Why are there no totems on the edges of a map?

The totem spawns has been debated for some time. I must say I’m a bit tired of my totem going down without any effort on the survivors’ part. I’m talking about the totems that spawn right next to a gen or right next to a survivor. So if the issue is that the spawns will be too predictable if they’re not allowed by a gen, why don’t we allow them to be spawned around the edges of a map? That means you would remove areas around gens as possible totem spawns, but add a number of spots behind clutter in the edges. That way, the survivors need to remove themselves from gens and actively search in order to find the totems.

  • yes there is, in swamp

  • Yes, swamp and lery’s. They also work well with regards to totems

  • Just adding a totem spot in a corner on those dreaded Z-walls at the edge of the map could be interesting.

Lery's and Swamp is a bit different as they have more "unique" spots by the edges, like behind the vaultable log and Lery's is an indoor map where you actually spend more time in the corners than usual a lot of the time.

  • It's just irritating to look for totems on swamp due to the humongous map size and simply because the totems can spawn on almost any of the outer edge tiles as well as the tiles in the middle of the map.

@PolarBear that’s the point. You shouldn’t be able to find it too easily. Swamp works well.

  • @oxygen exactly my thought!
