Some improvements must be made to new player experience/matchmaking
Hello,
I am blatantly a newer player with ~30 hours played, primarily survivor play, and at this point I think I am ready to give some basic feedback. This game needs to improve new player experience badly. At this point in the game's lifecycle, joining in as a newbie is at best intimidating, at worst absolutely impossible.
Skill ceiling of this game is extremely high, and floor is extremely low. Doing well even somewhat gets rewarded with getting wrecked next game by a much more experienced player or team. There's very little proper suggestions on how to play, what the goals are, and how to get away from killers, nothing teaches you how to loop properly, nothing teaches you how to find pallets/vault spots, there's no real info on how killers do their chasing, this game relies entirely on forcing people to go out and read guides, which often just go "just play killer/survivor so you understand"... It's generally not obvious at all.
Killers AT THEIR BASE SKILL AND PERKS have way easier time accomplishing objectives than players. Ideally there should be some balancing done around the starter characters/killers, just to have the game be slightly more reasonably balanced at all tiers of play and not just what I presume to be the top.
Leveling up/gearing up in this game at this point is an insurmountable task. To even get all of the teachable perks for one character once I had to play 40+ games, considering most top tier builds I found have you get 3-4 perks from other characters, at absolute minimum to get a competitive build you need to level up 3-4 characters, that's potentially 200+ games for one build, ONE. And that's WITH having to buy those characters, meanwhile one starting character is usually not strong enough to really handle anything on their own, since there's no real synergy between most perks on any base character, and only half a dozen survivors have any real mobility perks, which by itself is a big issue.
Price/cost of the game is a little high. This is a 5y/o game, there's really no reason to make people pay 120-150$ to get all of the content, which becomes mandatory once you actually look into getting perks to be competitive. Reasonably the last 2-3 content packs should be full price, rest should be deeply discounted, and base game should be next to free.
As it stands currently, barrier of entry for this game is far too high and there's almost a guarantee that the population of this game is dwindling rather than going up with these issues present, which just results in even worse experience for new players, since there's fewer new players to match against, and instead I'm forced to play against folks with a sensible build while I am still running around on base perks 30 hours into the game.
