QoL Idea : Add Local Match Replays/Recordings Available During EGC
Here is a clever idea I had just a moment ago- though I am sure that the idea is not one that I uniquely have come up with myself.
At the end of each match, during the EGC, players should have the option to download a recording of their own POV from that match. The recording would only need to be made available after the match and downloaded to the player's local system, meaning BHVR wouldn't need to permanently store large amounts of video data on its servers.
This would have several benefits:
- Improve gameplay: Players could review their matches and identify mistakes or areas to improve.
- Save clips: Players could easily capture interesting or memorable moments without third-party recording software.
- Report cheaters: A recording could provide useful visual evidence when reporting suspicious players.
- Reduce reliance on third-party software: Players would have a built-in way to record their matches.
This could be a relatively simple QoL feature that provides both competitive and community benefits without requiring BHVR to maintain a massive archive of match recordings.
Comments
For context - this would need to be a client sided recording, for logistical reasons. (IE if X killer got a hit on Y survivor b/c of ping, the recording wouldnt show a wonky hit, or other reasons, etc).
With the current system in place, the devs have already said there will be no replays coming as many, many players have requested a replay system. This was due to the limitations of their code I believe. However, in the most recent AMA, the answer slightly changed to something like "a replay system wouldn't be possible until after the coding rehaul." So who knows, next year after the coding / graphics overhaul update comes through, maybe BHVR will be able to start working on a replay system then.
