Is Eruption like pre 6.1 DH or pre 6.1 NOED?

I'm just getting people's opinions here. My definitions here are:

Pre 6.1 DH: An unbalanced perk that was used more at high MMRs as it was too powerful at all levels.

Pre 6.1 NOED: A perk that was incredibly powerful at low levels but had usage and its power level drop off as MMR rose as it was much easier to combat with experience and, most importantly, coordination.

Personally, I think it's more like pre 6.1 NOED as the only viable counter to it is being in a SWF and calling out downs (the whole Empathy argument is impractical) with its effectiveness diminishing due to SWFs as MMR gets higher.

Personally, I'd like to see the gens affected get blocked instead of giving the incapacitated effect to even out its effectiveness across all levels and make it easier to gauge changes to its duration. Right now it does feel as second chance as pre 6.1 DH though and as if it's pushing a rise in gen rush perks but, without any data of sufficient size, we don't know if usage reduces as MMR goes up (like pre 6.1 NOED) or increases (like pre 6.1 DH).

Thoughts?

  • I would argue it is more like old Object of Obsession

old Object was a perk that was insanely unfun to go against, had little counterplay for the Killer and it also rewarded SWFs way more than it did solo players.

In the same way the only counterplay to avoiding eruption is be either in a SWF on commms or be unproductive until a teammate goes down/try to be productive and just eat the penalty. It's sort of the same conundrum as Killer's having to make a decision about object users; tunnel them out ASAP or just ignore them and focus on their teammates who are potentially being fed constant info

Maybe it's a bit of a stretch but idk I think they are similar

*Also I'm not saying Eruption is OP, just in need of tweaking.

  • It fits the description that you're giving to NOED, though it is worth noting that NOED itself doesn't fit that description even prior to 6.1. Even if you narrow NOED's three counters down to just cleansing all five totems before the last generator, even that doesn't actually require a SWF specifically if you bring Small Game. Add in the other two and you don't need coordination at all.

As for Eruption, that perk is destroyed by coordination and is slightly overtuned even against solo players, so a little shuffling of its effects is in order. I saw a great change idea a little while ago, where it affects everyone within a certain radius of the generator instead of just those working on it, but what it does is actually give them Hindered instead of Incapacitated for long enough to catch up and chase them. Something like that would be a good idea, focus more on the regression and have a nice bonus for anyone nearby, instead of having an effect powerful enough that solo players are hit way harder due to not being able to avoid it.

  • More like old DH than old NOED. Old NOED wasn’t overpowered, just cheap and the nerf mostly addressed that. Eruption is actually overpowered against solos.

  • well more of the fact that it took them 6 years to nerf Dead hard but it will take them like a month to nerf eruption and its not even killing the game

dead hard killed the game so many times and because this place is filled with survivor players that never touched a killer beside nurse or a killer that is just not extremely weak, anyone that complained about it was made fun of

and the perk is not strong, i don't buy it, even as a survivor in soloQ i avoid it 60% of the time by simply keeping my eyes on the hud but clearly that's too hard to do

I've had (multiple) games against killers using Eruption, where completing the final gen (in a decent survivor-sided 3-gen scenario) was literally impossible.

If used efficiently, Eruption can inflict 40s of relative regression, and is on a 30s cooldown.

look survivors don't wanna let go of the gens so they complain and BHVR nerfs that's the whole premise of this game, you complain about the thousand strong perks survivors have, and apparently nobody agrees

I would be the first to agree with nerfing OP survivor perks.

It's funny when you actually play both sides and can actually, objectively evaluate game balance fairly, because you end up getting called both a 'Killer Main' and a 'Survivor Main' depending on who is reading your posts... 🙄

That's kind of a straw man though. I do play both sides and I thought pre-6.1 Dead Hard was an abomination and complained about it multiple times. I also think Eruption is over-tuned right now against solo survivors and could use changes to correct its problems (eg blocking the gen instead of incapacitation). It is possible for more than one issue to exist at the same time.
