I should do

I’m getting the game soon, what should I do the second I get it?

  • Navigate to the in-game store and find the option to redeem a code.

    Enter the following:

    DBD10BIRTHDAY

You'll have a ton of Bloodpoints (your main currency) to get you going.

Depends if you want to win a lot or lose a lot. If you like winning a lot you play killer role. Any killer will do. But if you want a hardcore challenge that tests your skills and requires everything you have to overcome the odds…survivor role is the best choice.

Do not listen to this guy its a troll account

Being brand new I wouldn't recommend playing killer till you learn the basics of the game. My buddy actually started recently and I got him on survivor (I would recommend you play Meg for a bit as she is really good to learn the game with while you get bloodpoints.) If you hear the Terror Radius getting closer to you then run away and hide. The most important thing when getting into this game is to play with friends and not care about winning or losing because you will lose A LOT at the start. If you don't have friends who own the game feel free to try killer after a bit of survivor gameplay, or do looking for groups. (LFG)

Side note: the game is a bit grindy so be prepared.

  • Please do not derail the topic as this person simply wanted to know what to do as a new player and not which side is better than the other

Its not derailed. I told them the truth to start on killer if they want it easy. You challenged this assertion and I provided data proving you are wrong. Case closed.

    oooookay

  • Decide which role typically interests you more (playing both is strongly recommended if you wanna get good). Get familiar with how the game works and level up some of the starter survivor blood webs to at least Prestige 1 so you can access specific perks on all characters you own.

Look up some Otzdarva YouTube videos for beginners and new players, he'll teach you way more than any in-game tutorial.

Lastly don't worry about winning or losing. Just play have a good time and you'll improve with experience like everyone else.

At the very least do what this guy said Otzdarva is a great resource for newer players. However make sure to not fully abide by what content creators say about the game as you should play it how you want to. I also forgot to add in my earlier comment to not look at end game chat as most of the time it will be flat out toxicity. If you are on console you don't have to deal with it though.

In no universe is a 60%+ kill rate across all MMR even slightly survivor-sided.

yes the very top kill rates are over 60% in part as stated by the devs and others part of that like with vecna is you can play 100 games and never see 1 vecna. and so when you play against killers you have no experience with yes the kill rates will be higher.

there are 41 killers. you posted a picture with 5.

i should not and will not need to break down to you like its 3rd grade the problems with your post.

Most kill rates are over 60% and all of them over 50%.

Both Vecnas are far more common than 1%.

I only posted the most recent data. We have years of Official data including when kill rates were broken down per killer character and all of them were killer-sided at both broad and high MMR. Even Trapper, commonly cited as "low tier", had a very respectable 57% kill rate.

Yes, learning to counter 41 unique killers is far more challenging than facing the same survivor mechanics every match.

The game is heavily killer sided and yes the data confirms this beyond a reasonable doubt.

    60% is the target, tho.

It has been for years now.

Yes, the target is a killer-sided balance. The issue is killer mains gaslight and pretend its still survivor-sided.

How is that relevant to OP tho

  • Its not this is a troll account, they also have another account named killermaingod which is the exact same conversations but for killers.

They asked what to do and I said if you want easy experience play killer first. If you want hardcore experience where you get massacred, play survivor.

You must consider that the Killer role is much harder to get into as a beginner.

The Official kill rates demonstrate otherwise. Even most killer mains agree that low MMR killers dominate pub matches. Not that we should trust what killer main group think believes.

Does it? The official killrates cover all MMR levels. We're talking bottom MMR here, starting level. The official stats simply cannot be representative of that level of play, by simple virtue of sample size.

the kill rates need to be over 50 and really around the 60% mark for which the most part they are though there are killers that are underperforming bassed off the 60% thats sought.

the game NEEDS to be killer sided on kill rates for killer. thats why the target rate is 60% and a good chunk of killers fall below the rate they should be achieving by the devs own internal design aspirations.

you may think you have an argument in your favor but you dont.

So you admit the game is killer-sided. Congratulations. Most killer mains are too entitled to concede this. They want to simultaneously be the power role and the victim.

i never made a claim otherwise. I only claimed that your post with the statistics is bad and doesnt make the claim you think its making and it still doesnt because you dont seem to(or dont want to) understand how game design works and what is needed for the game to function well and that is not with 1 player going against 4 players to feel week and not be stronger than the others. a 50% or lower kill rate is not good and is indicitive of problems for that killer. and lo and behold there are killers around the 50% kill rate mark but of course you only showed of the list of the top killers which is only 5 out of 41.

if you want to be taken seriously you should not engage in discussion in this way.

idk why you feel you have to be tribalistic. your not a caveman in 4000 bce

  • Play 1 game as killer and one game as survivor. In the end game results take time looking at everyones perks.

Repeat until you don't want to play anymore.

  • First tips that came to my mind are:

    • Enable the visual Terror Radius: It gives you a visual indicator that a Killer is approaching — denoted by a heart beating in the centre of your character's chest. You can find it by clicking on the cog icon in the bottom left of the main menu, navigating to the "Acessibility" tab, and then flipping "Heartbeat Visual Support" to on.
    • Check your Survivor keybinds: Cog icon > "Controls" tab > "Survivor" subheading. Make sure "Pick up Item/Interactions" and "Actions" are bound to separate keys. On controller, I believe they're the same key by default which creates problems when trying to perform interactions where multiple prompts are available (e.g. healing under a pallet, or unhooking next to an item).
    • Survivors are mostly cosmetic so you can play who you want, although the order you level up your Survivors will influence what perks you have available. Levelling up Meg for Sprint Burst is generally a good place to start if you're not sure.
