My main issues with Dead by Daylight
Hello everyone, this will be longer post than usual and I would like to talk about my current feelings on this game.
First, I think the game overall is pretty mixed. The core is very fun, chasing, hooking, running away, doing objective to escape, using all kinds of powers and with very big cast of characters that keeps on growing. However, the playerbase and balance of this game is what puts it heavy down for me. I would also like to add that I love this game, playing it since 2016 (Around Nurse chapter) and it is by far the most game I ever played and spend most energy and time into.
1) Maps are unbalanced and map offerings ruin the fun
Map offerings can pretty much ruin your match. No metter which side you play, when the other side gets huge advantage just by selecting a good map offering for their side it is pretty bad and some players even just quit or go AFK because of that. It's very annoying to be send to Bahdam or Garden of "Joy" and knowing you probably allready lost. The core problem is of course the maps themselfs being unbalanced, but lets face it, with map pool keep on growing, going back and reworking the current map pool and making it better takes a lot of time, so I think the best solution would be just rework or remove map offerings entirely. They have way too big impact on both roles.
2) Balancing powers and perks takes too long and too little
Usualy when a problematic combo or new meta perk rises and one side has a clear problem with it or at least large portion of players have problem with it, it takes months to solve it, and sometimes it involves just tweeking few numbers down. I don't understand this and it's irritating that some perk(s) can stay in very and clear too strong sight and being actively talked about and being ignored for half a year or more. It is very frustraiting and beyond understanding. It takes a low priority.
Another thing is, when some killers got update and some base kit buffs (I love these btw, I wish they were more offten), usualy these buffs are simply not enough in my opinion. Example: Pig, gets improvements to dash cool but without dash add-ons that enhance it (faster speed and charge time) its still pretty weak and even with these add-ons the dash isn't something amazing. Ghostface got nice buffs but again, nothing that super enhanced him or something you would put him like a tier or two in tierlist. Most killer changes do improve them, so that's a plus however not in a significant ratio that would make them more viable againts good Survivors and put them in line of other strong (A tier) killers. They don't even reach B tier (mid) with these buffs many times.
I would also like to add that most of the perks in the game you will never see in your matches. Majority of perks are below avarage and there is no reason why would any side run them unless they want to trow the game or play purely for fun. Buffing weak perks takes also very long time for some reason even tho many perks could simply be much better by just buffing their numbers. I think sometimes developers are too shy to buff something and too safe and don't give enough numbers to make things significantly better, this is also true for killer buff powers.
Freddy and Trapper are one of the weakest killers imo, yet they are ignored. Trapper gets like few tiny buffs per year for many years now and he is still one of the worst killers in the game. Freddy needs help but developers just ignore him and don't talk about him. Mikeal has broken mori add-ons and his base kit is so bad yet again ignored as well. No comments on this. Twins took like 2 years to change and just now we are about to test them (and honestly these changes don't look super promising).
Lastly, the base default perk pool for both sides is outdated and so bad that any new player has to buy new chapters to even have some decent perks. Playing with allready base core perks for any experienced player is also kinda waste. In the recent Q&A they even said they have no plans to add or much change current existing core of basic perks which is very depressing and doesn't make sence.
Also Buckle Up+For the People is very broken and annoying to deal with and developers seems to just close eyes on this and ignore it as well.
3) Playerbase is offten hostile and rude to each other
This is not on fault on any balance change or developers. This is just on humans and players themselfs. This is not exclusive problem to DbD but to all multiplayer games. Players just can't think of how the other person on the other side probably feels or they do it on purpose.
Survivovrs tbagging you for no reason, killers hitting you on hook and tunnel you like you killed their pet irl or something, Survivors tbagging fair killers who let everyone play the game just because they can and feel powerfull, Players using known exploits to gain even tiny bit of advantage (recent locker bugs with flashlights), people being rude and talk nonsence to each other post game or adding you to chat just to tell you how "waste of air" you are because they lost againts Trapper. Killers slugging you or 4 min whole team refuse to pick you up, your soloQ teammates making the most troll or stupid choices ever and ruin the whole match, Survivors who just bring the most annoying build on best map for it to make you feel bad, etc. The list is endless.
The only solution to this is to close all chats in game, try to ignore all tbaggers and mind your own bussiness but even that at least me personaly effects me and makes me feel bad and its sad people doing this to try to make you feel bad.
4) List of issues
- FOMO is bad and all cosmetics should be all year around present in the Store.
- Q&A is mostly pointless since devs don't answer most serious questions and when they do its unclear info and you get no date or no info on them.
- New player experience is horrible in this game.
- This game has free-to-play model monetization yet it is payed game.
- Game is too grindy.
- Bloodweb still takes ages to spend BP on.
- Many add-ons and offerings are worthless and waste of space.
- Many add-ons for many Killers are super strange and some lower tier add-ons are much better than higher tier add-ons.
- Some add-ons do nothing to help you or even hinder you.
- Each big update usualy breaks so many things in the game.
- Killswitch isn't the best: you need to close the game to active it and you can't level up banned killers.
- Report feedback needs improvements.
- Emblem system was much better than current super simple yet not skill at all "kill/escapes" thing.
- SoloQ is the worst role you can play.
- 3/4 man SWF groups are unbalanced and unfun to play againts.
- SoloQ needs more buffs.
- Flasbangs are overpowered since they have no counterplay and with Background player its too strong + the colision bug or whatever that is.
- Flashlight saves are too frustraiting and very powerfull. Any match with 2+ flashlights prob needs a Lightborn or you pray its bad Survivors in soloQ.
- Background player is overbuffed.
- For the People+Buckle up is ignored.
Thank you for reading. I would like to finish on note that there are many things that developers improved over the years and added many cool features or perks and powers. I think the game overall got better bit by bit each year but there is still floods of issues that preventing it from being the best it could be. I think for my sanity it is better to play the game less or in smaller doses and try to not care about outcome of any match as any role since this game isn't balanced for it and some players just want you to have bad time.
