There Should be an FOV Slider, No Excuses
The Reasoning
- Due to the confirmation that there will be a new mechanic for players that are hard of hearing in lieu of Spine Chill's current changes, this means that there is a precedent set for making the game more accessible to players with other conditions over time.
- In this vein, if there are going to be more accessibility options over time, then it is time to give better accessibility to those who have vision problems, too.
- Currently, there are no real gameplay benefits to using any Perk that affects the field of view of the game. This is because it is a negligible aspect of gameplay that only serves to restrict the base functionality of the game.
- The effects of Shadowborn and Monitor & Abuse on field of view are typically non-factors in deciding to use those perks. The reason that people will run those perks is because the game just looks a lot better to them, or for some players, it makes the game far more tolerable to play.
- Because of this, Shadowborn is often seen as one of the worst perks in the game due to the fact it genuinely does not benefit players most of the time and there is no inherent value to the Perk.
- Using Shadowborn, as well as Monitor for the Field of View, are negligible and a complete waste of Perk slots.
The Changes
Universal Changes
- There is a new Field of View slider for Dead by Daylight.
- This slider defaults to 0, which is the current default Killer field of view, and limits itself at 15 degrees, which are the current effects of Shadowborn.
Perk Changes
Shadowborn
- Perk effects reworked.
- For the first 20/25/30 seconds of the Trial, you are granted the Undetectable status effect until you injure a Survivor.
- Each time you hook a Survivor, you gain 15 seconds of the Undetectable status effect.
The effects of this perk work more in line with the character of The Wraith, who is mostly known to use stealth when lurking around for his prey. Additionally, this rewards Killers who are very proactive by giving them an effect that greatly benefits them for their efforts.
Monitor & Abuse
- Field of View effects removed.
- New effect - Upon starting a chase with a Survivor, you are granted a 5% Haste status effect for 3/4/5 seconds. This effect has a cooldown of 15 seconds after leaving chase.
Due to the field of view effects of Monitor & Abuse being really jarring for many players using it, especially when repeatedly getting into chase, the effect has been changed to allow Killers to potentially close the distance on the Survivor early on within the chase and get that hit in.
These changes make it so that there is more Perk variety and the effects of both perks make them much more usable for the foreseeable future.
