Calm Spirit "Buff" is a nerf; here is why and some ideas to make it "worth" a perk slot
In case someone doesn't know what I am talking about:
- In addition to Calm Spirit’s current effects, you can now open chests and cleanse and bless totems silently, albeit at 40/35/30% reduced speed.
Reducing the speed of actions just because they are silent is not a good thing. Here are some scenarios where this perk will be worse than just not running it:
When you cleanse a Hex perk you don't want to do it silently, you want to do it fast. Getting rid of Devour Hope a few seconds earlier rather than later can be deciding if one of your teammates or even you get instantly downed and mori'd.
If the killer is checking a Hex they will look if there is nobody on the Totem. It is really rare that I just go by sound.
Setting Hex totems aside (probably the worst use case of this perk):
- the sound that happens after you bless a totem (the loud bang) still happens and the totem humms, so even if you do it silently next to the killer the killer will still hear it; same goes for breaking a Hex
- breaking a totem will still play the breaking totem sound at the end
- the survivor still breathes heavily when breaking/blessing a totem so it isnt actually silent
- opening a chest makes a loud squeaking noise when you open it so it is not silent
Here are my buff ideas:
- remove the penalty to speed. you want to do these things fast so you can do gens/get chased/ do them before the killer sees you
- make the survivor and the entire animation actually silent (no heavy breathing, no breaking sound of the totem, no squeaking of the chest) THIS SHOULD NOT APPLY TO THE LOUD NOISE THAT HAPPENS AFTER YOU BLESSED A TOTEM OR BREAK A HEX, imo that would be really REALLY bad and frustrating for killers
- vaulting a window or entering/exiting a locker while not sprinting/holding shift is also completely silent. That way this perk becomes a stealth perk that gives you stealth in a lot of situations where stealth normally is not required but it can be nice to have
to elaborate on 3.: i have while playing killer caught a lot of survivors going into lockers not because i saw them but because i heard the squeaking of the door or the very quiet sound that happens when the door closes.
While playing spirit I have also caught survivors countless of times slow vaulting a window in order to confuse me.
With these buffs/changes this perk becomes an actual decent stealth perk that isn't just a negative 1 perk when equipped.
