Brazilian Legends Collection incoming?
I got to start by appreciating the work towards a very accurate lore for Renato and Thalita. Adriana is grounded for the time being (she’s a little problematic on small maps), but we love her as well. Anyway, having them in-game is crazy level of representativity to me in particular as they lived so near to where I’m located. I used to go kite-fighting with my uncle Eduardo when I was a little kid.
The Brazil Collection though… I mean, the outfits are cute, but Brazil is a country remarkably rich in folklore. We have all kinds of entities from beings that safeguard nature to cursed personas. It’d be nice if those stories were considered for a collection as it is a key piece of their roots and culture.
I’ll share today some of our most common knowledge entities (they vary a lot according to the region of the country) to perhaps inspire a cosmetic collection.
Side note: There’s a Netflix series called Invisible City. The plot basically features a reality in which these Brazilian entities live covertly among us. I love the carioca urban concept the art team designed for the outfits. The creator of the series is the same guy who directed the animated movie Rio (2011). You guys should check it out. Thank you for the great work!
- The Oni or Blight as Curupira – an entity known as a forest demon with fire hair and feet turned backwards. His whole thing is to protect nature from people who harm it. He tricks his victims, so they get lost in the woods, torment them with a scary whistling and charges at them from different directions. Since his feet are turned backwards you can’t really tell if he’s running at or away from you.
- The Dredge as Boitatá – an evil snake spirit who protect the forest from people that cause forest fires. It can turn into a log on fire to trick those people. If you look directly at his fire eyes you go mad and blind. I want a thick snake dredge so bad.
- Renato Lyra or Adam as Saci Pererê – a naughty entity that pranks people and summons whirlwinds. He hides objects, whistle loudly at night to scare travellers and performs other kinds of mischiefs. I'm craving for an urban concept similar to the Invisible City outfit.
- Thalita Lyra or Elodie as Iara – a human indigenous woman killed by a man and left for dead on a river. The waters resurrected her as a mermaid that allure evil man to the bottom of the river, drowning them. The Invisible City outfit is extremely gorgeous.
- The Hag or Mikaela Reid as Cuca – a crocodile witch that preys on naughty children. She’s iconic here in Brazil, there’s a lullaby and everything. If you go for the crocodile version I recommend The Hag, but if you go for the mystical butterfly lady witch from Invisible City than I recommend Mikaela Reid. (I mean you can’t really blend in with a crocodile face).
I’ll end sharing a Cuca and Iara (Camila) clip from Invisible City.
