Anonymous mode maybe? So if there’s two Kate’s they show up as Kate 1 and Kate 2?
The numbers are seemingly random but it is anonymous mode. You could be the only Dwight and be Dwight Fairfield 06
Privacy mode as mentioned by others, I just came here to add a screenshot showing the option in menu and description shown in-game.
Pretty sure the number represents the order people arrived in the lobby. So if you are 01, then you were the first survivor who joined the lobby.
