Does Anyone Else Hate Blood Debt/Heroic Virtue?
If there are any two challenges, even amongst the unique ones, that I absolutely hate doing, it is Blood Debt and Heroic Virtue. They are nearly impossible to do if you are playing Solo. For those who do not know:
Blood Debt: Unhook a survivor who has unhooked you earlier X times.
Heroic Virtue: Stay in the match while other survivors leave.
Here is my problem with why these absolutely suck if you are playing solo.
Blood Debt:
First, it encourages bad gameplay, because you as the survivor need to make sure you go down first. Since it is only "Unhook a survivor who unhooked you", if you unhook them and they unhook you after, it does not count. So anytime anyone besides you goes down, you are losing progress. So to maximize this, you need to go down first. Now, normally, I would just let this happen normally, but the problem is if you are good at survivor, a lot of killers will just abandon chases with you to look for easier targets. So if I am not playing with a team of survivors who are all around my skill level in chase, killers will veer off. So intentionally going down is encouraged.
Second, it encourages bad gameplay because when that person goes down, you drop everything to make sure you get the unhook. And if you can't communicate to your team that you need to save them, that could mean several survivors all run to the hook because you unhooking at that moment wouldn't have made sense if not for the challenge.
Overall, even with rushing unhooks, I get Blood Debt progress in about 40% of the games I play (assuming I don't sabotage the team by intentionally going down first), meaning for the challenges, when tend to be 4-5 times, it takes 10-13 games. No killer challenge has taken me 13 games.
Heroic Virtue: Oh boy. This is even worse. There is one challenge that asks you to do this 9 times. First, if the game were balanced like BHVR wants (I know it's not, but for math), you would only escape 50% of games. So it should take 18 games to get 9 escapes of any kind. Then, there would be a 50% chance of you being the one to escape last, so it would take 36 games to get this challenge. Assuming actively putting in effort increased your chances by 50%, it would take 27 games. Now, in reality most of the time you escape, it is going to be 3-4 people escaping, and most of the times you die, only 1 person escapes, so that doesn't quite work out, but if you cannot communicate with your team, just the number of people who stand at the gate and refuse to go through until the killer hits them is staggering. If you are the one who gets hit first, you don't get challenge progress. Solo groups will literally let a teammate die instead of leaving to let them get hatch. The raw issue of communicating that you need your team to leave makes it so many games that COULD progress this achievement don't.
But with a SWF, you just tell them to go and they do.
Since I am almost exclusively solo, the Heroic Virtue 9 challenge literally took me between 20-25 games. Multiple days of attempts. No killer challenge has ever taken me 10+ attempts, let alone 20+.
Unrelated, because this is much more "Play naturally", but the high numbers in "Do Gen" challenges are tedious too. 15 gens? If you average 3 Gens, which is a huge number, that is 5 games. Overall, survivor challenges seem to just be a slog, filled with 'chore' challenges that are just a lot of play the game normally over and over, with the exception of the two above, which seems to be "Be in a SWF".
