Forum feedback: adjust post sinking

Currently there's a setting in place that causes any OP with 5 more downvotes than upvotes to stop bumping. I get why this was put into place. Awhile back we had some unpleasant incidents, and we regulary have pointless rage outs that don't deserve anyone's attention, but this setting is far too rigid.

This is from a current post:

Three pages of active conversation and divided opinons in the votes (which isn't a bad thing), and yet the post is sinking.

If there isn't some way to adjust this ratio for posts with more engagement (mutiple pages or high vote counts), could we maybe have mods manually turn the sink off on active posts? It's a shame to have these sort of posts disappear while far less interesting ones stay afloat solely because they aren't spicy enough for the system to kick in.

more broadly downvotes do not get used constructively on this forum in general imo and probably just ought to be removed. they are very very consistently used as a 'i disagree' button
