Supernatural Chapter Concept — Sam & Dean, New Map and an Optional Impala Endgame Escape
Sam and Dean Winchester have already been suggested many times as potential Dead by Daylight Survivors.
Vehicle escapes aren't a new idea either. Friday the 13th: The Game famously used keys, fuel and vehicles as alternative ways to escape.
But I think Supernatural could be the perfect opportunity to adapt that idea to DBD without changing or replacing its core gameplay loop.
Sam, Dean and a Supernatural Map
The chapter could introduce Sam and Dean Winchester as two Survivors, alongside a map inspired by the atmosphere of the earlier seasons of Supernatural:
An isolated American road, a dark forest, a roadside diner, perhaps a gas station and a parking lot.
And parked somewhere on that map would obviously be Dean's iconic 1967 Chevrolet Impala — “Baby.”
Except the Impala wouldn't just be scenery.
The Impala: An Optional Endgame Escape
The most important part of this concept is simple:
Survivors would still have to complete all 5 generators.
Nothing about the normal DBD gameplay loop would change. Exit Gates and the Hatch would continue to work normally.
Only after all 5 generators are completed would the Impala become available as an additional, map-specific escape option.
Survivors could simply open the Exit Gates as usual, or voluntarily stay in the Trial longer and take additional risks to escape using the Impala.
That distinction is important: the Impala wouldn't help Survivors reach the endgame faster. It would give them a reason to risk staying after they've already reached it.
Keys, Fuel and Skill Checks
During the endgame, Survivors attempting the Impala escape could have to find:
- the car keys
- fuel
The concept is obviously inspired by Friday the 13th, but adapted to DBD rather than replacing generators with vehicle objectives.
Once everything is ready, a Survivor could enter the driver's seat and attempt to start the Impala using Skill Checks.
Failing could stall the engine, trigger a Loud Noise Notification or potentially damage the key. Great Skill Checks could perhaps slightly speed up the process.
The exact timings and penalties would obviously be for Behaviour to balance.
And one essential feature:
The horn needs to work.
1–4 Survivors — And a Real Choice
The Impala could carry between one and four Survivors.
Nobody would be required to wait for the entire team.
The driver decides when to leave.
That could create a fun risk/reward decision, especially in Solo Queue:
Do you leave now and secure your escape, or wait for the injured Survivor running toward the car with the Killer behind them?
Waiting should be dangerous.
Survivors inside the Impala would not be safe until the actual escape animation begins. The Killer could interrupt the starting process and potentially pull the driver or passengers from the vehicle, perhaps by opening a door or smashing a window.
So imagine three Survivors sitting in the Impala while the fourth runs toward them with the Killer right behind.
Do you wait... or leave them behind?
What About Camping the Impala?
That's where keeping the Exit Gates matters.
If the Killer decides to camp the Impala, Survivors can simply abandon the idea and use the normal Exit Gates.
Likewise, Survivors who become too determined to escape with the car could throw away an otherwise easy escape and give the Killer another opportunity.
The Impala should be more fun and spectacular than the Exit Gates — not necessarily stronger.
No Free Driving
Once the engine starts and the driver chooses to leave, the escape would become a fully scripted animation.
No free driving. This is still Dead by Daylight, not GTA.
The doors close, the headlights turn on, the engine roars and the Impala drives down the road before disappearing into the Fog.
And if the music rights could ever be secured...
“Carry On Wayward Son” beginning as the Impala escapes would be an incredible final touch.
Why I Think It Could Work
This wouldn't turn DBD into Friday the 13th.
It wouldn't replace generators, Exit Gates or the Hatch.
The entire core gameplay loop remains intact.
It simply adds an optional risk/reward objective once Survivors have already completed their main objective.
After so many years of primarily escaping through Gates or the Hatch, I think a unique map-specific escape could be a fun way to experiment with something new without fundamentally changing DBD.
And Supernatural seems like the perfect license to try it.
Sam + Dean + a Supernatural map + the Impala as an optional endgame escape could turn a simple collaboration into a real event.
One last thought
If players enjoyed the concept, map-specific endgame escapes could potentially be explored with other licenses in the future.
Scooby-Doo is an obvious example: a map featuring the Mystery Machine could have its own version of an optional vehicle escape, with completely different objectives and balancing.
The point wouldn't be to put cars everywhere.
It would be to occasionally give special maps their own memorable way to leave the Trial.
The Impala wouldn't replace Dead by Daylight's gameplay. It would simply give Survivors an optional reason to risk staying in the Trial after they've already earned the opportunity to escape.
Comments
That would be great! I want this too. I wanted to write this concept up as a suggestion myself, with a very similar idea regarding the map and the Impala as an Easter egg, but you beat me to it xD I would like to write down a few of my own ideas for this:
- The Survivors (The Team & Skins): Dean Winchester and Sam Winchester serve as the base Survivors. To complete the iconic squad, Castiel and Crowley (an absolute fan favorite!) arrive as Legendary Skins. Castiel acts as a skin for Sam, and Crowley as a skin for Dean, ensuring they reuse the exact same skeleton rigs for zero code risk.
- The Map: The Cursed Highway (Compact & Balanced Layout):
- The Map Style: The structural layout directly mirrors highly successful, balanced maps like Greenville Square or Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria. It focuses on one single, high-value central main building surrounded by balanced outdoor loops.
- The Main Building (The Diner): The central structure of the map is a creepy, dimly lit, abandoned roadside diner. This serves as the main building with unique vaults, generator spawns, and tight indoor loops.
- The Killer Shack (The Forest Cabin): The classic Killer Shack is visually reskinned as a small, dilapidated wooden cabin hidden in the dense forest surrounding the diner.
- The Ultimate Easter Egg: Parked right outside on the diner's dusty gravel parking lot, players can find Dean’s iconic 1967 Chevrolet Impala "Baby" with its headlights dimly glowing through the fog. It serves as a static map asset, requiring zero driving physics.
I really like the idea of Castiel and Crowley too!
I personally thought of Bobby and Rufus first because they're both human hunters, so they naturally fit the Survivor role and the logic of a Trial. But if the licensing allows it, Castiel and Crowley would absolutely be great Legendary Outfits as well.
And it's really cool that you imagined the map in such a similar way! I initially pictured the Impala as part of the environment too, before thinking about how a Friday the 13th-inspired vehicle escape could be adapted without changing DBD's core gameplay. That's basically how the whole endgame concept came together. :)
Ive been begging for supernatural in dbd for so long. And if it were to be a map, I actually think that the bunker would be an amazing choice too. And best part about it, the bunker has a garage where you could leave. The garage itself could be an exit gate, and you get alot more bloodpoints if you take the impala with you!
As for skins, theres so many good ones I can think of. Early season skins, FBI Sam and Dean, Lucifer white suit sam, Michael Dean, Deans leather jacket, sams hoodie, mark of cain dean (or demon dean). And maybe for Sams prestige head piece, hid mouth is covered in blood (from drinking demon blood).
As for Legendaries theres so many good options. Castiel, Crowley, Bobby Singer, Rowena, John, Mary, Charlie. GOSH I hope behavior adds the chapter one day
