An odd thing about the new Thanatophobia

In case you (somehow) haven't heard about it yet, this is how Thanatophobia will be changed with the upcomming hotfix patch:

"Each injured, dying, or hooked Survivor will now provide a 1/1.5/2% action speed penalty. If all four Survivors are either injured, dying, or hooked, Thanatophobia grants an additional 12% penalty to Survivors’ action speeds."

https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/kb/articles/344

With that out of the way, there is one thing that I noticed that I hope we could get some clarification on: the Perk now actively states an action speed debuff is applied per non healthy Survivor.

But what exactly does this mean?

Right now Thanatophobia only provides a speed penalty to repairing, cleansing and sabotaging actions - this however is specifically stated in the Perks description. The new Thanatophobia doesn't say anything about specific actions anymore though - so in theory, Survivors should receive the new Thanatophobia slowdown for every (progress bar) action they take, which would include actions such as healing, exit gate opening, chest searching, mending or blessing as well.

If true, I think that's an interesting compensation for the otherwise pretty heavy nerf the Perk got. It might however keep Plague and Legion pretty oppressive.

EDIT:

Mandy answered this question in a different post about this. It is only a numerical change, it will keep affecting only the 3 actions that were listed in the old Thana.

So no, it's just a flat out nerf with no compensation buffs in the process :/

Exactly, like this is very important! I really really wish it was for all actions.

All actions except mending at least. Mending is already quite a pain, unless they will add another way of getting rid of deepwounds that isnt mending.

  • It's a 60% nerf, on top of retracting the 10% buff it got (because nobody was using it).

It also turns off the +12% bonus the second one survivor dies, so it's more "punish the killer for doing well and reward the survivors for doing poorly" re-design choices, like new Corrupt Intervention or new Ruin.

Even if it DID apply to EVERY action, a max of 6% instead of 20% is still such an awful nerf that nobody but Plague and maybe Legion will ever get any use out of it.

  • Why thanatophobia get nerfed ?

    Who know ?

  • Sadly, with the loss of the 12% when you kill the first survivor it's not even a good perk for Legion or Plague. It's not like it was meta before!

  • Honestly if it affected everything with a progress bar (and lingered after you killed a survivor), I would actually tolerate the nerf/rebalance they did.

  • Thana was already a decently balanced perk. It has dimishing returns or a self limiting factor in that each sacrificed survivor reduces your potential slowdown.

It just didn't need the 0.5% buff, that did more psychological harm than anything.
