Bloodweb Still Needs Improvement.
The bloodweb rework has been out for a while now, and the issues that were obvious on day 1 of the PTB are still present and frustrating as ever.
As most people know, level 40-49 have 3 perks, with up to 2 possible to obtain, and level 50 webs have 4 perks with 2 obtainable.
The issues arise because the Entity's behaviour on the web has not been altered to suit this change:
- Taking any perk will instantly remove another and start the Entity consuming nodes.
- Taking any 5 nodes will instantly remove a perk and start the Entity consuming nodes.
What this means is that player choice is largely removed as a factor on the higher tier bloodwebs.
From level 40+ you obtain 1 perk of your choosing, and then MIGHT get a second perk, with no choice as to which one.
As seen below, it is possible to move to perks as quickly as possible and still lose 2 perks from a level 40 web.
https://i.imgur.com/SOXHdWw.jpgThis should simply not be an option.
From 50+, a perk is taken when you take your first, meaning you are left with 2 options instead of 3 which often involves having the second perk you desire being deleted without any way to work around it.
The behaviour should be changed:
At levels 40+:
- Taking 2 perks on the bloodweb will instantly cause the Entity to remove ALL OTHER PERKS on the web and start its progression.
- Taking any 6 nodes will cause the Entity to remove a perk and start the Entity consuming nodes.
This would allow players to gain a legitimate benefit from the new bloodweb system, and collect the perks they want from the bloodweb, rather than the current system which forces players to collect garbage perks at high levels.
While the new system reduces the sheer number of levels to collect EVERY perk at max tier, it provides almost no benefit to players leveling characters with any other goal.

+1. I am so tired of talking about how the perk acquisition system is so broken in this game.
I'm just frustrated that of the infinite ways they could have reduced the grind, they picked the one way that seems as malicious as possible, to dangle what you want in front of you then make it impossible.
Yes. I mean, don't get me wrong, it IS a major QoL improvement if you're just trying to unlock all perks on a character, and offering 4 perk choices does give you a way higher chance of acquiring something that you want.
It doesn't do ANYTHING to help new players unlock perks faster, though. That is the biggest defect in the perk system.
Basically the only reduced grind is if your goal is "I want every perk maxed out on one character." For most people that means you already put 200 levels into getting a character to P3-50, and it cuts out 75 or so levels after that, it never helps new players to progress, and it doesn't help most normal players get a decent working build together.
I made a thread awhile ago about how bad the grind was as well. One of my main issues was that it didn't fix the actual problem. The grind is horrendous for newbs... something that needs fixed.
