Original Killer Concept] The Shifter – Valentine Walker | Identity Swap Disguise Power
Movement Speed: 4.6 m/s
Terror Radius: 32 metres
Height: Tall
Weapon: The Deboning Dagger
Power: Identity Swap
Press the Ability Button to swap appearances with a random living Survivor for 20 seconds. Press the Ability Button again to end the effect prematurely.
While Identity Swap is active:
- The swapped Survivor cannot be attacked or interacted with.
- Your Movement Speed is reduced to 4.0 m/s.
- Whenever you perform an Attack or an Interaction, Killer Instinct reveals all Survivors within 24 metres. Triggering Killer Instinct immediately terminates Identity Swap.
- Killer Instinct will not trigger on the swapped Survivor, nor Survivors in the Dying State.
Ultra Rare Add-ons
1. Stolen Retaliation
The Survivor you swapped with may press the Ability Button to unleash a Special Attack.
- Hitting another Survivor injures them and inflicts Deep Wound.
- Hitting you instantly ends Identity Swap, doubles the Power’s cooldown, and prevents you from attacking for 10 seconds after Identity Swap expires.
2. Unescapable Masquerade
You cannot manually end Identity Swap. All Survivors are inflicted with Exposed after the identity exchange takes place.
Note: Pressing the Ability Button only triggers the identity exchange rule listed below.
Unique Perks
Perk 1 – Predatory Urge
When you initiate a Chase, the time required to gain your first tier of Bloodlust is reduced by 5 / 10 / 15 seconds. Has a cooldown of 15 seconds.
Perk 2 – Torment’s Echo
The Auras of other Survivors within 8 / 16 / 24 metres of a hooked Survivor are revealed to you. This effect lingers for 2 seconds after the hooked Survivor is unhooked or moves outside the radius.
Perk 3 – Collapse
When a Survivor is put into the Dying State, both Exit Gates are blocked for 3 / 5 / 7 seconds. Has a cooldown of 20 seconds.
Supplementary Notes
1. You exchange forms with one random living Survivor; you take the Survivor’s appearance, and the selected Survivor takes your Killer appearance.
2. For Ultra Rare Add-on 2: Re-pressing the Ability Button only executes the identity exchange described in Note 1.
3. While disguised as a Survivor:
You retain all Killer interactions. You additionally gain access to Survivor emotes: Wave, Point, Crouch, Survivor window vaults and Survivor pallet vaults. You cannot drop pallets.
Lore Backstory (Dead by Daylight Forum Standard Narrative Tone)
Valentine Walker was once the youngest lead criminal profiler in the Paris Police Prefecture. He possessed an almost supernatural gift: when he stood at a crime scene and gazed upon a victim’s final face, he became that person. He could smell every thread of terror the victim endured before death, hear the pitch of their bones as they fractured, and even replicate precisely the way they walked, the curve of their lips as they spoke.
This talent made him unrivaled inside interrogation rooms. He did not question suspects — he embodied the victims. He wept in their voices, stared at the killers through their eyes. No murderer could remain silent beneath the gaze of someone who seemed to rise from the dead.
What the police did not know, however, was that Valentine’s impersonations had long outgrown the demands of his job. Late at night, he roamed Paris’ shadowed alleyways alone, mimicking the gaits of those who had perished: the limping prostitute, the hunched elderly woman, the skipping child. He savoured every flicker of sympathy and lowered guard from passersby, memorizing the line of their necks as they brushed past him.
Within his mind, he endlessly pondered a question: If the hunter dons the skin of its prey, will the prey still run?
The answer revealed itself in the case of the Opera House Butcher.
The serial killer blended into crowds after theatre performances, stalking lone women. Valentine called in no surveillance teams, alerted no one. He simply pulled on an old overcoat, lowered his hat, and stepped into the back alley alone, moving with the tipsy, carefree, unsuspecting stride documented in the victim files.
The killer came, just as predicted.
As the Butcher raised his deboning dagger, Valentine turned his head and stared at him with a face that was not his own — contorted in raw, unbridled terror. It was a composite of every victim’s features, perfected through hundreds of hours of practice before mirrors.
The Butcher froze. He could not comprehend why this supposed prey held the faint glimmer of a smile in their eyes.
That night, the hunter became the hunted. Using the killer’s own blade, Valentine carried out his first true hunt. As the mist rolled in, swallowing the bloodstained alley and dragging it into the Entity’s realm, Valentine wiped the blade clean with a handkerchief, a satisfied smile lingering on his lips.
The Entity never creates new desires. It merely saw the conviction already rooted deep within Valentine: the perfect hunt begins when the prey believes you are one of them.
What it granted him was mastery of this sublime deception.

Design Intent
This concept is intended to serve as a starting point for discussion. New Killers are always exciting, yet most existing designs are merely variations of established archetypes: teleportation, ranged tools, stealth, and mobility dashes, just different combinations of these core elements.
Two Killers inspired this creation: The Dredge’s Nightfall and The Unknown’s clones. They share a key trait: the Killer receives almost no meaningful feedback on how these abilities affect Survivors.
Therefore, I designed this character whose power avoids all those common mechanics. At first glance, its description is as straightforward as The Trapper’s: you disguise yourself as a Survivor, while forcing a Survivor to take your Killer form.
Naturally, this mechanic brings countless edge-case scenarios, and real implementation would be far more complex than the written description suggests.
For instance: What happens if the Killer enters a Locker while Identity Swap expires? A simple solution would be triggering a locker exit animation as the power terminates. What if the swapped Survivor is hiding inside a Locker? Similar to Friendship’s Bond, lockers could remain unlocked, or the Survivor could be forced out.
There are dozens more scenarios like these. Viable, satisfying solutions exist for every case — there are simply far too many exceptions to list.
Regarding coordinated Survivor teams: I have noted this in Clarification 1, though it may not stand out clearly. This mechanic is not a direct one-to-one swap between two selected players. Instead, each form is assigned randomly.

Comments
This section has been translated from my original Chinese draft. I noticed the 25-second ability cooldown was missing in the prior write-up.
