Insidious With a Dash of Dark Devotion
Inspired by a prior thread that suggested a change to Insidious.
To me the premise of Insidious is you can give yourself Undetectable basically at will. The problem is this is primarily used for camping, since it only works while standing still. This is my idea to try and fix the latter without losing the former:
After standing still for 4 seconds, Insidious activates. While Insidious is active:
- Your Terror Radius remains fixed in the location Insidious activated.
- You gain the Undetectable Status Effect.
- These effects persist for 20/25/30 seconds after leaving your own Terror Radius.
- Insidious deactivates once the Undetectable Status Effect granted by it ends.
Don't sweat the exact numbers too much. I'm just using the max activation time of Insidious and Dark Devotion's Undetectable times as a reference.
In short, you activate Insidious like you always do. Once it's active, much like Dark Devotion attaches your Terror Radius to your Obsession, your Terror Radius is attached to where you were standing. While you, yourself, become Undetectable. This Undetectability persists while you are within your Terror Radius, and will last a short while after leaving. I'm pondering adding a "you hear your own Terror Radius" to the effect so you know when it kicks in/is going to fade.
There could be some Mindgame potential here. Start an approach, activate Insidious, change the direction of that approach. Or while in chase, activate Insidious and continue looping. On multi-floor maps you can drop it in one floor and move to the other with no one the wiser. More importantly, however, this effect discourages camping since you don't get the full stealth value without actually moving away from where you started Insidious's effect and using it to camp a hook will just leave everyone thinking you're close by (though being Undetectable within your own Terror Radius may allow for that nonetheless depending on the map)
Given the effects, I'm not sure if the activation time should be longer (it was 6/4/3 way back when according to the DBD wiki) or if the Undetectable after leaving your Terror Radius should be shorter or longer. Nor am I sure if, like Dark Devotion, the dropped Terror Radius shouldn't be affected by things like Distressing or Monitor and Abuse.
