Veteran opinions on health update

  • Hey all! 2018+ concurrent player here, sharing my opinions on some very exciting changes for suggestions I've heard across the community over the course of many years. It's finally coming and very soon! Let's dive in.
  • Surrender State: This is a very welcome short term solution to doomed trials. We have yet to see the exact implementation so this leads to a few questions. For the survivors, will there be a voting system? Will this lead to solo queue being in a worse state e.g. group surrender ignoring perks such as Deliverance or Unbreakable? For the killers, will this see a net decrease in bloodpoints? In the situation a team disconnects and the killer is forced into a bot lobby I recommend an option akin to a forced end game collapse rather than a simple return to lobby. This is to prevent edge cases of wasted offerings/add ons while potentially going for a difficult or otherwise uninteresting archive challenge e.g. orange glyphs/sacrifices.
  • Gamma adjustments: This is a very welcome and highly requested feature. However, there are many lighting variants across all realms so a single adjustment is unlikely to create consistently desirable results. The short term solution would be to have the slider in an easily accessible pause menu. The best case scenario would be realm presets.
  • Go Next Prevention: Simply put this is terrifying. A lot to unpack here. Expecting trial participants to go through perceived doomed trials will lower already questionable morale of some players. The players that were eager to give up or disconnect will not be swayed by additional bloodpoints as they are already forfeiting them by leaving early. Whatever first iteration of this should be incredibly lenient. There are many reasons players would choose to go next, such as disliking the killers power, the killswitch not being applied to current serious issues, or even extreme phobias.
  • ^^^ I agree that this is a serious epidemic and while the cause is noble it feels like in some part going next is a necessary evil. I recommend giving survivors the option to "ban" 1 killer from matching against them. This would eliminate edge cases of truly undesirable matches and will be more likely to have the system only affect players with bad sportsmanship.
  • ^^^ The emblem incentives are a very welcome addition especially in conjunction with matchmaking incentives. Bloodpoints aren't consistently attractive for all players, but I predict this will be a welcome addition in conjunction with Bulk Spending. I believe bloodpoint gains should be looked at across the board buffing survivors and equalizing killers. E.g. shared bloodpoints across the team so everyone can score higher, and some killers score 100 points while others score 1000 in deviousness. Categories like Survival and Sacrifice cannot currently even reach cap without perks or offerings in normal trials.
  • Extreme Hiding: More active afk Crows is nice, but at first glance this incentivizes slugging for the 4k. Excessive slugging at this state should allow early surrender, power the gates, or spawn additional hatches. Otherwise we are back to square one with a fresh coat of paint for the slugging epidemic. Losing collision on third crow is a welcome change but with one question, is excessive bodyblocking no longer a bannable offense? Was trapping and holding a survivor during endgame collapse not bannable? I suppose it would not be in the killers favor but this has been against the rules for years.
  • Map Offerings: Not an ultimately bad but hopefully temporary change. The main pain points with this new design is neutering the impact of the offering for no tangible benefit. This change creates a new pain point for returning or new players who are unable to consistently or intentionally experience certain maps/realms especially when going for particularly difficult achievements such as Outbreak Breakout which would require minimum 20 trials of RPD. This is disappointing considering we have around 60 maps in the game. I would hope for a longer term solution to map offerings, but I think in the short term they could be converted into a sort of celebratory offering. Keep the chance at 20% for now but include a stackable bloodpoint bonus of 100% for all players. This would create a celebration of the realm and a tangible secondary benefit. This would also address grind issues short term as many players would suddenly have plenty of bloodpoints to share. Lastly, this change would trivialize the recently highly praised rarity conversion of the Sacrificial Ward.
  • Spawn Rules: I am indifferent to this change. We have yet to see the exact impact of this change, but I imagine it's a buff to Legion and Discordance enjoyers.
  • Bot Detection: A simple universal "Yay" for and from all players.
  • Bulk Spending: Very exciting on paper but there's been many suggested options and we don't know which or how many directions are being taken here. Whether this becomes priority spend by rarity, specific consumables, gift packages, prestige skips or something else entirely we don't know. Whatever happens will no doubt be an improvement in any capacity.
  • Quests: Not a ton to say here, just general quality of life changes. My hope for quests is daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, and lifetime challenges. Theres a lot to play with here so I'm curious just how creative it becomes. Since its being included as an update to the archives I'd like to see something included for rift 200+ rewards as the 5k bonus is so minimal surely we can add something extra for anyone willing to grind that far or further.
  • Loadout previews: My one gripe with loadouts is that it specifies your personal perks. Having a counter or at least a warning that you've run out of an add on/offering would be appreciated. It's also disappointing that this is only your personal character, as lobby wide perk previews have been requested for years and was even featured in the mobile game. Hopefully just the starting iteration of a more fleshed out UI.
  • That's everything! Thanks for reading! Sorry for the formatting gore, I'm experiencing issues on mobile.
