Wouldn't removing great skillchecks from generators be enough to slow game enough to not use ruin?

Great skill checks are concept without any sense honestly. You are repairing generator and you did something randomly that was far better than anything else to progress repairs. This has 0 sense to me.

And what i mean by title is removing great skill checks but only from normal repairs that are not affected by perks (hex:ruin is kinda only one now that i can think of). This would normalize game pace between all ranks both for killers and survivors.

Great skill checks in that scenario would be only in case where perk/offering/addon should make repairing generators more troublesome - so in case of almighty hex:ruin.

This would need some tweaks to perks, bloodpoints rewards and maybe some addons. Perks like unnerving presence would make great skill checks appear and place them randomly on segment for normal skill checks. Same for Ruin - this would make appear great skill checks and place them randomly on normal skill check section.

I believe this would make game more team-play oriented, since great skill checks makes players with better timing faster to end generators repairs. More time to do generators overall would force survivors to play with team to leave map alive. And this could even make aura oriented perks more viable.

There always will be someone who would use ruin anyway, but it would make some options for killers that don't like this perk but they are forced to slow game.

Even if it is not the greatest idea overall, i hope it will poke someone to think about something better.

Thank you for reading.

  • You probably wouldn't see a difference. If great skill checks were making a significant boost to gen speed, people would be blowing through gens with ruin. Reason being that if enough people are good enough at hitting great skill checks that they hit enough to get any significant amount of extra gen speed then they're able to just blow through ruin without caring

Each great skill check is a 2% bonus. At base repair speed thats only about 1.6 seconds. If you get 5 skill checks and hit all greats then it only saves a little less than 10 seconds. And most people aren't going to be hitting great skill checks that consistently.

  • If your idea to stop gen-rushing is to remove the only slightly skill-based part of the objective, then your idea needs to take a turn in another direction. Great skill checks separate bad players from good players. Even if it's just in a small way. It makes the objective a little less mind-numbing and a little more involved.
